  1. Hi I am of a certain age also but a fan of only fools and horses Its a generation thing . In this episode Trigger boasts about his broom ,has a photo and pronounces it is 20 years old and only had 17 heads and 14 handles ,as part of the comedy he called Del Boy Dave so the conversation continued 20 years is along time Dave well its 2 decades I wouldn't go that far RIP Roger
  2. Just a heads up if you are worried about your battery performance now winter is here .My varta 068 has tested out at 70% after 5 1/2 years so I thought it would be prudent to check prices . Car Parts 4 less has a 25% off cyber week offer at present on most but not all batteries . I have purchased a Bosch replacement at £73.50 which at present is the best price I can find and a good reduction. Hope this helps Dave
  3. Hi goodyears should not give problems ,I am a fan of these myself ; my next move would be a 2 nd opinion on wheel alignment and balance .I have had problems in the past with tyre places not capable of doing a proper job .Look on the Align my Car website to find a specialist close to you ,they usually have Hunter equipment and also know how to use it !! good luck Dave
  4. Hi I have been impressed with Good year asymmetric 5 on the IS 250 and I propose to replace with the same ;I have found the company Black circles prices very competitive ;with regard to alignment ,I use the web site Align my car which will give you specialists in your area. A question for Bob if I may ,my TPMS senders are still original from 2011 so I will look to replacing while the tyres are off but I am led to believe that the Lexus units need to be reset by Lexus ,did you find this or was there a cheaper alternative ? if so what cost was added to the bill ? Regards Dave
  5. HI well done , in my opinion the car should be returned in the same condition after this work as it was when you gave it to lexus ,I hope an acceptable result is reached especially as these dealers are supposed to be top class .In all fairness my recall was carried out by Lexus Bolton and was a first class job and has not presented any problems relating to this work .I had to listen to the usual disbelief that I was capable of DIY maintenance of the car without any main dealer assistance since the 3 year warranty expired .They carried out numerous free checks video inspections etc but could find no problems ,a good result for me including coffee and biscuits FOC Good luck Dave
  6. Hi Dan I have recently fitted new discs and pads to mine ;that does not seem much different to the ones I fitted ,they leave about 9 m/m clear unswept as did the ones I replaced ,what year is the Lexus ,that looks like the later model with vented discs ,same as mine ,I think they are OK but its worth asking the question of the garage for your peace of mind Dave
  7. HI your sat nav system appears to be the same as mine; it is all contained in the hard drive unit ,this means a dealer will have to update it using a computer or memory stick .I tried to have this done a few years ago but the Lexus technician could not get it to work .They have recently informed me that updates are no longer available ,the price originally was £175 so you can do what I have done and put this money towards a new tom tom with the ability for free updates which can now be carried out over the wi fi Regards Dave
  8. Hi I am also a fan of Goodyear Asymmetric ,just replaced worn goodyears with a new set Quieter than most and do not lose grip towards end of life like Dunlops I have had Dave
  9. Interesting comparisons ,my two pennyworth I have run an IS250C and a MX5 for years chalk and cheese ! MX5 is brilliant and is a sports car I have had 4 IS250 is a cruiser in the sunshine with our advancing years my wife wanting more comfort also saw Last Tango in Halifax ,and said we should have one of those. We could not find the Messa red so bought a metallic blue one We have had it almost. 8 years it is well built and reliable ,I carry out all the work and it wants for nothing .The rear seats are small not a true 4 seater .Have a test drive and see what you think compared to the SC 430 which does not float my boat.I now have to make a big decision ;I don't need 2 cars so I must think about selling 1 which one the MX5 or the Lexus ?
