  1. I own a 2002 is200 which I'm sure has a standard suspension setup on it. Although I'm very happy with the way the car handles and rides, I was wondering if there is a possible solution to retaining the ride comfort with a lowered look. I'm not after a silly lowered look, just lower than what it is. I would also like to add spacers to the wheels, to give the car that bit of a more aggressive stance. Is there any advice that can be offered? Thanks.
  2. Sorry for late reply. The problem is not related to aircon use. I did though notice two air leaks - one at the induction and another at the air filter housing. I'm going to look in to that and see what the script is. Although I don't those leaks would cause much of an issue
  3. Hoping someone can help. While stationary, I can hear - not necessarily feel - RPM's fluctuating. I can see the rev needle moving up and down in tune with the engine sound. The fluctuation is very smooth and takes around 4 seconds between fluctuations hence why it isn't noticeable. Any ideas what could be wrong and where to look?
  4. Steering pump hose leaking. Can anyone tell if this is a tricky diy and if there is a walk through on it? Also is there any specialists for Lexus in Scotland?
  5. Just a quick opinion on what you would do/have done. The car as it is has factory standard tyres - 215/45/17 front and 225/45/17 rear (non-standard). Now I'm well up for sticking to factory sizes on the car, but what sort of experience will I have if reverting to factory standard tyres on rears? Im pretty sure the rims are only equipped for 215's on the rears, but saying that I haven't had any issues with handling. I do also know that lexus specify factory sizes for a good reason.
  6. tyre size advice

Hi I'm pretty sure my rears are 7j
  7. My cam cover seems to sweating oil although I'm not experiencing oil loss. What do members think I should do, renew the sealant/gasket or leave alone. I am though having a rough running problem, which brings me on to the second question, is servicing the breather system on the is 200 difficult?
  8. My fan is not switching on and causing the car to overheat. After doing some digging around, one of the temp sensors is out of action, just do not know which one. When I switch on the AC, my fan comes on so that pretty much points to a sensor I suppose.
  9. Just a quick question - my caliper piston boot is allowing fluid to seep out so I'm in a dilemma as to either refurb the calipers or get them refurbed. I would like to do it myself but do not know how difficult this job is. Can people whom have done this job please shed light on the complexities etc. Thanks
  10. is there any diys for this task
  11. Quick question - looking to rebuild brakes and use castrol red rubber grease on caliper sliding pins/piston rubber boot and copper grease on contact points between brake pad between contact points. Is this correct? Also should I be putting any grease on the back of brake pads? Cant see why that would be done.
  12. Problem Tried to disconnect the battery but the negative terminal was sparking too much when I went even close to the negative terminal with a socket wrench. Questions How do I disconnect the battery now? I have had a magnetic clutch failure fault which I suspect to be an electrical issue. If I disconnect the throttle body, should I then be able to remove the negative terminal based on the assumption the magnetic clutch is at fault?
  13. Before I start - PLEASE members DO NOT give me any sarcy remarks and please please DO NOT make attempts at being funny! Thanks Any how, I drive a lexus is200 and a BMW 325i. I'm usually very careful at controlling my speed and do not like going over the speed limit. I'm not trying to act like an angel but since POLICE SCOTLAND formed, I have seen TOO TOO TOO MANY coppers hiding in corners and popping at odd times with speed guns etc (12 am on many occasions). I've even been followed by cops for no reason in a very dangerous way. So due to all that and not wanting to be pulled, I drive very carefully and keep an eye on the speedo at all times. In the case of the BM, the car is factory lowered and I can feel the road more so can very often keep under 30 without really looking at the speedo, and at higher speeds just use the cruise control to keep within the speed. However the same isn't quite achieved with the Lexus. Although the Lexus isn't as nice a place to be in as the BM, I find the Japs have done an excellent job at making a smooth car. At 30mph in the Lexus I feel as I'm at 20 and at 70 it's like I'm at 50mph, basically sense of speed in this car is not all there. So my question is: do you recommend any such devices to be more cautious of speed and is cruise control something relatively easy to retro fit? Thanks
  14. Ok I shall investigate the cables and speed limiter etc. I have used a Merc before with a limiter and without doubt its really good to have
  15. Im sure it's 10mph + 2 mph in terms of leniency. Still I don't want to mess with the nice ride at all and probably look at cruise/limiter.
  16. 1 mph over the limit and you will be pulled. I have nothing to fear at all tbh, I will though say when your being followed and you pull over - you automatically will raise suspicion. That has happened to me before because a cop was following me and actually ****** me off so I pulled over; you can guess what happened next.
  17. Please watch the following two videos and comment on whether what your seeing is normal or not. Thanks.
  18. Thanks for all the help guys.
  19. EvenIng I have a new issue with the lexus is200. When on steady RPM's and going around a corner (most notable when gong around a roundabout) the cars acceleration surges. This same does NOT happen when driving in a straight line at all. What do you guys think it could be?
  20. Unfortunately I have an issue with my car. I have noticed that when the c\ar is cold, the engine violently decelerates when I take my foot off the gas pedal. I have also noticed that the engine again when cold has a delay of around 2 seconds before it decelerates when I take m foot off the gas. What do you guys think it could be and where should I be looking for the problem. I have recently given the car a full service which has't really improved the problem.
  21. Evening The code p1126 is relating to the magnetic clutch circuit malfunction. So far I have looked at some diagnostic info regarding this fault and shall study the fault and procedure to diagnose further. At this point can anyone offer advice on removing the throttle body?
  22. Ok so further investigation reveals two RECURRING counts of the fault code p1126. So where do you guys suggest I begin investigating.
  23. Take it no one has cleaned the map sensor? I assume this car doesnt have one
  24. In terms of cleaning the throttle body, I cleaned mine while it was on the car rather than take it off. Any idea if this practice is ok or not? I sprayed throttle body cleaner in the part and really give it a deep clean.
  25. Thanks for the answer. I don't the the induction is at fault. However I have noticed that when the ambient temp goes below say around 5 degrees the emissions light comes on and the tcs light starts to flash. Any ideas?
