  1. had this happen on my 2013 RX. Happened on the hottest September day in recent history, and I had a 150 mile trip!! Typical. Dropped it into the dealers and they said the aluminium pipes had corroded (yes ali can corrode) on the aircon unit. Fortunately for me it was under warranty still, so a new aircon unit was installed. I understand there wasn't much change from £2k.
  2. Apparently Lexus fund an hours labour, it took about 90mins for mine
  3. Exactly Bill. But as @Spock66 says the radio silence continues
  4. 1. Apart from Lexus being responsible for the design flaw that allows the RX to top the stolen charts. Which if they PUBLICLY fixed then thieves would be deterred / unable to steal, quid pro quo reducing the risk, then premiums would follow suit. So Lexus absolutely have a major influence on insurance premiums 2. All insurance premiums are based on risk (driver / age / location / security flaws / etc) the main thing affecting rx gen4 is canbus. Rx gen 5 is encrypted, removing this risk from the calculation, hence the lower premiums. But you are correct, they will soon be economically uninsurable, and therefore worthless.
  5. Well I've been badgering Craig at Lexus CR for a while and my last email I took a chance and copied in the chief exec (Scott Thompson) - taking a guess at his email address. After about a week I got a reply (not copying in the CEO) that basically said we've fitted the protection plates for you and we are not doing anything else. The email went on and on, but it was just hot air. They even alluded to the fact that because it wasnt a safety issue DVSA will not issue a recall. They totally miss the point they can OFFER a recall to all affected owners - just like JLR. They did acknowledge they know this issue is brand and reputation damaging, but didn't seem to care! They tried to use the excuse that all insurance premiums are going up. They absolutely ignored the point I made that a BRAND NEW RX was at least £500 cheaper to insure than my 12 month old gen 4. The new one has encrypted canbus. What they seem to be totally ignorant / or choosing to ignore, is that until a public recall is issued and the design flaw remedied, then thieves will continue to target lexus vehicles, premiums for affected vehicles will rise disproportionately, resale values will plummet. Dealers must be haemorrhaging money on the used fleets they have. Anyhow, I suspect that whatever the outcome, this will be my last Lexus. The simple matter for me is that as a Lexus owner since 2007, on my 5th vehicle, they appear to have simply turned away from loyal customers and refuse to come up with a robust solution. As for this Harrig, what I really expect from a premium brand such as lexus is much much more than the unannounced sticking plaster of a solution that they have come up with. Even with the plates any attempted theft will likely leave a repair bill in the thousands.
  6. I have no idea whether they did both sides on mine last weekend, but the parts were on back order and took about a week to come into stock.
  7. Morning All, well my 2022 RX now has the canbus plates fitted as of this morning. Re insurance quotes, whilst I was sitting in the showroom a chap picked up a 73 plate RX for a 48 hour test drive. I noted the reg and have just compared quotes . My lowest quote on a £42k 2022 RX is about £950. The quote for the brand new £70k model he took out was £536. Until Lexus encrypt the can bus and publicise that, every one affected will be faced with ever increasing insurance costs. Oh and For ES owners, my dealer mentioned they had / can adapt the plates for the ES from the RX ones. Maybe if you are an ES owner you should be enquiring.
  8. @brendangeorge bit of a known issue see For mine, i got a https://www.amazon.co.uk/DRY-PURIFYTM-Dehumidifier-Deodorizer-Charcoal/dp/B01N2G842L . After a few days the rear door started working again, and continued ok until i sold the car a couple of months ago.
  9. @Cypry 1 I guess the 2010 rx is on 18’s or 19’s? Its the 20” ones that were not available. Well it looks like the cc2 are back in stock at ATS. So looks like me finding £900. Anybody wanna buy the dunlops with 7.5k miles on them - £200 for the 4, collected from S72?
  10. Thanks Len. It does that too. I tested it yesterday, gave the car a little nudge on the front wing, settings are the default medium sensor, and it recorded front and rear. I believe the battery in the camera provides the sensor power, with recording activated and drawing vehicle battery power
  11. Thanks for the couple of responses. By way of a quick update. I ended up going for the Nextbase 622GW. It does enough for what I want. I decided against having it installed by RS Connect after seeing the horror story above. Contacted Lexus Sheffield and had it installed by them for 1.5 hours labour charge for front and rear cameras, hardwired so it starts recording when the car starts. So slightly more than RS connect. They did a perfect job at the dealers, really pleased with the result.
  12. Like others I emailed CR@lexus.co.uk about Canbus thefts. I sent it late on xmas eve (there was nothing on the telly 😉 ) On the 27th I got a call from my local dealer to say the protection plates were ordered and once in stock would be fitted FOC. About an hour later, i received an email from LEXUS UK outlining the plates were ordered, recommending a 2nd immobiliser (at my cost), and basically saying they could not address all "types of attack and theft". So whilst I agree they could and should do more, they are responding somewhat. I did see that JLR have a program now to update the internal bus security for their cars that are affected. I would have though Lexus ought to be following suite and developing encryption and having a very public recall. I did suggest this to them, they never mentioned it in their response. https://media.jaguarlandrover.com/news/2023/11/jlr-invests-vehicle-security-reduce-thefts
  13. Morning All, I hope you all had a pleasant and festive Christmas. I'm in the market for a new dashcam. I don't really fancy the "Lexus" nextbase one - seems quite old / low specced, and at ~£400 fitted is pricey for what you get. I'm considering the Nextbase iQ or the 622GW - does anyone have these and what are your opinions? I'll be getting the rear cameras too. For fitting next base offer a service from RS Connect. Now I have seen this post which does put me off a bit, but I guess every company can mess up. Any positive recommendations out there for RS Connect fitting dashcams? While I'm at it, I was also thinking about hiding an apple airtag in the RX. Anyone else done this - do they work ? If it got stolen would it track? Cheers Ian
  14. @Spock66 dont really need them now, only done 6k from new. But the cc2’s are great and i get a bit nervous on summer tyres when i’m in snow. Dont see the point of spending a ton of cash on the car only to drop it for approx £900 worth of rubber. In other news, Michelin have just come back to me. The cc2 in that size is expected back in stock in Feb 2024. Looks like i’ll wait until then and take my crv out when it snows.
  15. ATS had stock last week, I was just too slow. Mailed Michelin UK CS last night I'll update if they come back. Also checked a few sites around europe and they have plenty of stock, so they don't appear to be discontinued, just not available here.
