Isopropyl alcohol. It doesn't damage the paintwork but it's worth giving it a good coat of wax after you've done it as it will break the exisiting down.

It's not that strong so you'll need plenty on the cloth and give it a good rub. It leaves a white mark so give it a wipe with a dry cloth when you're finished before it dries fully.

iso alcohol does work well - carefull not to splash it everywhere! but the best i have found to remove tar and bugs is turtle wax bug and tar remover - black bottle with horrid lime green sticker on it!

spray it on, leave for 10 mins, wipe off - its that easy! biggrin.gif

By any chance that wouldn't be

Mequiars Gold Class Bug And Tar Remover

would it

Petrol is by far the best and cheapest way to remove tar.
you can also use standard thinners but be very careful !!

Franmac, are you serious? I would'nt let thinners anywhere near my paintork ohmy.gif

Surely it would ruin the paint?
