  1. Having pondered my GS's lack of dynamic ability over the last couple of weeks, checked the suspension bushes are all in order and made several attempts to get a nice rear-wheel-drive feeling from the car, I'm wondering if there is an LSD (Limited-slip-differential) that will fit the MK1 GS300? When exiting a slow turn, it is almost impossible to get the positive feeling you get from an MX5 or BMW. In cold or damp conditions you just light up one rear wheel. Doing so just makes the thing unpredictable and discourages enthusiastic driving. So, is there an Aristo or Supra LSD I can fit?
  2. Having been messed about by 2 ebay sellers offering CD changers that they claimed work perfectly, when in reality they dont, I'm looking for a factory CD Changer for a MK1 GS300. Will happily buy it and can arrange Business Post to come and collect it from you - So you dont even have to get to the post office.
  3. Yes mate that's driving conservatively if I decide to stretch the lexuses legs I get low to mid 70miles my mates aristo jzs161 fuel consumption is compared to the gs430 driving conservatively but once you let it open it will drink as fast as the second Turbo kicks in That is really quite shocking! Is there something wrong with your car?
  4. Hi Tom. I'm not sure if this will be the same thing, but I had a similar thing last year. What ever vehicle was in our drive would sound it's alarm at around 1-2am. The cars were varied from a P reg Corsa to a nearly new Passat, Audi A2 and a brand new Renault van. We traced it back to the installation of Virgin Media wireless broadband! One night I went downstairs to let the dog out and as I passed the router, the lights started flashing, even though no one in the house was online. Seconds later the car alarm was going off. By turning off the router at night I could prevent the alarms going off. The router is a VMDG280. Virgin Media were useless and claimed there was no way it could be the cause. Our electronics guy at work tells me car interior sensors operate on the same frequencies as some Wifi adaptors. Whilst looking for similar problems I found someone on a Mazda forum who had the same issue with a Mazda 6.
  5. Thanks for the replies guys - Flexxx, did you really mean £30 gets just 80 miles around town ?
  6. Having bought a GS300 (collecting in 10 days) I've decided now would be a good time to look at the running costs! How much does it cost to fill the tank and how many miles should I expect to get from it? Also, what grade of unleaded do they prefer? My Audi's FSI engine will run on either 95 or 98 RON but is quieter on 98 (due to knock sensors etc.) I guess the GS300 engine is a little less sophisticated, but does it have a preference? I'm not interested in 0.0005 BHP gains through using a different fuel, but what to make sure I keep her happy.
  7. Just bought a GS300 which turned out to be well below what I would have spent. One owner from new, history includes every receipt and piece of paperwork related to the car - The guy even went to a Lexus dealer when the screenwash needed topping up. One recent bill is for over £2000 for suspension arms and bushes. Original purchase invoice for a cash sale of £31k is there too along with a "Welcome CD" from Lexus which is a mixture of classical music and verbal introductions to the car and the "Lexus Experience" Has been SORN since October when he decided he was too old to drive it anymore. Its covered just 13 miles since it's last MOT where new discs and pads were fitted all round. The interior needs a bit of a clean and the outside needs a clay and polish but even the alloys look brand new - Not bad for a 15 year old car, particularly one with over 180k on the clock. Two faults are 1) The electric aerial stops 2 inches from the bottom 2) Both dash needles need attention (one flickers the is dull). Collecting it next week
  8. Bit of a bump for this one fellas - Can you re-post the pictures of the LED illuminated dash?
  9. I'm going to be viewing a GS300 tomorrow where the "only problem" according to the seller is that the speedo needle doesnt light up and the rev counter needle is dim - Are these easy to change? Is it a simple bulb change? I remember having something similar on a Corsa 10 years ago and whilst it was tricky removing the instrument cluster, it was just the bulb which needed changing. I have searched the forum and found some old threads that talk about the problem but the only "fix" seems to be to send it to a bloke called Clive. However those threads are a little old now so I wondered if anyone has discovered the best method of fixing the problem. Thanks - Phil.
  10. Going to view a GS300 this weekend which is described as needing "a new amplifier". Does the GS300 head unit have a separate amplifier? If so, is it an easy fix? If not, is it easy to exchange for a head unit from another GS300 or does it need to be tied to the ECU? Can you fit an aftermarket head unit? Thanks
  11. Just been quoted £200 to change the belt and pulleys. Seems reasonable enough to me.
  12. As part of my quest to find a GS300 I've found numerous that have a good service history but nothing that particularly relates to a cambelt change. I feel I can use this as a bargaining tool when negotiating and change the belt myself afterwards. However, I dont want it to snap on the way home and cause my hundreds of pounds worth of damage! I've done a google search for this and found conflicting answers - Some one this forum and some on US forums. Is the MK1 GS300 engine "non-interference"?
  13. Are any special tools required to hold the cams in place when the belt is removed? When I changed a belt on a 1.6 Vauxhall engine a few years ago it was a simple case of aligning the markers on the 2 cam pulleys. I presume the methodology of changing it on the GS300 engine is pretty much the same? Is there a guide online somewhere?
  14. Thanks for the help, Dave. All of my questions so far have been about the same car which I've only just had a chance to view today.
