  1. Thanks for the input. My insurance company (Norwich Union) cover me for the theft of the keys rergardless of where they were stolen from. They didn't specify the need for proof such as a police report but the theft of my key has been reported aswell as the theft of the Landcruiser - despite the fact that they key and the landcruiser were stolen on the same occasion. I reported this seperately on the advice of my insurance company but with the NCB situation it's not worth claiming for it. Therefore my only options are paying the 600pound for new locks or paying 50pound for a recode of my existing key. I asked more details about this (recoding the key). They said that they will be able to gain entry, however, if they try and start the car as normal then an alarm will go off. The guy in the garage said he's honestly not sure how much easier it would be to get the car going once inside it. So I guess they can only gain entry by using the actual key that pops out the key ring then. I'm getting the key recoded tomorrow and will just box the car in tonight to make sure it can't move. I've still not decided about the locks getting changed, i want to know more about the security in the car - all of a sudden i'm interested in this aspect ! I'm going to read the manuals etc tonight and do some browsing on the net. Thanks Again, I will keep you posted on what I finally decide, if i can't be 99% sure then I will fork out the 600, better than losing the car KPj
  2. Hi A toyota Landcruiser was stolen from our drive last night, they stole the key from our house, and along with that, they have stolen the spare key for my IS 220D. I see i have 2 options, recode the key I have, or change the locks. Personally i would prefer to recode the key I have, but I hear it's not as effective as they can still gain entry to the car with the old key, but just can't start the engine with it ? Is this correct ? Has anyone had to do this ? BTW, since my recent 5th injector problems, the car is back to it's good old self, but I want to do some more miles in it before I can come on and say that confidently :-) Anyway, any advice on the key thing would be greatly appreciated, I am reluctant to replace the locks due to cost, i'm quoted 500-600 pounds! I could claim it through insurance, but currently I have 4 years no claims, in about 5-6 months I will have 5, and can then get them protected. If I claim, my bonus goes down to 3 years on renewal, and my premium goes way up. Over 2 years, including the excess, I would ba paying back closer to 900-1000 quid for making the claim. So i either recode the keys, or fork out a 600 pound lump sum.... heeeeeeeeeeeellllp! Would i be wasting my time recoding the key i have? Thanks KPj
  3. For the record, I loved the first trouble free 10k miles in my 220D. I've also been a BMW fanatic for most of my life and hesitantly went for the Lexus and had, and have no regrets. I don't know much about cars mechanically, and the Lexus is my first 'prestige' car, and new car for that matter. Before this I had a Golf, and before that I had a Corsa. I ran them both to the ground - in terms of mileage - and I never had repeated issues like this, neither was I ever without the cars for so long. As i said in another thread, my R reg Corsa had less issues post 100K Miles. Despite the farce with this dreaded 5th Injector, I must admit that I am looking forward to getting it back and, being aware of the price difference in the Merc, I do wonder how it can be justified. Maybe this is a case of "you get what you pay for" or it could just be case of bad luck... If the former is the case here, I would happily pay an extra 5K for a prestige, trouble free car :-) ...but then again i would rather Lexus just got it third time lucky and I gave me the car back in working order
  4. LOL @ the guy being on holiday... You just the impression that there up to something? I think someone on this forum suggested that they should of recalled but were trying to cover up the mistake, or a bad batch went out or something... Unless they just don't know what's the problem is and are still trying to figure it out... I really dont know, don't know much about these things... It will all come out in the wash, as the saying goes.. Will also keep you updated... But yeah, the merc is fantastic, I read a review saying that staring down at the badge on the bonnet gives you a great feeling of "well being" - so true :winky:
