I have a 1999 GS300 SE (Mk2) - which has a 9000 mile service interval.
Does anyone know the Lexus-recommended labour components of the various services - 9, 18, 27, ..., 63, 72, 81, .... etc.
The reason I ask is that (as I understand it from my service book) the 72k service should be a pretty small one - but I have been quoted a longer service time (hence higher labour charge) than earlier services (even including the one that included changing the spark plugs, at 63k).
I have been quoted 3 hours for the basic 72k service. Does that sound right?
Is there anything special done at the 72k service that might make it expensive?

Ask them to tell you what they will be doing.
They may be replacing brake fluid, engine coolant, diff. oil etc.

They did say they would replace either the gearbox or differential oil (I can't remember which

) - is that a big job? Is it something that should be done at 72k?

Do you have your service book? Everything should be listed there.
I don't think Lexus specify the gearbox oil is ever replaced in the UK, only inspected and topped up.

Yes I do have the service book - and I can't see any mention of anything time-consuming at 72k. As you say, there is no mention of ever changing the gearbox oil.

I think there are some things listed like coolant every 2 years or brake fluid every 3 years etc.
I would get a quote from another dealer to compare.

Had the 63k service done at Lexus Hatfield on my GS Mk2. It's a small service plus replacement of the plugs and cambelt. The 72k service should include coolant and transmission oil changes.

I believe the 3 hours I have been quoted includes changing the transmission oil (but not the coolant) - which implies to me that they are charging about 1.5hrs for the small service, plus 1.5hrs for the transmission oil change. Is it that long a job?

What about brake fluid? They shouldn't be changing the transmission fluid, maybe the diff oil.

According to my service book (remember my car is the 1999 model, with the 9000 mile service interval) the transmission oil/fluid is changed every 36,000 miles. Brake fluid is every 2 years. Differential oil is every 27,000.

So they should do transmission oil and brake fluid then.
Looking at US specs out of warranty time to replace transmission oil is 1 hour.
Brake bleeding for both systems is around 1:15.
Don't know if UK dealers use the same sort of times. Transmission oil time seems high, on it's own maybe 1 hour but you would normally start to drain the oil and do something else instead of waiting so the actual time is really only filling up and checking.
