Certain imported vehicles may be permitted to display number plates with smaller characters. This is really good news as I was worried that i had illegal plates.
Read this in SECTION 5
http://www.dvla.gov.uk/vehicles/regmarks/r...ents.htm#importAlso mentions that if you car cannot diplay the full size number plate in the bumper or tailgate moldings then you are permitted to have smaller fonts by law.

Does that make my plate legal as I could not possibly fit a regulating late on the front bumper ?

yes.. your rear plate is legal even though it is smaller than standard.. and uses motorcycle plate fonts. This is only because your bumper cannot fit the UK standard.
The front is illegal though as stick on one apparently are not classed as a permanently fixed plate.
