  1. Cheers thanks for that. I will check the belt again as my car has done 145,000 miles.
  2. Hi. I checked all the belts and they were all tight. A friend of mine did mention that as I have had the car for 12 years and this belt has never been changed, it could have got worn and glazy and could be slipping. Mike.
  3. When I first start my 2001 is200 from cold and turn the steering wheel from side to side, it is really notchy and jerky on the steering wheel. I have checked the power steering fluid level and it is fine. I have also checked the drive belts and they are all tight as well. There also seems to be a noise coming from the engine area at certain revs when first being driven, but once car has warmed up, 1 mile or so the noise fades and goes away. I have check for any fault codes, but none are coming up. I hope someone can help. Mike.
  4. Hi Ryan. I did sort it in the end. After fitting new plugs and a new set of coils which did not sort the problem I checked the injectors, you can easily check these, when the engine is missing, by carefully unplugging them one at a time. The misfire will get a lot worse when unplugging the good ones but will stay the same if you find the faulty one. You can also check them with a multimeter with the engine stopped. I bought a second hand one on ebay for £25 spot on. Hope this is of interest to you. Cheers.
  5. Hi Ryan. I have had exact same problem with my car and spent hundreds of pounds with local garage which had all the test gear. I paid for a new set of plugs, then a new set of coils and still had the same problem. I paid up and was told to take it to an Lexus dealer. Great. Found the problem myself in the end and it took me 5 minutes. Number 4 fuel injector. Its very easy to check your injectors, Get or in my case barrow an electric multi tester and disconnect each plug one at a time and check fuel injectors resistence. Mine were all reading 17, except number four which read 0. I checked mine when the engine was hot. If you were to check when the car is cold you may find that the bad injector may only read 5 which is why the car runs for 20 minutes and then starts missing when it gets hot. Have got one on order and an sure this will sort the problem. Trouble with machanics these days is they are now just fitters and dont look for problems manually like they did in the old days. Garages just want to plug you in and throw parts at it. Im a builder not a machanic. Hope this was helpfull Mike.
  6. God this site is really hard for an old person like me to use. Why does it not go staight to my page (when I sign in to see my replies to the problem) I am going to try to change the problem that I have got with my car to a engine problem as its obviousely not a auto gearbox problem. It might take a while, but hopefully not. Cheers Colin please bear with me. mike
  7. I have had a new set of plugs fitted and it has not solved the problem. That £6000 piece of kit does not seem so hot now. Its now saying it could be one or two of the coils playing up or the air intake sensor is faulty. I drove it this morning and it drove fine, but the malfuction and the TRC light were still on. Stopped car for five minutes to get paper and when I started again these lights had gone out. Great. Just got home and it started playing up again and the lights came back on. Bummer.
  8. Thank you for your reply to my problem. I rang Lexus Bristol who were very helpful but said I would have to bring the car in for a dianostic check £50.00. I then rang a mobile tuner (Tony Englander) in Wells and he came to my place this afternoon and plugged his £6,000 piece of gear in and first thought is could be the coils as you said, but on looking closer decided it was the spark plugs and is coming round to change them tomorrow. He changed my cam belt a few year ago and charge me £150. Lexus quoted me £450. I will let you know how this all pans out. Thank for your help. Mike.
  9. My is200 is a 2001 which I have owned for 10 years. Great car. A few weeks ago on reversing out of my garage, I noticed instead of coming out, on tick over smoothly, it was gently jerking backwards. It then drove normally. A week later it did it again at some traffic lights so I took it out of drive and it stopped jerking staight away. A few days later it did it again and the malfunction indicator light started flashing. Now this light is on all the time and the TRC light is now flashing and saying TRC Off. When I press the button it does not change to on. The car has done 120,000 miles as I only do about 2,000 miles a year around town. The Lexus owners manual (page 44/45) gives a few different causes and I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem or knows the cure. It still drives perfectly apart from this. Many thanks mike.
