ok, my IS200 is due in for service shortly, and Lexus Norfolk (recently taken over by Inchcape car group) are saying that since the takeover, i will have to pay for the insurance on a courtesy car, and that will have to be on MY insurance.
Is this right, or should i have a word with Lexus GB?

It is right and one of the reasons why I never have one. Too much hassle to get insurance - some Insurance companies won't insure them (because the value of the demonstrator is more than your car) and others may charge you.
When I had a demonstrator I have to get cover. The cover note only just turned up in time and it cost me £18 for 24 hours.

Some dealers will let you off the £10 to insure you on their car for the day some won't. it just depends. They are within their right to charge you with this though.
what they're saying is that they won't insure me on any of their cars, and i will have to put it through my own insurance. This wasn't the case when i bought the car though, and i was told then that a courtesy car would be free for the day (this was before the dealership got taken over).
Anyone know any dealers in east anglia that will give me a courtesy car for free?

Lexus Chester charge an "optional" £50 for a courtesy car per day, if you decline to pay then they warn you of the £500 excess that you are liable for !!! Seems like daylight robbery if you ask me...
What I try to do is drop my car off and go for a wander around Cheshire Oaks and spend £50 on something else !!!

£50
They are having a laugh!
You can use your own insurance for a day, won't be anywhere near that price.

Right, it's been a while since i posted here, but my IS is going into the dealer for it's shock absorbers to be changed under warranty, and i'm gettingit's 50k service done while it's there, and i asked about the courtesy car.................
It's a 53 plate 200 sport, worth 21.5k, they want comprehensive insurance for it for the day, and it had to be through my insurance.
So i got the details of it, phoned my insurance company to renew my insurance for another year, and asked them about the courtesy car, they said it wasn't a problem, and it would cost me £7.00 for the day!

extorsion or what!
thought it was a result actually, and am very chuffed!

Last year when I got my 60K service done I had a 53 plate is200 SE as a loan while I waited
I had to insure it myself and I phoned Direct Line up and they covered the car for 2 days at no extra cost to me fully comp, and my car is a 99 Is200 se.

Lexus Leeds ask me to put it on my insurance when it is in for a service, no extra cost from Tesco.
When the salesman has lent me his for the day as mine has had something that needed to be sorted no charge.
I think some of them are taking the P***

I am insured through Lexus and the policy states that any car loaned while mine is being serviced or repaired is covered under that policy. It was a lot cheaper than my last policy with Zurich / Eagle Star who I had been with since they were Preferred Direct. The only downside is that European cover is limited to 30 days where the Eagle Star had no limit.

I've just picked up my X plate is200se, after my 3ok service. lexus Newcastle provided me with a 53plated 200 sport courtesy car at no charge.
My insurance company ( Direct Line ) covered me fully comp for 24hrs no extra cost
Only one disappointing moment I've just spent £*** on having a new rear spoiler fitted got it back home and the rear brake light doesn't work

When I picked up my car from Lexus Guildford (Inchcape) we discussed courtesy cars and I stated that it was hassle to convert the insurance for the day and that I would only be using the car to drive 5 miles to work and then 5 miles to collect the car.
I considered their offer of a 'lift' both ways to be far less hassle.
I was assured that the courtesy car was insured and there was no action to take on my part apart from ensuring that sufficient notice was given.

At Lexus Reading the courtesy cars are free and come insured, although with a £500 excess.

I thought I would give you my point of view as a dealer.
Our insurers are making life ever harder for us with ever increasing premiums and excesses. As a responsible fleet operator, I need to know where my cars are at all times, as much for my own good but also to ensure that I am not prosecuted/fined if a customer gets caught speeding or picks up a parking ticket.
I could cover the insurance when you take a courtesy car away but if something happened, I am sure you would not want to pay the excess involved (very high compared to a domestic excess). Take the point of transferring your own insurance; most insurance companies will transfer your policy, most will charge, very few don’t but the most important point has yet not been discussed. Have you ever been waiting to speak to the Service Advisor when he is on the phone trying to arrange the cover for the guy in front of you? I have seen many customers frustrated by this, especially now when more and more call centers are moving abroad. It is not satisfactory for you just to say to us ‘it is covered’, we need it in writing from your insurance company.
I have solved all of these problems with a very clever bit of software. It tracks when you take the car and when you return it and arranges fully comprehensive insurance with a sensible excess in seconds. There is a small charge for this, £10, but at this stage everyone is happy. You get fast, efficient service and I have my car properly insured! For those who have a big objection to paying the £10, I have a collection and delivery service and if you are just in for a service, there are worse places to spend a couple of hours than in my showroom

my past local dealer ( plymouth) never charged me for a courtesy car, and often Chris would lend me his own car. The dealership owner changed a while ago but as far as i know the policy is the same, but saying that even if i was charged £10 i wouldnt mind, cheaper than a hire car for the day or for adding it as comp on my insurance.

My local dealer has never charged me for a courtesy car either.
When the car was in with the stereo problems for over a week, the service manager lent me his company car (okay it was a Pug diesel) with no problems?

That's great as long as you are happy but............
What position would you be in if you ran it off the road though? Do you know if you were insured, do you know what the excess was?
As a professional dealer, I take great care to ensure thing are done by the book and everyone knows where they stand.
All of my loan cars are Lexus and only a few months old. I have even fitted Road Angels to them for your convenience

My Lexus LS400 98(which was purchased from Lexus Oxford) is going in for a few bits in Feb.
I enquired about the RX as a Loan car while my car was in for the repair and without any hesitation they said it was no problem.
All they need to do is give me the RX No. Plate couple of days earlier so I can get it covered under my existing insurance.
As insurance companies know that you wouldn't be driving both cars at the same time they don’t usually have a problem. (Having comprehensive insurance helps)
Thank you, Lexus Oxford for sorting this out.
Looking forward to the drive in the RX as it looks the Biz. (will comment once had the drive)
