  1. Just a quick question - my caliper piston boot is allowing fluid to seep out so I'm in a dilemma as to either refurb the calipers or get them refurbed. I would like to do it myself but do not know how difficult this job is. Can people whom have done this job please shed light on the complexities etc. Thanks
  2. Quick question - looking to rebuild brakes and use castrol red rubber grease on caliper sliding pins/piston rubber boot and copper grease on contact points between brake pad between contact points. Is this correct? Also should I be putting any grease on the back of brake pads? Cant see why that would be done.
  3. Problem Tried to disconnect the battery but the negative terminal was sparking too much when I went even close to the negative terminal with a socket wrench. Questions How do I disconnect the battery now? I have had a magnetic clutch failure fault which I suspect to be an electrical issue. If I disconnect the throttle body, should I then be able to remove the negative terminal based on the assumption the magnetic clutch is at fault?
  4. Ok I shall investigate the cables and speed limiter etc. I have used a Merc before with a limiter and without doubt its really good to have
  5. Im sure it's 10mph + 2 mph in terms of leniency. Still I don't want to mess with the nice ride at all and probably look at cruise/limiter.
  6. 1 mph over the limit and you will be pulled. I have nothing to fear at all tbh, I will though say when your being followed and you pull over - you automatically will raise suspicion. That has happened to me before because a cop was following me and actually ****** me off so I pulled over; you can guess what happened next.
  7. Before I start - PLEASE members DO NOT give me any sarcy remarks and please please DO NOT make attempts at being funny! Thanks Any how, I drive a lexus is200 and a BMW 325i. I'm usually very careful at controlling my speed and do not like going over the speed limit. I'm not trying to act like an angel but since POLICE SCOTLAND formed, I have seen TOO TOO TOO MANY coppers hiding in corners and popping at odd times with speed guns etc (12 am on many occasions). I've even been followed by cops for no reason in a very dangerous way. So due to all that and not wanting to be pulled, I drive very carefully and keep an eye on the speedo at all times. In the case of the BM, the car is factory lowered and I can feel the road more so can very often keep under 30 without really looking at the speedo, and at higher speeds just use the cruise control to keep within the speed. However the same isn't quite achieved with the Lexus. Although the Lexus isn't as nice a place to be in as the BM, I find the Japs have done an excellent job at making a smooth car. At 30mph in the Lexus I feel as I'm at 20 and at 70 it's like I'm at 50mph, basically sense of speed in this car is not all there. So my question is: do you recommend any such devices to be more cautious of speed and is cruise control something relatively easy to retro fit? Thanks
  8. Please watch the following two videos and comment on whether what your seeing is normal or not. Thanks.
  9. EvenIng I have a new issue with the lexus is200. When on steady RPM's and going around a corner (most notable when gong around a roundabout) the cars acceleration surges. This same does NOT happen when driving in a straight line at all. What do you guys think it could be?
  10. Evening The code p1126 is relating to the magnetic clutch circuit malfunction. So far I have looked at some diagnostic info regarding this fault and shall study the fault and procedure to diagnose further. At this point can anyone offer advice on removing the throttle body?
  11. Ok so further investigation reveals two RECURRING counts of the fault code p1126. So where do you guys suggest I begin investigating.
  12. Take it no one has cleaned the map sensor? I assume this car doesnt have one
  13. In terms of cleaning the throttle body, I cleaned mine while it was on the car rather than take it off. Any idea if this practice is ok or not? I sprayed throttle body cleaner in the part and really give it a deep clean.
  14. Thanks for the answer. I don't the the induction is at fault. However I have noticed that when the ambient temp goes below say around 5 degrees the emissions light comes on and the tcs light starts to flash. Any ideas?
  15. Unfortunately I have an issue with my car. I have noticed that when the c\ar is cold, the engine violently decelerates when I take my foot off the gas pedal. I have also noticed that the engine again when cold has a delay of around 2 seconds before it decelerates when I take m foot off the gas. What do you guys think it could be and where should I be looking for the problem. I have recently given the car a full service which has't really improved the problem.
  16. No you do not need to do that inspect the belt. However my Advice to be to remove the ps, power steering belts and a/c belt so that you can rotate the engine via the cranckshaft to fully inspect the belt. My belt had a chunk of rubber missing from it and I was very lucky the defect was visible. Had it been hidden I would never of have known and could of have drove around with the defect belt.
  17. That would be excessive if it was 20000 after original change. Anyway got advice on how to remove the cranckshaft bolt?
  18. I bought an is200 a month ago and according to the owner the timing belt had been changed at 40k (car on 75k). I think the guy was talking rubbish as I decided to inspect the timing belt to find a chunk of rubber missing. So I have parked the car up and decided to do this belt urgently. In addition to searching the web on diy's etc, is there any advice members can offer? Thanks for help in advance.
  19. Hi Im trying to do an engine coolant drain and refill but can't for the life of me find the drain plug. I have searched the net high and low, I even have a manual I downloaded but still can't seem to find it. Does the is200 (2002) even have a engine block drain plug???? Please help.
  20. Is oe? Also I'm struggling to find a rad from a supplier. don't really want to get from dealer
  21. I thought they would be OK, but where to buy from? is koyo also oe?
  22. Morning I require a radiator for my 2002 is 200. The core depth of the radiator is 27mm. I have been searching around and can't seem to find an oe spec component. I don't wan't to buy from ebay or dealer. I tried euro car parts but they do not have the 27mm rad. They list it incorrectly for my car for sure, but they don't have right parts. Can members please make a suggestion on which company is good to deal with for this part please.
  23. Thank you far the advice. Another thing I forgot to ask was the brands of the service items. I need to know which brand to choose for the following: air filter oil filter oil (although Im inclined to use mobil 1 or castrol)
