Mine was doing that, it was the pads. Changed them and it stopped.

Could be pads low
Rear brake lamp bulb blown

or

low brake fluid

The GS doesn't have a low pad sensor. Check you fluild level

I put Mintex pads all round, not performance ones just OE replacements. About £70 all in for 4 wheels! msn-wink.gif

Brake warning light on a Mk1 GS300 is certainly the brake fluid level.
The level in the resevoir is very deceptive and you need to top up carefully then depress brake pedal a few times then finish topping up.
This worked for me but I did have brake sytem checked out incase there was any fluid leaks and all was ok.

are the lexus brake pads just toyota ones?

i am thinking about just ordering the pads from my local toyota garage instead of travelling to belfast to order.

also are they easily fitted?

cheers

If you do drive to Belfast, Lexus will give the car to Toyota anyway, as they both use the Toyota workshop.

All parts are Toyota. They make the car. If the pads are not used in the UK by a Toyota model then you will have to pay Lexus prices.

Check your brake lights when it comes on.

I've been having similar bother, off-and-on with my MK1 Gs. It is down (on mine anyway) to a dodgy contact with the bulb/holder. When the light (red, with exclamation mark) comes on, it is imediately accompanied by my o/s brake lamp not coming on. I had pads replaced thinking it was similar problem.

As soon as I remove rear lens to check, bulb comes on and warning light goes out. I've tried electronic contact cleaner, emery paper around bulb contacts, all sorts. Damn thing comes on first time I drive off and touch the brakes!

Haven't tried replacing bulb yet, but that is next on agenda at weekend.

Same problem with mine but it's intermittent, so probably a dodgy bulb but keep forgetting to change it. Plusi f I stop, switch off and restart the problem goes away. I'm assuming that once it registers a fault, it stays on even if the bulb starts working
