  1. I think mine is a different problem to yours. I've renewed the battery and so far it's starting fine again. Went into limp mode again yesterday so I cleaned the EGR valve (filthy) and it's running good as ever. Also was recalled to Lexus last week for new steering rack which feels much better. Sorry no idea what might be causing your problem - an intermittent fault is always hardest to trace. At least you know how to cope with it - that's a help.
  2. Well done John. I have the same kind of trouble and also no solution. Changed the battery 2 years ago because it was losing charge overnight. Had it tested but both battery and alternator were fine, isolated the battery overnight and next morning it started fine. Then got fed up disconnecting and changed the battery which has worked ok for 2 years. Now the same trouble again - is it the colder weather? This time however the car is also taking longer to fire up even when jump starting from another battery. Changed the heater plugs a few weeks ago but no different. Isolating the battery overnight again but this morning it turned about a dozen times without starting and then the battery died. Going to buy a new battery today - this one only had 1 year warranty. But still think something is draining the charge overnight. Maybe when the battery is new and strong the overnight drain has little effect and then as the battery gets older and weaker the drain has a greater effect? The longer cranking time is maybe a separate issue - maybe losing diesel supply when parked overnight? Hard to get anyone to sort these cold start problems because once it starts then its fine for the rest of the day so I can't show a mechanic whats happening. Just putting this on the forum hoping it may ring true with someone else.

  4. Mine's going in to Hurst for a power steering recall this week. Only notified about it a few weeks ago so it remains to be seen if there's any problem. Same age of car & model etc. I'll keep you posted.
  5. Souds like your problem is not the same as mine. I've noticed the engine will turn over very slowly with the low battery but will always start regardless of the turning speed. Also, even when fully charged and the engine warm it still turns too many times for my liking. I would not be inclined to try a new starter since I'm now convinced that the battery is draining overnight but not throughout the day. This is a power leakage issue and only in low temperatures. The 800rpm requirement is definitely not true but glad you seem to have found your answer.
  6. Same for me. I'm convinced that the problem is a winter issue as my battery has been fine all summer. I first had the problem 2 years ago in Decemder 2011 and changed the battery. The new battery seemed to solve the problem but then early 2013 it happened again. I tried disconnecting the battery overnight for a while which proved that the battery was holding the charge. Then as the weather improved the problem disappeared only to return again a few weeks back. I've fitted a battery isolator switch this week which I use overnight. The battery is still high every morning and the car starts although it turns too many times for my liking. Sitting all day is not a problem but overnight in winter months is. Also fitted new heater plugs last week but no different. Anybody identify similar issues?
