  1. Thanks for the advice. I have already bought the cambelt/tensioner/oil filter from Lexus. I would not use pattern parts as I have read stories of inaccurate oil filter pressure valves causing engine wear. Will problably sell the car next year as it is getting on despite it being immaculate and low on mileage. I looked at the Audi TT, nice car but their reliabilty record is way down.
  2. Hi Guys. I asked this a short while ago and did not get that many replies and I would appreciate your advice, knowledge and experience. I have an IS200, 2000 on a 'W' 33,000 miles. It has a full Lexus service history. This year I need to replace the cambelt and have the intermediate service. Total cost £500. A local engineer and IS200 owner will do the work for £200. I will probably part ex the car next year, so I wonder if the history will make that much difference on a car that is 7 years old? Thanks Tony
  3. Thanks Chris. Is that an original part, and where could I pick one up? Tony.
  4. I have just been into Lexus Oxford to buy a cambelt and tensioner. The cambelt cost £27 but I was quoted over £100 for the tensioner !! I want to get the job done properly and was wondering if someone can tell me if the tensioner should be changed with the belt? Can anyone recommend an original part supplier that is closer to reality on price? Thanks for all the great advice this forum provides, it has saved me a fortune over the years. Tony.
  5. About £330 for the cam belt and £200 for the service. Cam belt sholud be changes at 100, 000 miles or 6 years whichever is first.
  6. My 2000, IS200 SE has done 35,000 miles and a full Lexus service history. The cam belt is up for change, overdue in fact and it also needs its imtermediate service. I was thinking of having it serivced by a good independant engineer, (IS200 owner) using Lexus parts, instead of paying several hundreds of pounds to the local dealer who has made a few errors in the past. Thing is I will probably part exchange it at the Lexus dealer next year for a new IS250. Will not having the full dealer history be that important bearing in mind that the car is 7 years old now? I would appreciate your views.
  7. Hi, I wonder if you are able to help? The blower motor, (air-con) squeaks at low revs. this increases as you increase the speed, and then fades as the revs get higher. I have removed it and sprayed WD40 on the spindle of the blower motor/fan which has had little effect. Any ideas on how i may cure this? By the way, Happy New Year to you all, Brilliant website loads of useful info. Tony.
  8. Being a novice to this site, what does the 'warn' section mean on the left hand side of the post box, under my details.
  9. Thanks, that helps to explain things. Is there anyone out there who can recommend a Wheel alignment specialist in the Oxford area?
  10. Advice needed please! My IS200Se has just had its 40,000 service at Oxford. The tyre report shows that the o/side rear tyre has worn excessively on the inside. The inner edge of the tyre is down to the legal limit, while the rest of it is 5mm. All the other tyres are wearing evenly. I am told that I need all the wheels realigned at a cost of £95, plus two new rear tyres, cost £125, all plus vat. I am told that it is not worth realigning the wheels with the old rear tyres on. 1. If the alignment is out, is it normal for just one tyre to wear? 2. Should I have this done at the dealer, or seek a cheaper option? 3. Is it correct that the wheels cannot be aligned with the existing tyres fitted? Tyres are Bridgestone Potenzas. Thanks.
  11. The ERR3 happened to my Cd player last week. I have been back to the dealer who say's that there is a fault on some players if ERR3 keeps appearing. They can tell from the model number on the front of the player. I have a new one coming under warranty.
  12. Brian, thanks very much for your helpful tip. It is not just Lexus but all makes who suffer from this problem. The manufacturer's all need to improve their security.
  13. This happens every month at Lexus oxford, so there is little being discussed that the thief does'nt know.
  14. You've got it. That is what I recall being told it was. The thing is are there locking nuts out there that are 'gator grip proof' ?
  15. Apparantly, you can buy a universal socket, the inside of which is made up of hexagonal pins. All you do is place this over the locking wheel nut and undo it! QVC , Halfords etc stock these.
