Hi there,

I own a 1999 LS 400 Celsior (jap import) and like many on this forum, the air suspension shock absorbers are starting to leak.
The replacement cost (part + labour) for air shock absorbers is 960gbp per shock.
I've read you can actually replace them with standard (spring) absorbers at a much lower cost.
Has anyone done this? Does the car ride fine afterwards? How much did this cost?
Does anyone know of a good garage in london for repairs on our beloved celsior japanese imports.
Thanks a lot,

Gasp

Hello and welcome to the LOC.
I also have a Toyota Celsior mine is a 1994 model but is on standard spring suspension instead of air.
They can be converted to springs and the whole kit should be less than £1000.00.
Cannot comment on the ride difference as never experience air suspension v springs but mine sits on 17" rins with low profile tyres and is quite hard but handles well.
If you want to maintain the ride quality go for standard springs with adjustable dampers so you can fine tune to your preference.
There are only a handful of Celsiors in the UK and a lot have been rebadged as Lexus models but a lot were imported into Australia where there are some dedicated owners clubs.
If you are not doing the job yourself any decent independent garage should be able to do the conversion for you.

Below is a link explaining the proceedure.