  5. I'm one of the 220d victims... Went in first time, 5th injector, they updated ECU, worked for 1 week, went back in, they allegedly changed the 5th injector, worked for a week, happened again, went back in to garage. first week I had a hire car, astra, it was terrible. second time (third visit for same problem) I had a Vectra, also terrible... The indicators in a vauxhall alone will drive you nuts! Anyway, when I had the vectra, they werent really telling me anything... They told me the same thing about the part coming on the 20th (ish) June. I became increasingly frustrated with the fact that I had been driving a vauxhall for best part of a month, for the price of a lexus. I had the astra one week, then vectra for 2. I complained to Lexus GB and they replaced the hire car immediatly, no questions asked. They gave ma black E class, 07 plate, Avantgarde. Fantastic. Suddenly i wasn't too bothered. Obviously the 20th June has come and gone. I didnt get any communication from the dealer about what was happening, the part had already arrivived and presumably had been fitted. I didn't want to pester them 'coz the E class is superb. I just called about 10 minutes ago and now i'm told they are waiting on more parts??? One arriving 5th July and the other arrives 19th July!!!! Don't get me wrong, I am delighted that i'm cruising around in an E class, but it gets you pretty paranoid when you are being messed about like this. If I don't get it back till end of July that will be 2 months, and i have yet to get an explanation of the problem. I got an explanation of the 5th injector thing, then they changed it, then it happened again, since then I get nothing... But still... happy days in the Merc - Deffinitly contact Lexus GB
  6. I've been too nice, i think. Time to kick up a fuss. Lexus have just lost out to Audi because of my issues as a work mate was stuck between the 2 and went for the safer, more reliable option.... lol, low blow I will say now though, in teh interest of balance, if they resolve all of this rubbish then I will reply to all of my negative posts with positive ones. :D
  7. My IS220D has just went into the dealers for the third time in 3 weeks. It has already had the 5th injector changed. I really don't know what else I'm supposed to do here, and the guys in the garage seem dumbfounded, not to mention very busy with other 220D's. The best of my situation is that this is my first 'prestige' car. I always had my heart set on a 3 series. i was swayed by a good deal I was offered as well as the IS looking so good, Lexus reputation, and all the toys you get even in the base spec. I loved the car first and had no regrets at all, I was glad I got it. It's now a love hate relationship. Everyone can understand the odd fault, it happens but 3 times in 3 weeks???? It actually has an effect on the time you lose with all the messing about with the RAC (replacement car), going back to the garage to collect it and the time you spend on the phone. I've probably lost half a day to a days work due to the problems with this - not to mention that it is infact, a Lexus. You put the key in your pocket and the car does the rest! That's how it was until I hit 10K anyway. I had less issues with my R Reg vauxhall Corsa post 100K miles!!! Anyway, rant over. On a more productive note - does anyone know if this issue can actually be fixed ? Dealer told me the part won't be here till the 21st June. I've already had the 5th injector change, so they say anyway (on the 2nd visit)... Now i'm getting another one (third visit). I feel like there taking the ***** being honest, i'm basically driving a vauxhall for the price of a Lexus aswell... And the garage still don't seem to have a clue if it will be fixed... I got an email from Lexus/Toyota customer relations saying they would contact me shortly (after me complaining / going on a rant), but nothing. That was couple of days ago. I did tell them that the customer relations side of it was fine, it was the car / manufacturer that seemed to be the problem... I doubt I will hear from them... This is deffinitly the last time i'm going through this. I hope it can be fixed bcause i do love the car when it works....
  8. Spendid idea - mine is due another rattle visit, and I will ask the dealer for a courtesy car which is a newer 220d (07)...I also agree that there are so many about....which is a bad thing...rarity going, going, gone... Jamboo - how did you go about getting the courtesy car? They keep telling me they don't have any therefore I have been driving a Vauxhall (Car hire, RAC) for the majority of the last 2 - 3 weeks.... It has been into the dealer 3 times in 3 weeks, I got the car december 06, don't know when it was manufactured ? It wouldn't be half as frustrating if they gave me a Lexus for the time being... Also, i'm getting the 5th injector changed, AGAIN, ever get the feeling that you are just being messed about ??!! On a more positive note, the only reason I still have the car is because it was so great for the first 10K miles and I really hope they can fix it...
  9. I have 11000 miles on the clock. It's been in the garage 3 times in 3 weeks for the same problem. The second visit got the 5th injector change but still get the same problem. Up unitl now I have been very patient and understanding but the way I feel now, I just want rid of it. I'm driving a Vauxhall Vectra as a replacement car and I am dreading getting the Lexus back. Obviously the Vectra has nothing on the Lexus, but i'm confident that the Vectra won't break down or go into safe mode or whatever... Is there a fix ? Does anyone know ? I think if I get it back and it happens again, i'm going to make the car 'limp' through the showroom window!!!!
