  1. Well I've just spent the afternoon taking out the starter motor, stripping it down cleaning it up and repositioned the solenoid contacts. Put it back on the car and works on the button every time!! Started car about 12 times now, been for a drive to get everything hot and it starts perfectly. Now Im one happy chap that needs a pint (or two)!! Thanks for the help guys. Have you tried cleaning the earth connections on both vehicles? Simple to do and often overlooked. I think you may have a bad electrical connection somewhere.
  2. I need to order the the throttle body gasket for my GS300, I am changing the spark plugs soon. Does anyone know a good online parts supplier I can use? I tried Lexus parts direct but they have ignored my email. Ebay is no good either. Trouble is I am out in Italy working at the moment and there is no Lexus dealer near me. So would prefer to order one and have it posted. Any ideas anyone...
  3. Hi Bill, I've not read anything about setting the correct height for the contacts? How do I do that? To be honest I didnt test it when it was out. The contacts looked really worn out and I dont have a vice to test it in! Looks like im going to have spill more blood removing the damn thing!!!
  4. Hi, ok Im having problems with starting my car. It is a mk1 GS300 1995. Every turn of the key it would just simply click, the engine does not turn over and then after a few more clicks eventually it would turn over and start. Sometimes it fires straight away. I have read on here the starter is the most likely cause so I ordered the repair kit for the solenoid and replaced the copper contacts etc,, I have to say I couldnt have done this without following the great advice found on here. So thanks everyone who posted something constructive on that topic! All I can say is patience is definitely needed and be prepared to spill some blood sweat and tears!!! Anyway I put it all back together and it is no better. Every time the key is turned you can physically feel the starter relay click and feel the starter motor clicking. Although I have noticed the relay flashes / sparks internally, you see a a flash through the plastic is that normal? So im presuming the ignition switch, relay and starter is ok. It is also a new battery on the car and fully charged. I cleaned up the earth connection bolted to the inner wing too. So really need to pick your brains and see what you all recommend what I should do next.... Thanks in advance for any advice!
  5. I visited a few breakers at the weekend, after the third one laughed shaking their head at me for asking if they had any Lexus's in the yard. I asked why, I was told scrap yards just dont receive that type of car! So I'd love to know where they all end up...
  6. Over the past few days the car has developed a rather scary habit, the back end seems to sway out causing the car to drift and snake a little. Havent changed over the stuts yet due to not having time. There is no knocking or clunking from anywhere, had a quick look round and cannot see anything obvious, is there a way of testing the bushes and joints to determine what is causing it? Also can anyone supply the correct settings for the geometry set up with normal suspension? I can then give this to the garage here for reference. Thanks in advance!
  7. Thanks Tigerfish for the confirmation. I presume any garage can set up the Geometry for me?
  8. Hi, I'm from the UK just working over here. So it's a UK spec car. The rear wheels are cambered in and eat up the inside edge of the tyres. Apparently this is a consequence of fitting the sport suspension? So I was told anyway! Plus I want a more comfortable ride! Although I agree it does look good at the mo!
  9. Well Hello! My first post on here and hoping someone can give me some sound advice!! I've just bought my first Lexus, a GS300 built 1995. Knowing very little about these cars I need rack your brains!! First off the car is a standard 3.0 auto GS300. The owner before me decided to fit the proper Lexus sports shock absorbers and springs. He kept the original suspension units and has given them to me when I bought the car. My question is this, I want to put the car back on it's original suspension. Is it a straight swap of each strut and job done or is it more involved? Obviously the geometry will need to be set up when they are changed over. Thanks for any advice.
