  1. hey everyone The Toyota Mirai is the hydrogen fuelled vehicle now in operation ( so I read ) with the London police with refuelling at Hendon, Swindon and Heathrow 300 miles between refuelling and the technology is good and proper and works out per mile the same as ordinary fuel it seems The Mirai is available at about £65k in the UK but Toyota would rather you rent it at £750 a month all-up incl tyres etc The cars are in their infancy, this is akin to the Avensis Japan is going over to this fuel it seems with the opportunity for ease of mass refuelling points refuel with hydrogen fuel and the car running eats the air and the contaminants, CO2 within in it and emits, well, water This seems to me, and Toyota, and Japan the way to go Just waiting for BP, Esso, Shell etc to roll out the refuelling points now i guess Electric and Hybrid and Petrol and Diesel are dead, long live the new amazing contamination free Mirai .... wonder when it's going to be Lexus branded eh ! Malc
  2. I remember in Italy, the Dolomites in April and there are rules specifically about one MUST HAVE winter stuff before a certain date in April thereafter it's usually sunny and clean and dry The Alps though are quite vast and approached from several angles including always snowy ones I think Malc
  3. I'm thinking it depends which part of the Alps you are travelling to and through Might not be any snow or ice at all in April Have you checked this out yet ? Malc
  4. if performance is " normal " then it's a bit too far to just scrap her ! if it really is " normal " then if an auto electrician can't fix it and if no one on here can suggest the answer ........... might i just think aloud that when she goes for the MOT that your indy mechanic dealing with the MOT ensures the " light " is reading normal at that moment in time and you live with it in between MOTs Malc
  5. My Mk3 Ls400 fills that criteria for sure .......... simplicity itself, driveability, reliability AND availability of simple cost effective spares ............ incl a £4.50 headlamp bulb every 20 years or so Malc
  6. but might that really cover fair wear and tear as in, bulbs don't last forever .............. what's the expected life of such a bulb I wonder and the ease of the warranty insurance company NOT paying out for a replacement Oh by the way, mine's about £4.50 and a 5 min job AND is sufficient for driving for both the driver and others on the road too methinks ...... going onto main beam where necessary, or is that just too old fashioned and challenging to do Malc
  7. blimey, is that the cost of the overnight " tooth fairy " these days ? my grandchildren must be oh so wealthy by now ..... and the parents immeasurably poorer, they say it costs £250,000 a child to bring up, didn't realise £000s was for teeth alone Malc
  8. Well well well about my full quote above .. ( not just the extract ) so how's this all going to work out in 2035 now with Hybrid, Petrol and Diesel cars being forbidden to be sold new in the UK ? All electric possibly BUT I ask, what's the infrastructure carbon footprint to install zillions ( well millions ) of electric charging points across the nation AND of course, what's the carbon footprint to create all that electricity and other infrastructure to feed those charging points ............ I'm assuming that the CO2 cost analysis has of course already been done by some clever person somewhere in UK Govt that's brought about the latest wisdom from No.10 Any thoughts guys ? Malc is anyone here that clever
  9. Peter, my ancient exhaust is built like a centurion tank apart from the Y section ends and the flanges isn't yours the same ? , the age of the Ls400 and mileage belies the fact that the original exhaust will definitely outlast the car Malc
  10. and maybe a super dooopa valet ? Malc I hope these issues are really really exceptional coz if not then where on earth has the Lexus seal of quality vanished to
  11. ah............. the power of keeping-up with the GS-F club eh ! £400 replacement glass on the 12 y/o Honda Legend seemed daft to me when £20 would do Malc
  12. hopefully your insurance cover will help you stop worrying and leave it to the expert fitter company whichever is gifted to you, to replace if you've got to replace it yourself then yes, a valid question if you're paying out a few £00 to sort it out Malc
  13. as you now have an ageing car would you want to know my source of cut to your template replacement glass alone, to maybe stick over existing not dimming nor heated but only @£20 delivered in 2018 for my Honda Legend Malc
  14. my neighbour's found the way to NOT spend too much on running his Bentley He's had them for years and years, this current one is a 2010 on his private plate Does about 2k miles a year ..... what a waste eh ! He has other cars too that are possibly more expensive to actually run Malc
  15. and you will need all the " real " paperwork stuff when and if you come to sell privately as the dealers seem to hide behind GDPR in NOT making any of this available to your new private purchaser ! Malc
  16. she has a fur coat and a wrap too ... she needs warmth from a woodburner ? ..... or is it really just you needing that filthy polluting heat ? anyone would think it's winter in the UK Malc
  17. remember there's always one or two quite good looking Ls600s for similar money too Malc
  18. with the cambelt change on 11-08-11 at Lexus Poole it might be that they would have a computer record of that and let you have or see a copy ? I'm assuming it was done at that 73k mile service there then it's not due until 10 years / 100k miles on from there .. wonder if the waterpump was changed too at that time ! good luck with your decision Malc
  19. sounds like one of the bulbs has a little problem loose filament ( do they have filaments these days ? ) change one or both maybe ....................... as above Malc
  20. there's a fair bit mentioned in a November post I started about the choices between Ls400/430/460 and 600, might be some things in there that will help a little Malc
  21. sounds a sensible option and it probably won't be hugely expensive just factor in serpentine belt change and antifreeze too Malc
  22. I bought a brand new Hillman Imp in 1969 .. AYL273H ............. the very first of the hatchbacks ?? now about 20 years with Ls400s .... Malc
  23. if you wanted to just replace the glass itself, non heated though and just to stick-on over the existing then I have a good contact and will cut to your template Cost @£20 2 years ago for my Honda Legend, Honda too wanted an eye-watering sum for the glass alone, stupid money Malc