  10. Hi I am in agreement with Rowley ,this time of the year is the most expensive to purchase the convertible and this car is well below current dealer level ,there must be a reason ;its shabby and higher mileage as these cars are often 2 nd cars ;I would say keep looking unless you fancy spending quite a lot extra to Bring it up to scratch Dave
  11. Hi I don't wish to be too controversial on this matter ,most people have their own views and feel lights do help .I have spent over 50 years driving cars and riding motor cycles including training motor cyclists ,the only factual figures I have seen was when trials were made in the states on motor cycles some years ago ,when in a few states the accident rate went up reason ? the riders were lulled into a false sense of security assuming their lights would be seen. Have your lights on if you wish but to stay safe remember you can be lit up like a Xmas tree but if the other driver is not looking YOU WILL NOT BE SEEN Stay safe Dave
  12. Hi if you check on E bay ,seat covers for the 250c seem to be available from Richmond Auto upholstery Texas E bay item number 325203654895 is one. It might be worth contacting them ref UK drivers side as their drivers side option will be LHD £205 plus postage Regards Dave
  13. If you are happy with everything you have assembled then it could be a faulty calliper, which is why I asked if callipers were reconditioned .I have seen this with reconditioned calliper but not a new one Dave
  14. O K only thing I would now suggest is foot brake seized or sticking ,In my experience if the brake is never used it can stick ,Try backing off the adjustment and operating it 30-40 times see if it is any better Dave
  15. Strange one when new parts have been used .Are the callipers new or refurbished ? could be a faulty calliper . Ideas. I would remove pads ,check for excess paint or burrs on back plates where they fit into the calliper , re bleed calliper ,push piston fully back with clamp or retraction tool a couple of times to ensure it is free ( use a block of wood to prevent piston popping out ) check the handbrake action is O K and smooth and the shoes are not dragging .If this is all O K I would look to replacing the flexible hose ,as the bore may be restricted Dave
  16. Great to see the car looked after properly ;I agree with you the IS250 is a reliable car well worth keeping and lasting well with regular maintenance ,I have had mine 8 years and I don't know what I would replace it with .I find it strange that a garage changed the pads and discs and did not clean out the inside of the hub and reset the handbrake to the required clearance ,if you are sure the discs are new which would have needed their removal I would not be taking the car there again for any work as their standard appears below industry standards Dave
  17. Hi Steve ,well done on adjusting the parking brake if you have not done it before ,it is as you have described and as in your case usually quite straight forward. All I would add ,especially for someone who has not done it before is you may find the calliper pins seized ,this is common and can vary from difficult to well nigh impossible to move depending on previous maintenance. Also some wear may occur to the drum which means a ridge forms making the drum difficult to remove you will need to back off the adjustment first before removing the drum ,do not use too much force to lever the drum off or the spring and pin mountings for the shoes will be damaged .as well as your clean up you also have the opportunity to grease the slider pins to prevent seizures. This is common and well documented on here Dave
  18. Hi as previously said ,a very good car ,probably the best car I have ever had.Had mine over 7 years and will really struggle to find a replacement.Mine runs like a Swiss watch and as a retired engineer I do all my own maintenance so I know its done correctly .Some issues can occur with the roof but it is mostly micro switches ,the problem is finding a good electrician to sort it .Practically it is a great car to drive ,a great cruiser for the summer ;not a sports car (I had my MX 5 for that) Down side ,cramped rear seats ,small boot with the hood down ,SEL if possible but the sat nav on the latest HDD models can no longer be updated ,not a real problem. This is the best time to buy before the sun comes out ;you may have to travel for the right car but there are still some nice ones about ,good luck keep us informed on your progress Dave
  19. HI I think it should be O K if the sensor is taped up out of harms way ,it appears from your pictures that you have the correct 068 battery fitted Bosch S4026 Dave
  20. Hi my car does not have a battery cover as such ,it has an open frame all round which is held by the clamps in your drawing .The inner facing side of the case has a wired sender attached to the side which I believe is to monitor the battery if overheating occurs ,this can be awkward when replacing the battery so perhaps it has been left off when this was done.If your battery is not a Panasonic it has probably been replaced .The terminals have their own cover Dave
  21. Hi John I was disappointed with the dip beam performance on the 250C according to the hand book bulbs are HID Discharge or 55W H11 halogen .I contacted Lexus parts direct who said they are H I D discharge on mine ,but my car is the later model Think yours will be 55w H11 halogen but check as advised.I replaced with Osram Xenarc blue intense try A B D .co.uk Dave
  22. Funny things private plates most people either love them or hate them , I have an Irish plate on the Lexus ,only time I have had this type of plate ,people regularly ask about the car (being convertible) age etc; The reason for this is it was originally registered in Belfast and when I bought it the dealer said if it bothered me it would cost me £300 for an age related plate to be fitted I Declined his offer .With relation to how long will it last ,it's nearly 12 years old now gets light use and I maintain it fastidiously ,I'm hoping for at least 20 years before break even and repair value ,besides I haven't a clue what to replace it with on my budget Dave
  23. Hi ,I agree with the above replies , my 250C has not been re programmed to set this facility so the windows do not operate in this way.I suggest you try the press and hold to see if yours works in this way ,because if it does not the problem must lie elsewhere Regards Dave
  24. Hi check E bay item 251936471908 Lexus dealer Snows group west black £100 Dave
  25. Hi as Bilal says this is the most permanent solution ,If you want to retain the compressor it is quite easy to strip the unit down remove and dispose of the sealant ,re-route the hoses and then it can be used as a compressor only .Buy a tin of sealant from your local accessory shop if you need one. My experience of sealer is that is good for a small screw or nail repair but no good for anything bigger and most tyre people do not want to wash out the sealer to vulcanise a patch on the inside ,so will scrap a tyre Dave
