  1. Hi can anyone let me know how long the warranty last for on wheels. Mine are starting to pit. Does mileage come in to it Thanks My 97 GS had three sets of wheels under warrenty, and I've had them refurbed too. A friends just had the wheels on his new L200 pick up replaced due to corrsion. I think it's a problem with most Jap cars, although the 01 Mercedes I was working on yesterday had most of the laquer missing
  2. My experience with products like radseal is they might stop a small leak, but they do a good job of clogging up the heater.
  3. Now that you've done this isn't much help BUT I had the same problem, foreman in the local Lexus dealers is a friend and lent me the tool. It bolts to the front pully, and rests on top of the inner wing on the drivers side, to hold the crank. I then sat on the floor and pushed my Snap on knuckle bar with my feet. BIG BANG and I undid it the rest of the way with my fingers. i was warned DO NOT torque it up, just tighten it by hand. I've got pictures and dimensions of the tools if anyone needs them.
  4. I decided about six weeks ago I'm getting a new one, now I've finally got my GS back I need to sell it hopefully before I get the new one. Dealer doesn't really want it due to the age. It's an Oct. 97 R reg. GS 300 Legato with a genuine documented 26,000 miles. Leather interior and boot spoiler. New cam belt last year. I've no idea where the best place to advertise it is ,e bay doesn't seem the place, possibly auto trader. Any advise would be apreciated, as I'd rather it go to a good home than the dealer steal it and trade it out.
  5. The compressor won't work if the pressure is below a certain level, you can "hot wire" the compressor to make it work, but it's not a good idea. When you get it regassed if they do the job properly they should let it sit for about 15 / 20 minutes with a vacuum to ensure there are no leaks. Some places will put a dye in so if it does leak you know where. It could be some of the O rings dried out if the AC wasn't used, AC should be run for a minimum of ten minutes a week to lubricate everything.
  6. Well they just brought it back again and took it away. Primer overspray all over the rear door shut
  7. An MOT and some road tax I'm thinking about a new one, trouble is my R reg GS has a genuine 26,000 miles on it and I won't get FA trading it for a new one.
  8. Strangely the wife's hidden the keys to my gun cabinet. When I get it back and it's 100% as they promised, I'm going to write a letter to them and the insurance company that are paying for it all. If nothing else it should cause them to have to explain to the insurance company why they had to rent a car for over two months for me.
  9. I was only a month out They wanted to return the car Monday of last week, so I asked what they have done in the three weeks it's been in the body shop, painted the side of the car and refurbished the wheel.I explained it was to have a new wheel and tyre acording to the assesor. At this point lookers start getting agressive and tell me there is nothing wrong wirth the wheel, that's because it's not the wheel that was on the car. I finally get the car back this afternon, new wheel and tyre ( tyre fitted incorrectly ) a scuff on the front wing and paint sagging on both doors on the near side, and the damaged wheel centre back on the new wheel. Yes it has gone back. :tsktsk:
  10. Tony if it's normal on that model , obviously the Lexus dealer can demonstrate it on another car. I'm assuming the pump is electric so as you turn on the ignition before starting the engine does it make the noise as it purges the system ?
  11. The car was finally taken away this morning by Lookers for a geometry check. The Lexus aproved body shop don't have a truck big enough so they drove it away on trade plates ( I've SORN'd it ). Why do I have a bad feeling about it ? I refused to sign authority to start work imediately, because I want to know exactly what they are going to do. Five weeks so far, I wonder how much the are paying for the POS Passat rental car I've put 2000 miles on ?
  12. I know this is a long shot but just before the battery died on my Mk1 the alarm kept going off, wonder if it thinks someone is trying to disconect the battery ?
  13. They all do that sir :winky: so does my brothers Soarer, worrying isn't it, I'd prefer to see 1100 rpm on a stone cold engine especially when you put it into gear.
  14. got a phone call yesterday, the rental company want the car back :tsktsk: phone Direct Line ( could be Direct Lies ), it would seem as i refused their "approved repairer " it's all my fault. After explaining the situation ( almost calmly ) they admitted they are over 3 weeks late dealing with quotes from non aproved repairers. As the tax expired on Dec 31st the GS is now back on the drive and SORN and I'm keeping the Passat, I just can't believe how difficult they are trying to make it.
  15. Sounds like a classic case of HT leads but you changed them. If you ease off the throttle under acceleration does it stop ? I'm wondering about an injector, have you tried some injector cleaner ?
  16. Well it's Christmas eve and my cars still sitting outside, fortunately I have a 57 reg VW Passat diesel from the insurance company. I could get used to the fuel consumption, which is just as well as I'll probably have it until mid January.
  17. I always thought the Mk11 looked too Mercedes, but at the end of the day it's a Lexus so in my book it must be good.
  18. I had thought of that, don't really want it written off as it a genuine car with only 26000 from new and an almost complete service history. I got a call from Direct line today who insure the person who hit me, they want it repaired by their "aproved" repairer, some company in Basildon I've never heard of. Phoned a few friends in the body trade and they said they wouldn't use them. Good enough for me, so I took it to Lookers body shop in Laindon, place is full of Toyotas and Lexus. They are contacting Direct line and arrangeing it alll for me. I get a loan car in the morning from Enterprise, they offered me an Omega or BMW 3 series, told them I want a Mondeo or Focus, so I'll see what happens in the morning.
  19. I drove the car this morning and the steering wheel is off centre, stop get out and walk back behind the car, NS rear whhel is toeing in a lot, so the car's crabbing :tsktsk: Took it to Supreme's in Basildon as I'm told they do a good job, they think about £2200 with out knowing the exact prices of parts. It's definately an insurance job, and I can't drive it so i guess I'll have a lovely Corsa or Punto loan car over Christmas B) Went to Lexus Southend £37 for the little plastic trim inside the wheel arch, rear door moulding ( painted ) £357,rear arm £95 and a wheel rim £292, plus a wheel centre geometry check and a tyre.
  20. Actually I find the seats excellent. The Alfa seat were ok, nice, bit thin, leather too but for me the Lexus is more comfy. The seats in mine look like zero miles ones, I can't belive it. I'm a big fuker tho, 6'4" and 17 stone... About the same size as me then, prhaps a few more pies though I have problems with the lumbar support on the drivers seat, just can't get it right. Or if I do Deb drives the car moves everything and I can't get it back for weeks.
  21. About 11am today I heard an odd sort of breaking plastic noise outside, didn't give it much thought. A few minutes later a lady from across the road knocks on the door A girl has driven into your car grab camera and go outside Seems she dropped her phone while turning the corner :tsktsk: got her arm stucj=k in the steering wheel and hit my car. At least she's insured, but daddy wants to pay for it so she can get insured again next year. 17 and she got a baby in the car as well, I wonder if she has a clue how that happened either ? Don't think it's actually bent any bodywork on mine, but it snapped the metal valve off in the wheel, guess tomorrow morning I'll be getting a few estimates.
  22. Mine has the headlamp washers & no sunroof. Do you find the seats less comfortable than you thought they would be ?
  23. I've got the last of the Mk1 Legato's on an R plate , from what I understand they are the basic model and should have cloth seats. Mine has leather and a boot spoiler installed from new by the dealership, aparently to make them more saleable. No trip computer or sat nav or seat memory. No heated seats either. Mine only had 16k on it when I bought it a few years ago, it's still low at 26k, still got the original brake pads,
