  1. have you ever driven that same road journey before and experienced the traffic and road conditions ? Maybe you're in the middle of the trip ! Malc
  2. not sure I'm up to all that puffing and lifting either ........ let the strain go where it can be coped with ............. good to have neighbours sometimes Malc
  3. Percy hi, no, my ABS didn't get affected at all thankfully and tbh you're actually only 82 years young ............ Malc
  4. but sadly I think one is encouraged to PAY for the privilege Malc
  5. on a 20 year old car it's very likely just the brake pad sensor mine played-up the other day and I just knew everything was fine with the brakes themselves, new pads and discs at the front 13k miles ago, new rear pads 8k miles ago and the fluid in the reservoir was fine too .. and it had a fresh MOT in December too anyway, down to my indy who checked the fronts ... all ok the rears, the pads worn down and the sensor definitely misreading ( that happened about 15 years ago to me too on an earlier Ls400 ) so chopped off the sensor ( that's ok on older cars it seems ) redid the connection thingy so it doesn't reappear on the dash as a red fault .. and replaced the rear pads too BUT also seen the rear calipers sticking on the offside and seized ( down to salt and crap on our amazing roads ) on the nearside so down to overhauling those to make them fine and dandy for another good few 000 miles as these were last overhauled some 35k miles before .. just labour content, dismantling and cleaning up etc so best get them checked out by your friendly indy mechanic I guess Malc
  6. enjoy your amazing trip, nothing better than a good trip to and around Scotland when there's not too much traffic AND for heavens sake please don't worry about the fuel consumption, you're on holiday Malc
  7. not entirely relevant BUT guys, just tried ordering Falken tyres for the Honda Legend, 2 for the rear to match the 2 new fronts put on a few months back AND bugger this, ......................... nearly unavailable due to supplies from Asia becoming scarce getting them sorted at the local Halfords on Tuesday afternoon, they assure me they have them ok ( and I would never usually use Halfords, just that my local indy just cannot source them at this time ) so if you need tyres be aware of a potential shortage appearing any day soon Malc
  8. well done, you WILL have many years of brilliant motoring with your new limo Malc
  9. yes .............. to put it simply certain Ls400 s have air but very few in the UK The Ls 430 always has air ( I presume, but then again I think I read somewhere that a very few don't ! ) and whilst air struts have much longevity a replacement corner from Lexus / Toyota is about £1000 a corner plus fitting and quite enough to upset one's budgeting maybe whichever you choose, and for heaven's sake you MUST choose one, or maybe two you should remember that these are now very old cars in car technology terms and resemble the ancient " mores " of old with sublime comfort and grace when motoring .......... and the very best of old technology with resilient comfort, reliability and quality of presence Malc
  10. it's the lack of air suspension that sways me all the time towards the Ls400 ( in the Uk coz some did have air elsewhere ) Malc
  11. my experience after buying original Lexus / Toyota rubbers for decades ( 2 in fact ) I found the last set had a very limited lifespan, less than a year for sure ........... they used to last 2/3 years and 20/30k miles I think the reason for this is simply age related ............ original rubbers, kept on the shelf since year 2000 or so might actually deteriorate prematurely in their packs I'm guessing my size might only fit my car / Ls400s I'm now just using the cheapy rubbers that my indy puts on every year or more ( slightly ) and cost about £8 a set from his factor Malc
  12. less toys and gimmicks on the Ls400 and therefor less to go wrong one perceives ! If you get a good Ls430 with all the known issues sorted, or better still, get one that needs the issues sorted coz then you will know they have been done by yourself, then you will have a brilliant car that will cost you a fraction of your Audi S3 to maintain and will last you for very many incredibly comfortable and reliable motoring years There's a mountain of useful info on this forum, just delve into it ........ all participants here would recommend your move to here AND Welcome Malc
  13. on who does the feedback for sure ! Malc
  14. if that is the piece of kit at the front end of the bonnet area then a replacement is I think @£4,000 .... or it was a coupe of years ago when my son-in-law was repairing / respraying a frontender on a Ls600 ................ total bill was @£7000 incl that radar sensor thingy Malc
  15. but it's far from original and a no no for me whatever the price those aren't original wheels nor lenses ( being clear ) for the purist who wants a fantastic original car ( and believe me these buff up well with a good deal of spit and polish ) there's probably an original one out there with the same low mileage and at half the price BUT it's your choice and money to spend for sure Malc
  16. maybe so, but reality is such that in my own personal experience a few years ago when my car was vandalised to write-off and I believed i knew the culprit the police were just so so reluctant to even go interview that person,..............., certainly not even to visit me It took them about 3 months to actually take it on board to visit the criminal, who had prior and actually is in prison right now for all sorts Car crime is so low down on their agenda that it really doesn't feature at all as worthy of investigation The insurers pick up the tab .. it's a no cost / no loss to society crime to them I believe .... unless the insurance company itself instructs them and there's huge reluctance to do that for sure .... the insurers want a quiet life and only pursue significant issues .. and car loss just isn't one of those I fear unfortunate and impossible as it may seem, that's the reality right now ( and back then ) Malc
  17. I think the " car being stolen " is a no no for the police to attend ....................I imagine they see it as a " no loss " crime, just the insurers paying-up and the police have much more important issues to attend to in all fairness Malc
  18. But if ever you have the misfortune to be involved in a claim you will find out just how much CRAP they really, as a Group, can be Malc
  19. and if you had heard the noise, phoned the police immediately I wonder how soon they would have been able to appear ........................ ? NOW in India, the usual methodology is for the locals to take hold of the miscreants, give them a good thrashing, then phone the police who then give them a good thrashing too, then take them to the prison cells and court later . for a criminal conviction Nothing but praise all round in the press and public for the thrashings Malc
  20. us " long in the tooth " and long standing V8 owners see these typical mpg's too, and up to the early 30's on really really good runs sometimes Guess the Lexus / Toyota V8's are good at carrying these heavy loads around in some really economic fashion ... and with some aged engines too, mines 228k miles and nigh on 25 years young It's what we've come to expect Long live the Toyota V8 Malc
  21. just had the 2 new front Falkens fitted and the date on them is week 13 in 2019 ................. so a brand new pressing Oponeo £66 each plus their dedicated fitter at £12 to incl valve balance plus tyre disposal @£2 each all plus VAT total £33.60 for the two ..............so that's £ 82.80 each wheel all-up I'll go get the fronts re-laser aligned quite soon to be on the safe side ......... they feel more comfy a drive than the Maxxis All Seasons they replace Malc
  22. just an update on this today red warning light on dash for brakes, rear sensor a bit iffy it seems but rear pads are down a lot so now changed and the sensor " fixed " and the calipers freed-off again. Nearside quite seized it seems and very rusty, lucky the sliders didn't snap in the process, well corroded and probably from all the salt on our roads Thinking to order up new sliders but not sure where from, probably Lexus but wondering what the £££ might be .......... let's see how this pans out ! Brakes now working functioning fully and in fine fettle Malc
  23. you have an old car with an old fashioned engine gearbox and diff I would be inclined to use oils exactly what's stated in the manual I know with my even more ancient car and wear at 228k miles my indy will never use fully synthetic engine oil as it just won't keep the car in fine fettle he assures me Just my thoughts Malc
