  1. Thanks for the information the complete housing was replaced by the dealer shortly after I bought the car 2 years ago so you wouldn't expect it to fail again, the (perhaps short term ) answer appears to be to superglue the gaiter to its surround and hopefully save £60. A very poor piece of design it would seem but thanks again
  2. Does anybody know how the gear shift gaiter fits? Mine has come loose and efforts by several people manage to get it apparently clipped back in but as soon as the lever is moved it comes back out again - there don't appear to be any clips to hold it in place Any suggestions gladly welcomed
  3. Just a note in case anyone's about to renew tyres, I've just replaced the Bridgestones with Kuhmo Ecsta LE Sports and the difference in ride comfort is noticeable but the road holding is just as good. In these hard times they are also substantially cheaper, Hope that helps
  4. The new set are on order and due to be fitted next week, I suggest you mention being a member of the club and have noticed all the reports about this being a common problem,It seemed to work for me and I think it must be because the dealership didn't argue and neither did Lexus. Pity they weren't so accommodating when it came to the cost of replacing the EGR valve, apparently another common problem.
  5. Having kicked this issue off I'm pleased to say that having taken the car back to the Dealership I bought it from they photographed the wheels and e mailed them to Lexus who have agreed to replace all 4 and asked me for a £150 contribution which after 5 years is I think, fair enough although I still feel they should never have been like that in the first place. The dealer said it was due to the salt put on British roads, my reply that if that was the case all alloys would look like mine didn't get a reply
  6. Hi I've just posted my experiences of this problem and then came across your topic. Without repeating the saga which is now under the engine section of this club basically if you get this problem you are on your own, Lexus would not contribute although it's obvious from the posts this is a well known issue, only Lexus dealers have the necessary software which might. just might, trick the engine into regeneration. Forget comments on the warranty it's 60,000 miles or 3 years whichever comes first and that's it. Personally I think a car that will tell you the boot is open should be able to tell you there's a problem with the engine before it gets to the point of expensive repairs, but then I'm naive - I bought a Lexus and thought it would be a reliable car!
  7. My 220d suffered the dreaded problem a couple of weeks ago, the engine management light and ASC light came on and the engine went into limp mode,After paying for a test to show up the real problem I was advised, as others, to try going on the motorway for 30 miles at a steady 2,000rpm to start auto regeneration. That didn't work, I just had a frightening drive constantly having to pull onto the hard shoulder, switch off and start again. The garage said only Lexus dealers had the software so back to the main dealer I had bought from it went, they said the EGR valve had failed and needed replacing , the manifold was sooted up and had to be cleaned, Fortunately the DPF was OK but the bill was still £1,500. I don't expect that on a car less than 5 years old and only 46K on the clock. I complained to Lexus but they refused, ever so politely, to consider any contribution, My complaint that had my car been a Toyota I would have been covered under the manafacturers warranty fell on deaf ears, all they would say is Lexus have a 3 year guarantee and I should have bought an extended warranty! This doesn't say much for their confidence and why, when you pay extra for the "posh Toyota", do you get an inferior guarantee - it doesn't make any sense. To rub salt in the wound my car was repaired in the adjoining Toyota delership but at the higher Lexus labour rates, the Lexus dealership doesn't have its own repair shop - do they think we don't realise there's nothing behind the fancy showroom and the servicing goes next door? This is my first and will be my last Lexus
  8. My 5 year old is220d has bad corrosion on all 4 wheels, worse at the front, this has come on gradually in the last 12 months despite regular cleaning. I've now found myself looking at the wheels on other is and have noticed quite a few with the same problem. How many people have suffered with this? is it a known problem and what's the best way of repairing at lowest cost? the car has only done 45K I'm the second owner so don't know all the cars history but the alloys were OK when I purchased 2 years ago, I'm beginning to wonder if the dealer didn't have these repaired before sale and now a bad jobs showing up. I've just seen in The Times that Toyota lost their case against inaccurate reporting when The Times said dealers covered up and did not report known faults, one of which was alloy wheel corrosion Any comments or advice would be welcomed
  9. Thanks for the feedback on the heated wipers / screen - perhaps I should be more patient and i'll try it out. Nobody's commented about the gearbox, and whether there's any "tricks" to make it less difficult, nor the road noise - i'd really like to hear from other members who may have helped / solved this by using different tyres and if so what are they?
  10. I recently changed my Jaguar S type for an 18 month old IS 220d SEL on the back of a short test drive in a similar car. When collected it looked the part and had most of the gadgets the Jag had, promised similar performance and much greater fuel efficiency (the main reason for changing). After 3 months I can only say how disappointed I am and I’d like to know from other members if the annoyances I have are common or one off to this vehicle. Some have only come to light with the recent cold weather. Road noise- this is truly awful on anything but the very smoothest tarmac and on a long run really tiring Gearbox – I read somewhere this is “borrowed” from a truck and that’s what it feels like, it seems like it should last forever but first to second is always crunch time, literally, its always notchy , as for sixth , what a farce it’s unusable at British legal speeds unless you’re going downhill Engine – noisy at low speeds and why does it “tick over” at 1200 rpm even when warm? Heater – no warmth at all for about 6 miles after starting from cold, making runs in cold weather a potentially dangerous experience with misted windows and the like Heated wipers – what use are these? I was misled by the salesman calling it a heated screen, the Jag had one even my wife’s new Fiesta has one so why this omission on a car which, new, is £30K +? And now, to cap it off, the drivers door moves on its seals over bumps in the road This is my first Lexus, I think it will be my last; I was taken in by the media hype and reliability reports. The reality is that’s it an unpleasant driving experience and one not deserving of the cars sales tag – or is it me?
