  1. Excellent write-up! I guarantee most garages now would just suck their teeth and say 'needs a new starter mate' and proceed to charge you 2 hours labour on top of the cost of a complete unit! Probably quite true. Although to be fair, the starter (on the mk1 anyway) is a c*nt to get to. Even once you've managed to get to the two bolts and undo them, you still have to get the thing out round all the pipes and wiring, Lots of cursing ensues :tsktsk: Yup!! Sounds just like my Supra and all the Celicas before that too. Right angled joints and seven fingers seem to be a mandatory requirement for any toyota engine bay. Plus they like putting in the sneaky little sharp edge just right to catch your fingers too!! :D Thanks for the advice. Any ideas as to where I could buy one cheap (not lexus of course). Thanks
  2. Hi All, I have a MK2 GS300 with 175k and a 2000 model and have had a reoccuring ignition problem. When I insert my ignition key and try to start the engine, there is a click and the car doesn't start. It as if there is no charge. However, I am certain the battery is good (one year old) and the alternator is ok. On the 2nd or 3rd go the engine starts. Has anyone had this problem?? Any advice appreciated. Thanks
  3. Thanks you all for the advice, it was greatly appreciated I have now bought a lance, ph snow foam and some wash. Can't to snow foam this weekend. Thanks
  4. Hi All, I have just bought a halfords pressure washer and used it on my GS, using turtle waz universal cleaner (can be used on cars apparently). I'm not entirely impressed , particularly as I have just seen the pic of the snow foam. I was wondering whether you can help?? - How can I use snow foam and can it be used on a halfords pressure washer??? - or do I need to buy a different lance and would it fit the halfords pressure washer???? If anyone has a halfords pressure washer, would you know whether the solution need be diluted prior to adding to the detergent compartment or does the washer dilute it itself to 20 - 1 ratio?? Any help or advice is greatly appreciated. Many Thanks
  5. Thanks for the advice, My thoughts were that if I change from a 5w-40 to a 5w-50 it will provide better protection for motorway driving (as 99% of my driving is on the motorways and then coming to a standstill -M25 usually). Would I be correct in this assumption? In relation to seals. I recently did have to change the crankshaft seal (£450) as it had a leak, which I am told is usual for a high mileage car, as it has done 154K.
  6. Hi All, I have a mark 2 GS300 Sport, I have had it for over 3 years and always used a fully synthetic 05w-40 oil, It has now 152k miles and I have had it since 88. I do alot of motoway mileage (about 99% - 1% in town). As such, I thought it may be better if I used a thicker fully syn. Halfords now do a 05w-50 fully syn (I have always used their 05w-40) as I do alot of motorway driving, I thought of swapping to the 05w-50 from 05w-40. Will this be ok for my high mileage care or should I stay with a thinner 05w-40 synthetic or due to the mileage go for a semi-synthic if so which one???? Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks

  8. As far as I know, to do a proper fluid change you have to do a combo of both. Removing the sump plug does not drain all of the oil, so you drain it first from the sump plug, refill with the same quantity that was drained. You then move on to the cooler pipe, turn the engine over and pump out fluid. re-top up with the amount removed, and keep repeating at the cooler until you start getting clean oil out of the cooler. Thanks, Could you tell me where I could find the gearbox oil cooler pipe please? Thanks Arif
  9. Hi All, I have a MK2 GS300 and am looking to change the transmission oil. The last time I changed it I did this by draining the oil from underneath the gearbox sump, the traditional way, but it was quite a messy job. I understand that it can be done by draining the oil through the oil cooler!!! As anyone done this, and if so could you let me know how this is done and where the gearbox oil cooler is located??? Many Thanks
  10. Hi A bit of a silly question, but it has left me a little confused. I have MK2 GS300 2000 model. I recently changed the brake fluid level a couple of weeks ago and have seen some strange happenings!!!! When the car is cold and the ignition turned off the brake fluid level is where is should be...at the max level. However, when I turn the ignition on the brake servo sucks in fluid and the levels reduces at the min level. So, I'm a little confused should the brake fluid level be at the max level, after the servo has sucked in the fluid OR the Min level after the servo has sucked in the level. Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks
  11. You could try the hipower LED version bulbs or the pia versions as some give out a more cleaner light and dont look yellow so will match your headlamps a bit better? :) Hi, Any ideas where I could get some from, as I agree the yellow aren't so nice, brighter ones would be a lot nicer. Thanks
  12. Hi All, I have a mark 2 GS300 and the near-side side light bulb (the smaller headlight at the front) needs to be changed. Could anyone tell me what the procedure is to change the light? Many Thanks
  13. Thanks to all. One more question. I'm fitting new disks and pads tomorrow and wondered if you knew what the torque wrench settings were for the bolts on the front caliper? Thanks
  14. Hi All, I have been told that overtightening the wheels nuts can lead to warped disks. Can anyone tell me what are the correct torque settings for a GS 300 MK II Model with 18 inch Sport Alloys?? Many Thanks
