  1. Hi Alan, You're gonna love you're new car, mine still puts a smile on my face every time I drive it, actually before that-even when I open the door and get a whiff of the trim!! I've just done the cambelt on my 99' Series 4 LS400, the interval according to Autodata is 63k miles or 7 years (whichevers the sooner), mine had one at 42k and has now done 103k, the belt I took off looked brand new still! I've had 2 Series 3's beforehand and did the cambelt on one of them too, the vvti (like mine and yours is a little easier than the earlier one-no distributor caps, leads etc), everyone makes a fuss about what a job they are, well Autodata give 2.8hrs, I guess if you did them regularly you could do it in that time, I'm an ex mechanic who's now disabled so I did it (and changed the plugs) over a day (with plenty of breaks!), any competent mechanic could do the belt no problem, they're a nice job actually, unless you drop something you can do it all from the top, just jack it up or use a ramp to save your backache!! Get the mechanic to follow the instructions from Autodata, you need to measure then compress and lock the tensioner for reassembly, but it's really straightforward, so much nicer than most front-wheel drive cars when the cambelt is all squished down against the inner wing! I've never removed the radiators, just drain the coolant (replace with genuine Toyota red coolant) otherwise you disturb the gearbox cooler pipes, japaneese radiators can get quite fragile over the years, check the condition of the water pump and idlers, a friend who's a technician at our local Lexus dealer guaranteed I wouldn't need to change any of them....he was right, they all felt absolutely perfect, there really would have been no point. If I can give any more advice feel free to ask, I think the genuine belt which comes with reminder sticker and enough coolant (10 litres I think) came to around £50 trade, but it won't be much more retail I think they gave me about 8-9% off!
  2. Thanks so much for taking the time to create this tutorial and blog, my bulbs are fine at the mo but if they go this will be invauable! Cheers, great post. Paul M 1998 'S' LS series 4
  3. I've used MK3 vw golf tailgate struts on two MK3 LS400's so far so are bound to fit a MK4 as well, just grab the ball fixings off the scrap car you get the struts off, if the golf ones hold the boot up with the glass in then they should hold your bonnet up easily, I think one time I did it just one golf strut held my bonnet up! they seem stronger and lift it slightly highter too.
  4. Hi Gary If your window has just packed up but you can hear it trying, you could try removing the door trim and making sure it's not just stuck, I sell quite a few later Rav4's and I've had this on a couple of them, all I've had to do is loosen the fixings for the motor/regulator to the door, wiggle the glass, operate the motor then retighten the bolts. Always seems to fix it. Otherwise it could be the master switch or of course wiring. Peugeot 306's etc really suffer from broken wires into the drivers door by the hinge, I've had Audi A4's with bad earths on the back doors to. Good luck Paul
  5. I've had a 95 mk3 64k, a 97 mk3 68k and I've now got a 98 mk4 88k, loved everyone! :D
  6. Hi everyone, I just thought I ought a post a huge thankyou to Chris Vince and this Lexus Forum. I delivered my '95 MK3 LS400 dash to Chris this afternoon, and within the hour my dim Rev counter needle was repaired and shining brightly! It's unusual to find such a lovely bloke who's so helpful, who spent so long working out a cost effective fix for a common fault but then doesn't charge the earth to help others! Chris was happy to remove the dash and do the whole job for the same price however it was easier for me to remove it and drop it off. It's thanks to this forum that I heard about Chris's expertise. Cheers Chris, top man!
