  1. Apparently this particular forum is for all current IS models and not just the 300H so may I add a comment from the perspective of an IS250 owner? I too have been wondering how to turn off the double-beep and have even had doubts that it warns of speed cameras - I think that a tiny camera icon appears on the map as well as hearing the beeps but it is so small that it doesn't provide much guidance. I have searched pdf files of the Owner's manual and the Satnav manual using terms such as "camera"' "speed" or "speed camera" and can confirm that there is nothing that even comes close to matching them. If anyone finds, or is already in possession of, some instructions about this feature of the car, please post.
  2. I have already tried disabling the Homehub3 firewall and i don't think that the problem is with the encryption (WPA2) passphrase as entering in an incorrect one deliberately gets an error message to that effect. I have had a look at the router Event Log but can't see any indication of an attempt to allocate an IP address but I'll follow up on your suggestion about looking for the car's MAC address and see if there is anything there that might help.
  3. Has anyone managed to connect a third generation IS250 to a WiFi network? I get as far as "authentication" and then "receiving IP address"; then, after a couple of minutes, the "connection unsuccessful " notification. I am definitely entering in the correct passphrases and, in one series of attempts, the WiFi hotspot was within a few feet of the car and the signal strength was high. My router is a BT HomeHub 3 , although I can't see why this might prevent the car from being connected, as it doesn't mind visitors' iPads, mobile phones and the like. Any suggestions?
  4. On my first two Lexus IS250's, I found it impossible to charge an iPhone and listen via the AUX socket such was the interference. I never found a way round this - my current IS250 has bluetooth but it's not exactly enough reason to buy a new car.
  5. Dudi, You might be interested in this thread, which gives details of a web site where owners manual can be downloaded. http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic/61890-is250-handbook-as-a-pdf-download/
  6. Before you invest in a new battery, check that the battery connections are clean and firm. If they are not forming a good connection, you can often get enough power through them to, say, light instruments or interior lights but not enough to start the car, which places a much heavier load on the battery. Corrosion at the connections is a possible consequence of all the damp weather we have been having lately. However, before you disconnect the battery, check in your owners manual that this will not then require any reprogramming - with some cars it is a no-no to disconnect the battery but I am not sure if this also applies to an IS. Nevertheless, as others have suggested, a flat battery remains the most likely cause of your problem.
  7. OK, thanks for the clarification - I was a bit exhausted when I looked at the picture!
  8. I must be missing something... The advert talks about the item only in the singular and explicitly says that it (not them) is for an IS250. Wouldn't you need two?
  9. I understand your point, PilgrimIS, about wanting to put your personal stamp on your car and those spoilers do look very discreet and in keeping with the car's style. My 3 generation IS250 has something similar on the boot so Lexus clearly thought that something was missing. When you have fixed your spoilers, maybe you could post a photo or two?
  10. I have found that Lexus paint is very soft (I think that it is because of a change from oil to water-based paint to conform to international regulations) so sticking on something with tape might result in the whole thing ripping away, along with the paintwork. Also, I wonder if you might be reducing any resale value of your car. Frankly, I would reject a Lexus with any after-sales modification as it suggests that other modifications may have been fitted or tried. That's a purely personal view, of course.

  12. Sorry, wrong link. Here is the thread title, in the main forum: Annoying Knocking Noise From Driver Side Front Wheel
  13. Hi John_B, take a look at this thread to see if it helps identify the problem: http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/forum/127-lexus-is-250-lexus-is-250c-club-lexus-is-220d-is-200d-club/
  14. "I still would prefer a straight 6 rather than a V6 though" An interesting comment as straight 6's seem to be less favoured in the motoring press than V-6's. The argument seems to be that the shorter length of a V-6 crankshaft makes for a more compact and better balanced engine.
  15. That's not really what I was after. I like the easy access feature but there are occasions when it becomes something undesirable for a very short time, and I suggested the example of getting out of the car to assist someone in the rear seat to get out. This can be difficult if their feet have become pinned in the footwell by the seat having moved to the rear. I was hoping that this might be prevented as a one-off by something quick and easy, and which reverts back when re-starting the car. I can't find anything like this in the manual but the people in this forum are soooooo clever!
