  1. Yesterday I put a deposit on a small town car for my wife and so the Lexus will be going I've given it a good clean and polish and it really does look good, inside and out.
  2. When I was using my Mk1 GS300 Sport I used to average 25 mpg which was a mix of motorway and city driving. On the motorway/dual carriageway I tended to cruise at 100 mph so I'd think it might be possible to get 30 mpg on a run if you stick to the speed limit.
  3. We do a fair mileage in the Nissan, but also tow a caravan and have a dog so need a decent sized estate. We only need 2 cars when the weather is like now as I ride all year round but call it quits when the roads are icy. A small car would mean really good mpg during the week and ease of use for my wife and the Nissan would be used at weekends and holidays with the caravan.
  4. Hi all, its been a while since I last popped in here, took me ages to find an old post so I could remember my user id! I have a '97 GS300 Sport that I've owned for the last 10 years but don't really use as I tend to commute by motorbike and at 20-25 mpg its not exactly a cheap car to run nowadays. The main car is a Nissan Primers diesel but it has quite a heavy clutch (common with them) and my wife finds it hard to drive as she has arthritis and wants an alternative. Now we both like the GS and as its an auto my wife finds it easy to drive, it has all the toys and is very reliable (just passed its MOT after been sat in the garage since last March) however she does all town driving and the GS will only be doing 15-18 mpg which just doesn't make sense financially. I've been chatting to a guy who has a Mk2 with LPG and tends to get 20-22 mpg when running on it, which works out at 40-44 equivalent on petrol. However the cost of converting the car is £1,400 and at the end of the day we are talking about a 15 year old car. However its a car I can see going on an on, is great to drive, still looks good etc etc. Alternatvely we sell the GS and buy a town car but there's a bit of me that just doesn't want to get rid of the GS, I'm only the 3rd owner, the first being the dealers who pre-registered it, so the reality is 2 owners in 15 years and I've put the majority of the 127k on the clocks of which most was motorways/fast A roads. So does anyone have good or bad experiences of running LPG on the Mk1 GS?
  5. Usually leave it on a trickle charger but put a new battery in and it's the right way round. Went back to the old battery and still the same well i am sorry i cant help you but someone will be able to help you on here, but it sounds like you got a live feed going down a what should be a closed, hope you sort it soon if not get diadnostic done. As the car has been standing unused also check for corroded fuses and relays. A stuck relay may be hot, any thing thats electrical that is affected by damp etc I pulled all the relays in the engine bay last night and it made no difference. Does anyone have the details of what systems the ignition switch connects to and how?

  7. try disconnecting the fan again but dont reconnect it, and try your ignition, if its ok then you have a problem with the fan or the loom going to it by shorting Tried that but it makes no difference. Also noticed that if I switch the ignition off, though the dash stays lit, the air con and radio switch off, though the arial doesn't retract. If I swith the radio off with the ignition turned on, the radio goes down and stays down when I remove the key. This has really got me stumped as some of the electronics are reacting to switching off, such as the radio, aircon and the engine stops and starts as normal. then i cant help you on this one sorry, sounds like you got live wire arking accross somewhere, have you had any work done before you had the trouble Nope, I only use the car in winter as I commute on a motorbike the rest of the year, so that car's been sat for a while. Arghhhhh I hate electrical problems

  9. I've been having some problems with the alarm siren going off even when the car (GS300 Mk1 Sport) was being driven. I'd put this down to the bonnet catch and after a bit of WD40 seemed to be fixed, however I'd also noted that the electric cooling fan in the engine bay was coming on as soon as the ignition came on. I disconnected and recconnected the fan but no changes, except that when I took the key out of the ignition, the dash was still lit up, the steering wheel didn't retract and all the cabin electrics were still live. So has anyone got any suggestions as to what has happened and how to fix it? At the moment I'm having to disconnect the battery every time I stop the car.
  10. Not sure I see what all the fuss is about. He's taken 4 wheels in for a refurb, it's not gone 100% and two have imperfections. Normally this wouldn't be a problem as I'm sure they would simply have redone the two sub standard wheels to the required standards. However as the client lives in Spain and the car was going over there the next day that wasn't possible. Personally I don't see why the company should stump up the cost of shipping the wheels to the guy in Spain, it's not their fault that he lives there and though they didn't get the job right they haven't actually charged him anything either. What you have is a company that has not done a job to the required standards and therefore not charged the client for the work done but have offered to redo the wheels if he brings them back to their workplace, hardly an unreasonable stance to take.
  11. I've got a 97 GS 300 Mk1 Sport and don't really use it much these days. As a result I often leave it in the garage with the bonnet up with it connected to a trickle charger. Recently an alarm has been going off, though not the actual car alarm. Its a sort of quiet siren sound coming from the offside front wing and stops as soon as the ignition is switched on but starts again as soon as it's switched off. The alarm doesn't seem to have anything to do with the cars security alarm, as the car will lock and unlock via the fob but this makes no difference to this other alarm. I'm wondering if there is some sort of bonnet sensor and this is a warning to say that the bonnet is open. In the past I've taken the car for a quick spin and after a few miles the alarm has stopped for good, I've assumed it's some sensor that is stuck and the pothole roads round here bounce it back in to position. Has anyone got any ideas as to what the actual problem is as the car is currently not taxed and everytime I do anything in the garage this alarm is driving me up the walls. Thanks Mac
  12. I was watching as I'm considering selling mine. Mines a 97 in the same colour and with similar miles but the wheels could do with a referb and as its spent most of it's life cruising at speed, does suffer with stone chips to the front bumper, bonnet and one bugger of a chip on the front wing (Happend 2 weeks after I got it!) I was considering plagerising your add, as I thought you presented the car well.
  13. Thanks for that. Mines a Mk1 97 but the sound would seem to be coming from that area. I am wondering if there is a bonnet sensor as I've had the bonnet up for months with the car on trikle charge and wondered if a sensor was sticking open.
  14. Out of interest, where did you get the tow bar from? I looked at getting one for my car last year but couldn't souce one.
  15. Just noticed your avatar, did you just sell your Mk1 on Ebay, the photo looks remarkably similar?
