Since I bought my IS200 there has been a rattling noise coming from the back brakes, I have now had the brake pads replaced using original Lexus brake pads but the rattle is even worse.

On inspection it is quite obvious that the retaining pins that pass threw the holes in the Calliper \ pads appear to be to thin as you can get hold of the pads and move them about recreating the noise.

Any ideas what’s gone wrong here and what do I need to do to sort this out?

Are the retaining pins aftermarket?
they should fit snugly......fit genuine ones,coat with copper grease as with shims!!!

Make sure the split pins are in properly.

Is the shielding plate bent(can happen)

Pins dont come into contact with pads,they run across the top
and you should only apply a very thin coat to help locate/aid
fitting/removal,Also stops seizure

Obviously Bazza has NEVER done pads before then!!!!!

I've had my IS200 for a few months now (on a 'V' plate), I have experienced the rattling noise from the back end as well, it took me a while to conclude that the noise was from the brakes. I removed/replaced the pads and bled the brakes, this cured the problem for a few hours, so I am led to believe that there is a fault with the drivers side rear brake cylinder (as the rattle is on one side only), when I get chance I shall drop in to the local dealer and hopefully get the problem sorted via the RAC warranty that I had with the car. Recently had new rear pads as the old ones were shot to bits due to seized up calipers both sides. Had the calipers serviced and appear to be working fine now, but since then I've noticed a rattling (almost like something loose) on one side over uneven road. This rattle disappears under braking. Sounds like the same problem. Any ideas anyone?

There is an anti-rattle plate fits on the pins which stop any rattle. If it isn't fitted or has lost it's tension then the pads will rattle. Check to see it touches the pads and that pressure is needed to get the pins to go through them. The pads rattling won't really do much harm, at least it shows your pads are moving allright and aren't siezed

I think he may of sorted this by now as the thread is almost 2 yrs old.