  16. A nice feature of the latest generation of IS250 is the easy egress, whereby the seat moves back automatically when turning off the engine or unbuckling the driver's seat belt. However, if there is a passenger (human or canine) on the rear seat, or a parcel on the floor, there is a real danger of them being crushed. This is particularly the case if the passenger is frail or infirm, and I get out the car to assist them getting out. Has anyone found a way to disable this feature very temporarily? I know that it is possible to set the amount of seat movement but this is then permanent until reset.
  17. Some years ago, when living in the USA, I found that, on many American cars, turning on screen demist would automatically turn on aircon as this tends to dry out the air and help with the demist process. Another benefit of turning on the aircon during cooler times is to help keep seals lubricated and prolong the life of the aircon unit. Aircon clearly uses some fuel but I don't know that it's a lot and it could well be that the small cost of extra fuel is offset by faster, and hence and safer, demisting, and by prolonging the life of a very expensive aircon unit.
  18. I can't say that I've noticed much difference in the speed of gear changes but I haven't had much chance to do a lot of open road driving and I never use the paddles. However, I will be driving up to Cumbria in a couple of month's time so I'll make a point of noticing the gear change speed when on your A and B roads.
  19. When I was a young man (back in the olden days, as my grandchildren tell me), most cars had 4 cylinder engines and they were never as smooth as anything with 6 cylinders. However, 6 + cylinders were mostly confined to the top end of the market and were beyond my pocket. A notable exception was the 2-litre Triumph Vitesse, and I lusted after one of these because I thought that they were so smooth after my Vauxhall Wyvern (1.5 litre, 4 cylinders, 3 speed gearbox, no redeeming features whatsoever). However, for various reasons, my cars over the next few or more decades were family 4-cylinder models. But I still lusted after something with 6 because I continue to believe that a good 6 will always be smoother than a good 4. I have driven very many different makes and models of cars all over the world and have never experienced anything to change my mine. The biggest advantage of the IS250 over most of its competitors is that it has a sweet engine with 6 cylinders, and they have only 4.
  20. You don't say if your IS250 is auto or manual. Although contrary to conventional wisdom, the auto is generally held to be more economical than the manual. I have had three auto IS250 and, around town, I got/get about 22mpg; on long runs, 38mpg; and mixed conditions, about 30mpg. As for getting more grunt, isn't this sacrilege - a bit like adding meths to Bollinger special cuvee to give it a kick? Seriously though, a Lexus IS250 is probably not the sort of car that go-faster mods have been developed for but you might want to have a look at the web site of the USA Lexus owners club and see if there's anything there.
  21. Interesting reading but nothing about reliability - a strong point of Lexus. I am a bit puzzled about some of the comparisons with German rivals; for example, the "somewhat underwhelming" 202bhp of the Lexus compared with the 184bhp of the "benchmark" BMW 320i M Sport Auto (which is also £500 more expensive). I have taken the BMW details from this site: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/new-cars/derivative/55683
  22. I'm with you, agent_dess. My chauffeur says that a Lexus, like democracy, is far too good for ordinary people. Mind you, the rest of my servants think that he says that only because he wants to be promoted to butler. Nevertheless, it really is a nice feeling to drive a Lexus.
  23. You are absolutely right, petayV8. Here's an extract from a post I made a couple of years ago: "I recently drove from Cheltenham to a small town called Palmanova in North East Italy. In a journey of 1000 miles, I saw only three Lexus's (Lexi?), and none of them was an IS. The first day in Palmanova, I saw a white IS250 SEL automatic parked on the street. I drive a white IS250 SEL automatic! Cosa significa? "
  24. I agree that Lexus could, but they don't - advertisements for executive cars are dominated by Lexus rivals. This doesn't seem to be a sensible marketing strategy but I well recall trying to get an IS250 soon after they were introduced in the UK and finding that dealers across the country were saying that they could sell almost immediately any that they could get. Just this week I called in at my local Lexus dealer who said that sales were very buoyant. Perhaps Lexus are not interested in mass selling and prefer an image of selling a quality product to a discerning customer set. Having said that, there does seem to have been a move recently by Lexus to advertise more.
