  1. Many thanks for the replies. To keep you updated with current state of affairs.... Gave the car to another garage who after checking again seemed to suggest that problem lay in the brake module /abs unit. So after much trying managed to get a second hand unit from a local jap breaker who assured me all was ok, however when changed the same sound and symptoms persisted but with a new twist....the car now has a misfire which is very evident when cold but seems to lessen as car heats up. Is it possible to be related to the brake module change or is it just coincidence that this has happened. When driving the power seems a little less on the power and has misfired from the exhaust ( popped) at least a couple times. I am just wondering if they have disconnected a plug /sensorby mistake .would changing the brake/ abs unit have any link to that. Things just seem to be going from bad to worse. Any info on reputable Lexus specialists in the West Midlands would be highly appreciated. Thanks once again from a very fed up and confused Lexus owner
  2. Is been a while since I posted my first thread about this problem. Despite several visits to local garages not one of them can pin point the actual fault. All seem to say that its the abs unit at fault even though there are no fault lights , and more over I cannot get a second hand one from anywhere. Am taking to a new garage tmrw which I have been reliably informed is very reputable and with a good understanding of diagnostics. In the event it is my abs unit? Is it poss to get them reconditioned or repaired?? Feel like scrapping the car as it has been dragging on so long now.
  3. Sorry folks I forgot to mention that the front discs appear to have a bit of a lip on them and was wondering if that can maybe linked to the sound and judder in thr pedal
  4. Have just been going through the forums and have seen some mention of the "brake accumalator" and the fact that it may need re-gassing ? Would this show up on a diagnostic?
  5. Thanks for the replies guys . May I add that the judder is not the whole of the car but just in the brake pedal. I know that there are no lights on the dash and that all the lights are there ie/ no missing lights! Would it be wise to put it on a diagnostic ? My previous similar experience with a toyota rav turned out to be a broken reluctor ring and I`m pretty sure that the abs light didnt come on .
  6. Hi , Have just bought a V reg lexus GS300 with FSH. HAve noticed that when coming to a halt I can hear a buzzing sound from the car and very slight judder. There are no warning lights on the dash. Am I right in assuming that its an ABS fault ...possible reluctor ring failure. Have seem to have read that these early GS 300 suffered from brake servo failure ? Brakes feel fine otherwise, only get sound when car almost comes to a stop. learned feedback would be much appreciated. Thank you
  7. The bubbles were seen in the brake fluid reservoir with the cap off whilst the brake was being pumped
  8. Can anybody recommend a good lexus independant garage in Birmingham and can anyone please advise me of any known master cylinder issues with these Gs 300's. Mine which is a 2001 gs 300 shakes badly when I brake so thinking it was probably a warped disc I took it down to local garage who then informed me that one of the calipers was seized and that it looked like that the master cylinder had gone.....he based this on the fact that the brake fluid was bubbling when the brake pedal was pressed ...Can that be so? Could do with some advice please.
  9. Thanks for the replyTigerfish, will trynagain and see what happens.maybe I'm doing it wrong
  10. Forgot to mention this in my earlier post regarding oxygen sensor and lack of sudden pick up in my recently accquired lexus gs 300.When I initially had the car code read it was done by a friend who has a general obd scanner and I noticed that the vsc off and vsc lights came on. On reading earlier posts can see that cheaper scanners can trigger these lights and that they may be turned off by bridging two pins on the diagnostic plug.I have done this and my lights are still on.I presume they can only be done in one way with the plug being inthe correct orientation. My question is that does the bridging pin have to to go all the way down into the diagnostic pins or is it just a case of slightly inserting them. Also my car shudders a lot when braking and I suspect that the pads and discs need changing ...could this trigger the vsc lights? Finally ,with respect to my car not having a proper pick up when the gas pedal is floored [yet being ok if gas pedal gradually pressed], could it be that the cat is blocked and would that show up on a diagnostic scan.
  11. Thanks for that. Are there any particular makes of sensors that are recomended, as I know from experience that not all after market senors work.
  12. Hello all, have just bought my first lexus,a y reg 2001 Gs300 with 74k and FLSH. Have the engine management light on and have had it code read ....showing initially the following codes, p0171,p0174 and p0141.was then told to drive and see if ligjt came on again which it did, this time only giving p0141 code. Can see from the forums thatthis denotes bank 1sensor 2 oxygen sensor.Where abouts is this sensor and how easy is it to get to and why only the P0141 code the second time? Also have noticed that if I attempt to floor the car from start the pick up is very poor to the point where it the cars revs dont seem to pick up at all(car seems to have no power at all) however if I accelerate gradually then the car seems to pick up fine. Could this simply be a case as suggested by a mechanic of this car not being driven enough as it only seems to have covered around 3/4000 miles / year for the last four to five years and hence requiring a good burn out at high speed , or could there be another reason?
