  1. I'd be interested in this topic, the Lexus agent told me to forget about ECO settings. I must try a tank on each setting. Certainly nicer to drive without ECO...
  2. Hi, I've had my 2010 RX450SEI for just over a month now and unfortunately it coincided with a bad back not allowing me to get to know it other than through the user manuals. One thing is driving me wild are the rattles. The two worst are the rear seat and the hard plastic trim around the rear hatch. Has anyone ever removed the hard plastic surround at the hatch window? I want to remove it to place felt around the seal, I'm certain that will help a lot. I read on the US site about stuffing towels at the rear seat, presumably to muffle the creaking from the complex seat mechanism (Reclining and a 40 20 40 split). They talk about wedging in 3 bath towels, I can just about get 3 hand towels under the rear seat! Knowing Americans their bath towels will be the size of tents, what am I doing wrong!!!! Any info most welcome. Bought it from Glasgow Lexus and when i asked them to investigate they said they did what they could but it was a six year old car. My 2005 Lexus Sportcross never squeaked or rattled once until it was written off in 2014! This thing is like a 1970s Fiat. Thanks Ed
  3. I have a 2010 SEi and EV mode is selected via a menu on the steering wheel, it's just a faff having it there.
  4. Thanks a lot Paul, I was beginning to think I was missing something. Think I'll just leave it in 'Normal' mode. Great forum for owners new to the RX range.
  5. Hi guys, I'm a bit confused here regarding the driving modes. I have a 2010 Sei, there is the option of Eco mode and normal mode. Is Sport mode when you shift to the gear lever to manually hold gears? We have a CT200h and that has a sport mode but as far as I can see the RX doesnt? Am I missing something??? Also, is ECO mode a waste of time, the salesman told me just to leave it in normal mode, eco was a waste of time. Glad to hear your thoughts. Ed
  6. Oh dear, that sounds a bit of a sore one. Hopefully someone on this forum could tell you how feasible a second hand one would be. Can't believe how technology has marched on and that a steering column needs coded to a car. The price of technology. I've just bought my 2010, I think I will spring for an additional 2 year warranty for £1000, it may well be a good investment. Really hope you get a reasonable quote to fix it. Ed
  7. On Saturday I fitted a dash cam to my 2010 RX450 , I didn't hardwire it, I just used the 12v socket hidden away under the armrest (bloody silly place to have your sockets BTW) I just fed the wire under the passenger mat and teased the cable around the door trim. At the a pillar I managed to open it slightly without removing it and am very pleased with the results. My model is the SEi and I note some models had a 12v outlet in the storage area under the gear lever which would have been even neater. Hope this helps. Ed
  8. Thanks everyone for the replies, a great forum. As much talk there is about Cross Climates the Avon deal looks a winner. Rayaan's a top contributor and seems well versed, an engineer?
  9. Sorcerer, the trouble with using the manufacturer specs is there are two settings, 33 (ECO, whatever that is) or 36? I'd choose the one to maximise tyre life.
  10. I'm contemplating on a set of Michelin Cross Climates though at £800 it's a serious investment. I have no issues with ride quality or mpg, i just want them to last as long as possible. 34psi or higher for maximising tyre life Gentlemen? Mind you, the Avons as described above are half the price????? Where do you get a discount code???
  11. Hi, I have a2009 RX450 and i replaced the puddle bulbs with LED projector bulbs today, and just the same experience as you, drivers side flickered and went off, the passenger side was fine. Hmmm. Did you ever find a solution? Ed
  12. My old Honda CRV came up with the same message and i was directed to a company who sold me a a disc/dvd cleaning disc, it worked for me, it was circa £10 from Amazon. Not too much to lose. I understand the laser gets clogged and this can be the solution. I am sure there were companies who will take it apart and repair it for a lot less . Good luck
  13. I've read his info over the years, often followed his advice and never been let down. He is independent, though he does seem to be on an anti VAG crusade at the moment and doesn't appear to have an axe to grind. Why would you slavishly follow the manufacturers handbook?, it is healthy to question things you know. Do you do everything you're told?
  14. I generally think his advice is spot on. I would reduce pressure by 4psi (measured cold) as they will run at the correct pressure when heated up.On my RX450h FWIW I think setting them cold at 32psi would be a reasonable solution.
  15. Fantastic Result, well done, horrible time of yeasr to be messing around the undersides of cars.Very interesting problem and nice solution saving you a fortune. Ed
  16. Can't agree with you more on the subject of mydflaps. I gather manufacturers omit them to make them as slippery as possible to maximise mpg and emissions figures, i just picked up my RX450 (2010SEi) and will order some to protect paintwork and as a courtesy to following motorists. Suspectt hey will cost a fortune from Lexus, will order some from China at a quarter of the price.
  17. That's a good point, still my younger days of racing around are well behind me, i prefer calm and comfort nowadays. Boot will also carry 4 beehives, I have checked! I never quite get road testers who complain one car is a half second slowerround a circuit than another, TBH, who the heck can take a car to thje limit in this day and age. Nearly every car made today is actually pretty amazing compared to the cars i grew up with. Best car I have ever owned in 40 years of driving was my Lexus IS300 Sportcross, if this RX can come close I will have won the lottery. My C Cl;***** estate was not a bad car, did everything well, it just didn't do anything for me, i just love my wife's CT200h despite all the press hype. I pick my new car up today, am now in a state of high excitement. All the best for 2017. Ed in Glasgow
  18. Happy Christmas from me too, I'm just about to chop in my C Class Estate for a 2010 RX450h SEi. Getting very excited. Will be a nice contrast to my wife's CT200H. Lots to learn about the car, I'm sure it will knock the Merc into a corner. Ed
  19. Hi, not white but i would give it a good home! Ed in Glasgow
  20. I have them on my Merc, they made a great impression after the original Bridgestones, much quieter and a definitely improved ride, I'll fit them to the CT when my tyres are finished.
  21. Just a brief update, a week in and I have to report it's working really well with little cut off and generally excellent reception. Just a bit annoying to have the aux cable so obvious, i do like a neat finish. Wonder if another aux in could be wired in somewhere discreetly?
  22. I inderstand the aux cable becomes the antennae, whatever, it works well so far. Bigger drive today so keen to see how it performs, I'll let you know.
  23. Well, today i received a Pure 2500 pocket dab radio, connected it to the aux output and received crystal clear DAB reception between Glasgow and Gourock. Radio costs £53 at Amazon, £3 for an aux cable. I'm delighted with the result. Gives you an option anyway. Ed in Glasgow
  24. Possibly simple, you haven't nudged the child locks on? Easily done. It's just ahead of the four switches and turns to left or right from memory??
  25. I would second Michelin Cross Climate, fantastic tyres and incredibly quiet. Don't tear around the roads so tyre wear not evident yet however reports on wear seem very positive.
