  1. If you allow someone to test drive your car without checking they have a license AND insurance you are committing an offense. As Mike says above, you take a calculated risk even if the above is observed. If they prang the car then you will almost certainly be on third party insurance and lose the value of the vehicle you are selling. I have sold a few cars privately and most of the transactions have run smoothly. Be very aware if more than two people turn up to view the car. Trade-in values at garages are on the low side so you need to weigh up the advantages (more money) with the possible disadvantages (Test pilots, who have no intention of buying the car - time wasters). Hassle free option is to trade-in. Some potential buyers are very nice to deal with but you must expect the pain in the ar$e buyer who just wants a bargain by trying to pick as many faults as possible. If you are an honest seller, then list all the faults you know of and show the potential purchaser. Be very wary of cash. Someone I knew accepted cash and after the purchaser left the hundred pound bundles were short. Also be aware of counterfeit money being handed over. Bank transfer, as Mike suggests, is usually instant and can be verified if you have internet banking. It all sounds very scary but you need to be made aware of what can happen. Has anyone on the forum actually sold their car to Webuyanycar.com or similar? Your experience would be helpful if you are willing to share, as Herbie did with his Lexus purchase. Just my thoughts, others may add more.
  2. I just LOVE that colour combination! It gives me the feeling of summer!
  3. Had to Google that! Thought it might be to do with the Kama Sutra!
  4. I know couples who are very similar - I find it very strange. I wonder if they had their wedding vows changed from: "For richer or poorer!" adding .. Excluding my bank account!
  5. I did not want to appear rude I was just interested if you were happy with the trade-in. I have just had a sneak peek at the Lexus website and saw the Mesa red one! What a lovely car Herbs! That is a beauty! ENJOY!
  6. That is a lovely colour combination! Congratulations! I don't want to ask how much but were you happy with the trade-in value they gave you for your RX? Model? Sport? Luxury?
  7. That is interesting as I have a vibration around 80mph. Only achieved that speed once (on a test track of course!) since I got the car. Not through the steering but through the seat. My tyres are 5 years old, so possibly that could be the issue also. The four figure age code on the tyres give it 2016. There is grazing on the rear tyre walls so I will change them. The car seems to have done approximately 15,000 miles on these tyres.
  8. Do you have a similar PDF for the RX450h series 3 Colin? I have searched the forum but can't find a link. Thanks
  9. They are one of the best looking cars ever made, in my humble opinion.
  10. Excellent! Who will drive it from the dealers? Photos! Photos! Photos! No Photo? You didn't pick it up!
  11. Cost wise yes, but inconvenience as it sits in the garage waiting to be repaired? That would drive me nuts!
  12. S aw the episode where she drove a Transit van round the Nurbergring. Perfect English and with a lovely personality. Very sad indeed.
  13. My friend had the Victor with the 2.3 engine. It could go around roundabouts in 4th gear without any judder. The torque was amazing. The rust was something else!
  14. I have no issue with the CVT transmission. The other day I, unusually, undertook some "spirited driving" accelerating hard. Yes it is quite noisy when you drive in this fashion. I can imagine it might annoy such drivers. I would suggest the majority of Lexus hybrid drivers drive more sedately and enjoy the quiet and comfort a Lexus gives in spades.

  16. I watched an episode of Top Gear the other day where the three presenters drove the cars their Dad had. Brought back memories for me. It was quite poignant. I had driving lessons in an Austin 1100 - lots of driving schools ran them. I also was taught by my Dad in his Mk2 Cortina 1300. After passing my test (second attempt) I was allowed to drive his Cortina and his van. A Ford 400E Thames 15 cwt, three speed gearbox - vacuum wipers - no seatbelts - drum brakes no assistance with braking or steering. The starter button was behind the driver's seat, as was the choke and 12v battery. I bought my first a year later for £50. Ford Anglia (Harry Potter) 1 litre. Bought a Pye Auto Reverse Cassette player to go in it, that cost £40! Ford Anglia.jfif
  17. Sorry to hear that Chris but I expect you are excited about your coming vehicle. Were you happy with the trade-in price they gave you? I mean was it better than you expected considering the problems?
  18. I apologise unreservedly for upsetting anyone with my comment. It was somewhat insensitive of me to make that comment considering the circumstances many people are living in with COVID. When people face temporary financial hardship, then it does make sense not to spend money on filling a petrol tank. There is a huge range of incomes and car values on this forum. I consider myself to be in the lower value bracket for owning a Lexus. If you wish to own a premium car on a tight budget, then a Lexus is the obvious choice, as ongoing expenditure will usually be far less than other premium brands. The Lexus forum is usually very good natured and free from Keyboard Warriors. Opinions differ and there is nothing wrong in that. To suggest that I am a snob, when you don’t know me, is a little harsh. I have given my reasons for filling my tank, as others have. I still stand by my assertion that if someone runs a car that they can’t afford to put petrol in, then they are running a car that they can’t really afford. A relation of mine, many years ago, bought an old Jaguar. He took up running ……… to keep fit? No, it was because he could not afford to take the Jag to work every day! Was he a snob? I don’t know. What I do know was that he was running a car he could not really afford. I am sure we all know examples of people who own an expensive car or motorbike (usually on PCP) and their wife is struggling to make ends meet. It is about priorities in life, that was the point I was trying to make, but rather poorly – I apologise once again for upsetting anyone. It was not my intention.
