I have an 2003 IS 300 sports edition and want to add an amp and subwoofer to the existing Lexus stereo, is this possible? I was told that it can't be done without re-wiring the whole car and maybe even re-placing all the speakers and head unit. I want to upgrade, but I'm not jazzed about that proposition. Any thoughts or suggestions? Has anyone had a similar experience?

Hi and welcome to the club...
Quite a few members have Sub's in their IS's... so hopefully they will be along soon with various different options..
The IS stereo/amp does not have RCA out connections, so it would not be a straight forward job, and probably the easiest way is to use a crossover from the rear speaker connections into your sub amp...

adding a crossover to the output of amp is not a good idea you will affect the impedance loading to the amp and possibly damage it
check this out tells you how to add rca's

your best bet woudl be replacing the head unit with ones that have the appropriate RCA outs

well i personally recomend is a head unit my alpine and then get an oroin 600d amp and a 10inch h2 sub that would do the trick nicely as for mids you could go for oroin but it depend's how much cash u gotta spend

That's the trouble with listening to friends...
To my knowledge there is no such thing supplied by Lexus for the IS200.
Sorry fella.

you could use the feed to the rear speakers connected it to a alpine balancing thing which gives 2 phono's and connect them to the amp
then wire in an power from the battery and the remote wire went to somewhere under the steering wheel or aroung the back of the ignition barrel

i dont know exacly how it was done all i know is it works pretty well
