  1. mine had done 144000 when it went,my old k reg had 225000 miles still had the original ,i did repair the usual o ring on the bottom of reservoir, the mk4 had been leaking slightly for a while, then i lost all the ps fluid on the way home one night, when the pump give up it blew a pipe off i had to manhandle it home
  2. i bought a new one from the states, from a link steve gave me,cost about £200 with shipping and import tax,my mechanic changed it in about an hour, the pump was brand new not a recon, was about £260 all in ,i would of done it myself a few years ago
  3. mike, its the 17in the falkens are difficult to get,i had to get 1 to match what was on there after a blowout ,could'nt get, any, anywhere.for the particular ones i had ,ended up buying 2 tyres,so had the same tyres on the same axle, they were about £80,i have 255/45/17 on mine
  4. sad to see you go Phil, but you have to do whats best for you,i will be selling mine soon cause im moving ,and parking will be a bit more difficult, and i hardly use it now,and its a bit of a struggle getting out of it sometimes for me,wish you all the best,at least you did'nt go quietly,
  5. full lexus service history on a basically 20 yr old car a big ask
  6. yes it does happen i done my rocker covers last year.usually if its been left a while.you get smoke on startup
  7. i don't have to do the 6 min thing on mine either,it is worth checking to see if a code has been entered on the radio, most haven't ,i think you can change it
  8. just an update really re leaking power steering pump, bought the new replacement from the states £112 plus postage approx £60,import duties/vat £59,got it within a week ,so pretty good all round, all fitted now working fine, very pleased to get it back to normal for a reasonable price
  9. there has been some old posts regarding this, you should be able to access these,,there are a couple of toothed wheels you can lubricate, pretty sure there were pictures of them on old posts, try a search
  10. thank you very much ,steve for the help and information,i will try bleeding the system again.i seem to have the steering working ok, but pump does'nt sound right, but im going to have another go at it
  11. the hose that went was a small one that comes up from rack and goes to a block of other connections, sort of under the air filter, there still seems a small leak coming around top of pump ,it was filled ok and bled ,it was making a squealy noise, quitened down a bit after bleeding, are these screens like a filter or something
  12. last week on my way home,i lost my power steering assistance, managed to get it home ,good muscle building, had to work out the straightest way home.one of the pipes had blown off the rubber joint, got it back on ,the pumps making a noise,so think the pressure may of blew the hose off, where its not working properly,so new pump required,Lexus quoted me £851! gulp.does anyone on here know where to get a replacement, cars prob only worth £1500 on a good day,so spending a £1000 plus on it,does.t make sense really, any help or advice would be appreciated.not sure if i want to take chance on second hand as its quite a bit of a job to do twice.
  13. don't know the noise, sometimes the wrong sort of wheel balance weights can be fitted in the wrong place and will rub on brake calipers ,there is very little clearance there
  14. my mk4 was first registered in 1997, i think it was nov/dec
  15. i have had mentions regarding rust on all sorts of components also,on MOT,i have had it up on a lift and its just surface discolouration really
  16. Glad you got your car back mike, you must of missed it,must of been a bit worrying at times
  17. last weekend when visiting my son,i left my car outside his house overnight, and some lowlife has keyed it or whatever they use from front to back, and not content with that, went around and done the other side as well, every time i see the car i feel so upset, none of the cars around it were done,i don't know anyone there,i suppose it looks a more exspensive car than it is,i suppose they thought i was some rich plutocrat to take their frustrations out on.i report it to police, its only minor ? damage, give you a number for insurance.and tell me these people need our help, they certainly would if i could get hold of them.i just feel so fed up and disalusioned with the car at the moment,iv just got a new mot,4 new tyres, and got a mobile guy coming round to do the bumper scuffs,he is going to see what he can do,they have all this new colour matching technology, but more exspense,i'm just gutted.at least iv got it off my chest,
  18. agree with you malc, although i did have soon guides and other things fitted to my steering rack,a few years ago, some play somewhere,i had new discs and pads at same time ,about £650 at the time, really my car costs very little to keep up together, some MOT tester seem to mention all sorts of stuff these days,,some bits seem to repair themselves in between MOTs,this year i had mentions of rust on all sorts of things,i took it to my mechanic ,he said just a bit of surface rust, sometimes these people could put the fear of ***** in to people, but i know they have to cover themselves in this day and age.
  19. strange,so pre mixed is still concentrate, very odd and confusing to call it two different names
  20. the ls400 is a wonderful old car ,unfortunately the old word is the problem for alot of people, not so many good ones about, after all the newest ls400 is 16yrs old,the obvious choice if you want something newer ,and lets face it, to be honest, something more modern, then its the 430.im sure whilst they are more complex ,not every car has a suspension failure,we only hear of the problems,on here, there are im sure lots going along without too many problems
  21. i have always been of the impression that pre-mixed means exactly that! ,already mixed, concentrate you have to dilute yourselve
  22. on my mk4 ,under the filter, there is a screw/bolt which when removed allows a flap to be pulled down ,to gain access to filter,it is not readily apparent, but there is a fold on the plastic undertray,i've used it 3 times, thou not sure about your model
  23. you get a lot more for your money with concentrate, and mix it yourself i don't know about distilled water, why would you need that
