  1. Thanks for the suggestions - Local garage checked that the battery was being charged OK and all connections around alternator and charging circuit OK. Car seems OK again now so I guess I'll just have to wait and see if it reoccurs. I think I will change that bulb though!
  2. I would be very grateful for any advice with the following: I was driving home in my 1995 Mk1 GS300 the other day when 4 of the idiot lights came on : charging, add engine oil, replace bulb and washer fluid lights. They went off again after a few minutes. This kept happening every 10 - 15 minutes or so. As all seemed OK I assumed(hoped!) that this was just a loose connection somewhere. As I neared home I realised that all the lighting was getting dimmer and the battery was flattening. I eventually coasted to a halt with dead electrics. The RAC man who trailered me home gave the battery a quick charge and the car was driven on to the trailer. In the morning the car started fine - my local garage checked out the charging system - all was OK so he replaced the battery which was 5 years old and checked/retightened all connections. He reckoned that it was probably just the battery at fault. Unfortunately, tonight the same warning lights have started flashing on and off - any ideas please? thanks Dave PS Probably a complete coincidence but the morning before this all started I replaced a rear stop bulb that seems to keep blowing
  3. Just an additional thought - you say it won't eject - I assume you've checked the 2 connectors to the rear of the unit are fully in, fuses etc?
  4. I eventually managed to get one from Parts Plaza, Unit 20 Marshgate Lane London E15 0208 5360101 for £135 - If no luck there, I know that Autosound do repair these units.
  5. I've been trying to get somebody to repair the CD changer in my MK1 GS300 ( Permanent ERR3s) - Had no luck so far so I'll give Autosound a try. Regarding breakers - I've also had no luck there. Anybody know any particularly good ones for Lexus? Thanks
  6. Nice one Jac!! :D I'm standing by the door now about to go in with the chainsaw etc poised! I'll let you know how I got on. Why didnt you change the speaker? Dave
  7. I bought one for my MK1 GS300 from Lexus Twickenham - I think it cost around £35
  8. Can anyone advise on how to remove the front door panels from a 95 GS300 MK1. I have found one screw at the far edge and 3 along the bottom but cannot see what else is needed to remove it. I have looked through the archives, but can only find reference to the MK2. I understand that a 5.25 speaker will fit. Any recommendations for these? Thanks in advance
  9. An update to my previous post re blowing a radio fuse while trying to check out my faulty CD which may be of help : ( BTW Thanks to Jac and Pewe for their advice) The blown fuse ended up being on the power PCB on the rear of the radio - there are 2 surface mount type of 6.3A fuses here. Not sure how I managed to blow that! I had to solder in an inline type hanging off the board - not elegant but works OK. While I had the radio out I decided to risk the C101 / 102 mod described by Justin to improve the awful sound. The caps are quite easy to get to - Take the front fascia off ( screw either side ) and then pull away the bottom of the casing - the caps are on the underside of the PCB. Glad to say that this has made an enormous difference - Not only some actual treble but it will now go quite a bit LOUDER! Those darn caps are just shunting alot of the signal to earth. However, I would repeat Justin's warning - unless you have some experience working on surface mount PCBs then leave it - The surface mount caps are tiny - I very nearly chickened out but decided to go ahead as I had an Alpine unit in the wings if it all went horribly wrong. I also discovered what was causing the err3 on the CD - It loads fine but doesnt rotate - Not helpful! Anyone got a CD unit for a 95 GS300? Dave
  10. I've been getting frequent err3 messages on the CD player in my 1994 GS300. I tried curing this by disconnecting and reconnected the power connectors to the changer unit. Unfortunately, the radio is now dead with no display at all(also the aerial does not work). I have checked all fuses in the engine bay and footwell fuseboxes and they are all OK. Are there any other fuses? If the worst has happened and I've blown the unit, I would love to fit an Alpine unit I have - Is the only option to completely rewire? Are the fascia panels only available in the US? Thanks in advance.
  11. Hello, I'm a new member to the board having bought a GS300 in August. It's a 94 MK1 with 99000 on the clock and full dealer history - Really enjoying being wafted about in luxury - makes my old Xantia seem a bit basic! My question is regarding servicing which is now due. I used to own an old Porsche and remember that there was a really excellent network of independent garages which would carry out good quality servicing at a fraction of the exorbitant main dealer prices. My question is, does the same sort of situation exist for Lexus? ( I am in the South east) or do you find the Lexus main dealers offer good value? I dont mind paying more if the job is going to be done better! I am just concerned as in my company car days I used to use Ford and Vauxhall main dealers and was never that impressed with them. I would be grateful for any advice / suggestions. Also I would be grateful for any help with a CD problem that I have - I just get the err message when I try and play CDs. The cartridge loads into the carrier and I hear the CDs loading in - (they also eject OK) - when I press play I hear a faint click - click - click and then the err message appears. Anyway I'm off now for a blast (or crawl) around the M25! Many thanks
