  1. Abandoned car at work and got a lift home ........Brum is pretty well covered and traffic is tailed back causing very long journeys home .....I'm walking into work tomorrow and hopefully get the car back then.
  2. Fancied a change from the impreza as I'd had it for over 7 years, never had issues in the snow whilst i had it, and it was running a fair bit more power than standard. maybe didnt have that much to require winter tyres as ive never had them either, im fully expecting to have less grip in the lexus as whilst i agree awd is not the be all and end all where driving conditions are less than ideal, but having torque distributed to all wheels does give you a fighting chance of getting somewhere over a car with the power going to just two wheels, moderating your driving to match the conditions goes a long way to help too. Anyway ill find out in the morning as its coming down quite well now and expecting heavy fall overnight
  3. Mmmm this could be interesting then just moved from a awd impreza to the Lexus, and forecast is quite a bit of white stuff from around 6am friday mornin, I'm back in as of tomorrow and all through the weekend, if the is200 is as bad in snow as I've read I might regret getting rid of the Subaru.,
  4. Worth £500 all day long in that condition .....
  5. Plasti dip the panels you want a different colour, from the YouTube vids I've seen its simple and easily returned to standard if not as you'd like, plus a couple of cans would work out cheaper than wrapping I would think.
  6. Smoke and mirrors, removing the cat's does not make an engine super fuel efficient ...... as said do a couple of tank fulls and measure miles covered to calculate the true mpg.
  7. I'm just going to get the alloys done in a darker shade of grey and that's it.
  8. I paid £3500 for a 04 sport with 65k. and that was just under book price from a trader
  9. Sounds more like valve stem seals with that description.
  10. White smoke on cold start up? ...... they all do that.
  11. Got an Android phone or tablet? Then download an app called Torque pro and a odb elm reader from eBay for about £12 .... works well
  12. O ok ... the way you wrote it made out that it was a recent set of mods that you had done.
  13. No its not the only one for the is, I think you'll find that's the type for those that are running a induction kit mine has a cutaway.section right where the standard intake is to allow air to be channeled through from the grille that's after all the initial way it gets its air Pic of mine here http://www.**********...ead.php?t=11846 As you can see air is taken before it flows through the rad and gets heated up by the rad the only air your intake is getting is around the closed bonnet edge and is severely restricting the volume the engine is seeing. And these panels are not just cosmetic as they do work well in directing more cold air through the radiator to improve cooling efficiency i have one on my impreza and it made a noticable improvement ..... yours is stopping any fresh cold air from reaching your intake and the only air your engine is now seeing is warm engine bay air ......but if your happy with it .
  14. That air flow panel you have fitted is not going to let much air into the intake for the filter, as the path of air flow through the grille is now blocked off .....
  15. Well that would seem to be the logical way it would work, I can only say mine works only when the lights are on.
  16. Very strange ....... i need to investigate mine more
  17. As I say mpg is not something I worry about, I do Max 3k a year with work and any social stuff I do, I use the wife's meriva for any family stuff and my tvr for fun and that does drink fuel for fun, but the is200 is poor for what performance it delivers, it does it in smooth comfort though so that's ok for me.
  18. I found it strange the boot light didn't operate when I unlocked the boot only on the remote key, then one day I went in there with the car headlights turned on and the boot light was working, seems that's the only time it works, also I don't think it shows up on the dash tell tale when the boots open because you can independantly open the boot from the remote without unsetting the alarm, just in case you go back to the car just to access the boot and then walk away again without going inside the car ..... its an odd quirk but its got a few like that.
  19. Tried with the lights on as that's when mine works
  20. Don't really take much notice of mpg but I can say from my regular journeys and the frequency I add fuel, this car drinks more than my impreza with less than half the power .... im amazed they managed to make a engine so dire on economy.
  21. A couple of time's last week when I started the car the engine started to race its tits off, turned the key off pretty sharpish, then realised what the issue was and moved the carpet back away from the pedal, not the original one but another I'd fitted when I swapped to the is from my other car, admittedly if it had happened when driving it could have proved interesting to say the least.
  22. Clutch plates generally are marked which side goes against the flywheel ...... easiest thing to check first would be the gear selection, is the lever actually changing gears in the box or doing nothing when moved, raise the rear of the car on a jack and see when in neutral that the rear wheels have little drag on them when turned, then select a gear and it should feel very different as your now turning the gearbox internals also .
  23. Normally spring pressure from the cover plate will clamp the friction plate to the flywheel at all times, thus starting the car in gear or trying to change gear whilst the engine is running will in normal conditions stall the engine, as you are not experiencing this I would say there is no drive connection between the engine and the gearbox and no ammount of bleeding will affect this, so either the clutch friction plate you have fitted is wrong for the splines of the gearbox input shaft and is not transmitting rotational motion from the flywheel, or the friction plate is not being clamped against the flywheel and is free spinning.
