  1. Mini Clubman? Oh dear! Please come back to the Mothership!
  2. Nigel, what a lovely family story! A888MHJ is that an Opel Manta? Porche 924? Before the Manta? I could not help looking at the Flickr posts - some very interesting vehicles!
  3. RA? Another northern term? By gum you speak right foreign!
  4. If you lived down south you would get many more of these days! We have had crazy weather this September - really warm at night as well. Climate change is here WEATHER we like it or not!
  5. We are definitely on the same page regarding finance! Both my grown up children are, thankfully, sensible with money. I remember, many years ago, a colleague getting married and buying everything new after getting a mortgage for his house. He visited our home and could not believe that we had my old single bed with scatter cushions for a sofa. We were just not prepared to get into any more debt than the mortgage - interest rates were 16% in 1981! Nearly everyone has to borrow at some point in their lives but it is not a good habit to get into. Sadly, many people WANT NOW - they are not prepared to wait.
  6. I have driven through a large village that has a 20 mph limit all the way through. I am all for safety but 20 mph is very difficult to maintain - 25 mph might be more reasonable - just my opinion. Back to topic - I am also in the old codgers brigade and have no desire to race around like a headless chicken. Steady driving is much more relaxing and less strenuous on the nerves. It also saves you money. I am not advocating dawdling, but you gain very few minutes on medium length runs. We have all seen the "racing driver" overtake everyone he can and then catch him up at the roadworks! With age comes wisdom - I hope!
  7. I had a quick refresher on Maslow. Interestingly his Safety Needs (second most important), encompass employment, resources and property. I wonder if it can be argued that materialism is an extension of feeling secure? Unfortunately many people get into difficulties because they do not prioritise the most important aspects of their life. For example, your home rent/mortgage should be your first priority, then food and heating.
  8. I imagine that attitudes have changed. Am I being naive? Or possibly just looking at life now in my 60's, where priorites have changed. Things that were very important when I was young, do not seem to bother or interest me that much. I now appreciate I have turned into my Dad!
  9. Yes watched that one! He seems to sell the cars he posts before it is on YouTube.
  10. i can't actually believe that this was a BBC documentary! Thinking back - I did know someone very similar to these guys. He was obsessed with image and that was reflected in the car he drove. They all seem very shallow. But in the early 90's I suppose that is what people thought. The best line was from a Personel Manager, "Company cars are not a game ...... they are a disease!" I wonder what the people in the film would think now?
  11. The car is advertised as a 2017 model - but it is younger! Why would you try to sell a younger car as an older car? Does not look like a personalised plate either?
  12. First MOT for the NX300h Visited Lexus Canterbury - very polite reception by Finley. Smooth handover when I picked the car up - washed and waxed as well. All part of the service plan. Chatted with Matt (sales) regarding used stock. As they hve transferred to the Steven Eagell Group they have aquired a large used stock from Maidstone. Bought a touch-up oen set (£9.99) as I have a small stone chip on one of the doors. No issues found - as one would expect from a Lexus! Wifey drove the NX home, while I wafted in the LS400! I took the long way home!
  13. It is the most expensive car in their stock. The reviews seem very mixed!
  14. Quite a few years ago, Mitsubishi brought out the Carisma model (no carisma at all actually!) and a local taxi firm bought them in. After some had covered big mileages (200,000 +) they went to trade them in. Mitsubishi bought them at a premium price to strip down to see how well they had run. I thought they did that before launching but apparently "real world driving" - especially hard driving as a taxi was a better test bed.
