  1. Yep, I would've thought that there would have been more chat about it too Kevin. Not really sure how this will pan out in the long run. Around this area, just about every Land Rover ( all derivatives ) have had the DPF's completely removed and new pipework in place. As for the Lexus, I'm surprised that if it is still fitted, albeit without the insides, that it is failing. I know for a fact that they still pass the emissions test. I suppose that at the moment it's flavour of the month and they are really looking hard - whether that'll always be the case remains to be seen. I guess that we're not going to hear from too many folk whose vehicles have passed the MOT, as that would probably drop their garage in it.
  2. Well, judging by posts on here and other sites, my question above seems to have been answered :(
  3. Hi Gary, I've been experiencing exactly the same thing. I had to bypass the chip yesterday to take it in for the MOT and the hesitation has disappeared - so my guess is the Chip Express chip. I'll see how it goes over the next few weeks with chip bypassed - although I suspect that the fuel consumption will be worse. In my particular case, the hesitation was happening while trying to drive at a steady speed - whether 40mph, 30mph etc. Hope this helps. Richard
  4. Hi Ray, Sorry for delay. Current fuel consumption is 43.5mpg, but hasten to add that I also have a Chip Express module fitted. I have only driven short local journeys and a couple of around 90 miles. This is slightly better than I was achieving before for the same journeys although when I used to drive to Durham ( which I notice is your neck of the woods! ), I used to get about 50mpg. That is a 269 mile journey for me and have not driven there since October as my lad has returned for Christmas on the train. Overall, the car seems to be running a lot smoother. As stated in my new thread, I'm not sure what will happen when I take the car for its MOT which is due in March - after the new rules come in. Hope this helps :)
  5. Well, this seems to have put a damper on DPF removal, although not sure how it will affect cars which still have the dpf in place but its insides removed and emulator fitted? http://www.oilem.com/content/143-dpf-removal-become-mot-failure.html https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/263018/diesel-particulate-filters-guidance.pdf
  6. Hi there, It was £600 with the Manchester chaps, car running really well now.
  7. I've had exactly the same problem. I had driven from Mid Wales to Durham when the dreaded Check VSC and limp mode kicked in. Turned off engine and car would run for 5 minutes before dropping back to limp mode. To cut a very long story short, ended up on a 6 hour flatbed journey back home. The usual P2002(particulate trap efficiency below threshold bank 1) alarm was showing when interrogated. After researching here and everywhere else trying to find somewhere near that could do the job, I found these guys - http://www.ecutechtune.co.uk/. These are based in Manchester and even trailer-ed the car up there for me. Have just driven the car 150 miles back, and all I can say is that the car is going better than it ever was. Improved fuel consumption too. So if anyone is looking for someone in the North West, I can recommend these guys. Ask for James. By the way, I had tried all the "magic" additives, but when your car will only run for 5 minutes at a time, trying to get over 3k revs is nigh on impossible. Anyway, damn dpf has gone now, emulator fitted and all hunky dory!
  8. Well, here's the good news! Back out this morning to put recharged battery on, and started more or less straight away. Sounded like a bag of nails for about 30 seconds, (which I presume was the residue of all the soot that I cleaned out), and then ran smoothly. I let it warm up just ticking over for 10 minutes and then took it out for a short run. A ten mile trip back and fore (and through) town. Average 36.5mpg. Not seen that before on this short hilly trip! All in all, a success - but may be looking at a new battery soon, if this one is failing to hold a charge.
  9. Here are the before and after pics. I really cannot see how this was working at all.
  10. Thanks Steve. This video is the one that I watched to see how it's done. Also, my pal had a code reader and there are no codes stored.
  11. Hi there, I really hope that someone here can help me or at least offer a crumb of comfort! I recently purchased a late 2007 Is220d. The fuel consumption was pretty poor, so after seeing the posts regarding the EGR valve decided to have a look. I first removed battery. The valve was blocked solid with soot which I cleaned out. I removed the valve to do this properly and used Wynns EGR3 professional to give it a good clean. The port on engine that valve sits on was also solid. I used a hoover and small scraper to remove all this and a tiny drop of the Wynns to finish. I then put it all back together and started engine. It ran for about 20 seconds - very roughly, and then stopped. I have since been unable to start it - although after about 5 attempts the battery was flat. My questions are these. 1. By removing battery, and I presume resetting engine settings - could this cause me a problem? 2. Would a relatively flat battery have caused a problem anyway.? 3. Why on earth would cleaning this valve cause such a problem? I have now taken battery out to recharge overnight and removed EGR valve to make sure that valve, pipe and port are thoroughly dry, although to be honest, I hardly used any of the Wynns on the engine part. Any advice would be very welcome please. I would also add that no alarms show up when I try to start it - it just says checks completed.

Thanks Steve. Hoping to pick up info and also contribute advice when I become au fait with my new buy - a 2008 Is200d.
