Starting dismantling my lamps this evening , with a view to getting them dark chromed. The first one was a pig to do , I wasn't using enuf heat , being afraid of doing harm.
Now what d'you recommend to remove the old glue (or should that be industrial strenght Cement!)

I've been using my Heat Gun , I was wondering if Turps or White Spirits would do .

Use your heat gun to warm the glue back up, and re-use it to stick the lense back in.
Be sure to seal them a bit better with sicaflex or something similar to keep them from misting up.

I reheated the same glue and used it to seal the light clusters. I never needed to use any additional glue type substance and they don't mist. Lucky, I guess.

yep, hairdryer, it helps if you get someone to do the heating up whilst you do the pulling apart.
i then used the hairdryer again to get as much of the putty glue stuff off as possible.
3M Adhesive cleaner is good.
then to seal up again, reheat the unit, apply a bead of silicone sealent then push it all togther and leave to set..
