  1. Preventive measure i was refering to steve. There are people who simply ignore the initial dreaded VSC light when it comes on by removing the battery terminal to reset the light. This will work a few times but after a while the dpf gets blocked and car goes into limp mode. I was only pointing out that if you have the obd codes at hand, you can then address the problem properly so it doesn't reappear. p2002 particulate trap efficiency below threshold bank 1 <--- dpf blocked or getting blocked p0401 insufficient EGR flow <-- Egr not opening/closing correctly My lexus IS220d (2007) has 97k on the clock, I have owned it for 2 years. Drive mix of motorway and city driving(very short journeys) now, I have only ever had the p2002 once that was over a year ago. I tend to force regenerate every 3 months and clean egr twice a year. Only last week i cleaned the egr and force regenerated the dpf 3x times within 1 hour to make sure it was nice and clean covering over 40 miles by doing so. I can't afford to have a blocked dpf or sticky egr valve, its a nightmare when you have family travelling with you and car suddenly goes into limp mode on a motorway. So i take these preventive measures to safe gurad myself against issues like VSC, EML, limp mode. There alot of people who hate the IS220d i was one of them but since over a year now i've become very fond of it and honestly can say i love it!! Only because i've come to understand what is required to take care of this car. Thanks to this forum and great info posted by normski2 about his is220d. Just my 2p rant :)
  2. I've said this in previous posts many times, You need to invest in a cheap bluetooth obd2 adapter from ebay £7.00 and a phone app called Torque Pro which cost's £2.95 off Apple/Google store depending which smart phone you have. All in all £10, Its a good investment. This will give you the ability to read codes, clear faults ie VSC, EML etc.. the best part is you can pin point the area of trouble. Regards
  3. DPF cleaners should be used twice a year in my opinion. The cost of a decent dpf cleaner is around £12 or if you want real proffesional versions £25 -£35. If you factor the cost you just better off investing in a Toyota Techstream software. I tend to force regenerate every 12 weeks regardless of the dpf status. It doesn't cost me anything to do so. But helps to keep dpf clear all the time if i do city or motorway driving doesn't matter. I've come to a conclusion with a is220d , decent fuel like shell vpower nitro, clean egr valve twice a year (only cleaned mines over the weekend cost: my time 45mins, and a bottle of carb cleaner £3.50) - Note i also have a 2 year lexus extended warranty but i don't need the dread limp mode in the middle of my journery. I bought lexus warranty for things like Headgasket, Calipers, water pump, electric etc.. iftikhar, if things are done properly to be honest you shouldn't experience issues like you have. considering you spent around £300 to car surgeon couple of months ago for the same problem. These issues are avoidable just need to take correct steps to avoiding them and save ££££ in the long run. Or alternative like you have suggested is get a petrol
  4. I've always use Shell vpower nitro since i've had my is220d but BP or Esso premium fuel is good also. As long as they have additive added to the fuel you can't go much wrong. Keeps the Egr and fuel system clean as opposed to cheap supermarket fuel. with regards to performance i can't compare with other fuel as i never used anything other then Vpower nitro but engine is smoother and quieter. For a few pence extra i rather put fuel with additive, a peace of mind knowing you not getting crap glogging fuel system or fuel filter.
  5. ECU can not be remapped on lexus is220d becuase its locked. You will need to install a emulator.
  6. I've had my is220d (2007 Multimedia model) for about 18 months now, initially when i purchased the vehicle, I had the headgasket issue but that got sorted under the Lexus Goodwill warranty. Got a brand spanking new engine. Got the 100k service done at the same time even though vehicle had only 90k on clock as lexus offered to do it for half the price only because it was already on the ramp. I also got them to replace the front brake disc and pads. Ever since then vehicle has given me no problems, had the dpf issue but that was my own fault started to drive too much in urban areas and not blasting on the motorway once in a while. That was sorted with simple force regeneration via software. If you do the following you shouldn't have any problems with is220d 1. Shell V power Nitro diesel or BP Premium diesel 2. Use engine oil which is low ash 3. Once every 6 months Wynns professional dpf cleaner (Black bottle with Yellow label NOT the purple crap) 4. Can of BG244 once every 8000 miles or on service 5. 5ml of Archoil AR6200 on every full tank of diesel ( but I put 5ml on every 3rd fill up) 6. Clean the Egr Valve once a year or twice a year depending how you drive. 7. Grease the Front and Rear brake calipers every year (Prone to seizing) 8. Force regenerate dpf through software method. once or twice a year for guaranteed results. 9. During winter times i set off only when engine temp reaches about 40 C (I use Torque Pro software on smartphone and bluetooth OBD2 connector).. call me weird but in cold weathers diesel engines don't perform well. I was looking to sell mines in september of this year as i will be getting a company car. I also have the lexus 2 year extended warranty which i took out last year in december 2014. The beauty is it's transferable to new owner which i wasn't aware initially. 250 Auto all day long m8 plus i think the road tax is cheaper aswell compared to the manual
  7. Nice work :) . I would love to see some pictures m8?
  8. For that kind of money m8, i wouldn't bother doing it yourself. For extra £110 you can have it all installed typical cost £400-£500 depending where you go. I'm assuming you are aware that the dpf honeycomb filter needs to be removed by cutting the metal casing and then rewelding back again, only then this dpf emulator will work. Otherwise car will always be in limp mode.
  9. Radio channels, clock and bluetooth pairing will be deleted (I don't think satnav is affected). When battery is disconnected the windows will not work from the driver panel so its a very simple 30 second procedure. Follow this information provided by Matus: 1.switch on ignition to level 2 (do not start engine) 2.go with every window to the middle and back to the top. 3.This will "reinitialize" the windows. Don't ask me why this is needed...
  10. yes m8. just adding to my previous post I've read on toyota forum that the D-CAT systems sometimes throws a wobbler so to speak and you will get the DTC P1386 error so worth just chucking a can of BG244 and some good professional DPF cleaner (Wynns Professional version is great Yellow label bottle NOT the purple crap) in the fuel tank and then drive it hard for 10 -15minutes. Worth a try fuel system might be dirty.. i hope you don't use the crap supermarket fuel. Highly recommend BP premium or Shell Vpower nitro. I've been doing alot of city driving in the past month alot of stop/start journeys. I wanted to see if D-CAT system would regenerate itself ,when i took it on the motorway. I was impressed i got temps of 658 deg C and 500 deg C :). After the temperatures settled back down to around 250 deg C. i accelarated hard, i could tell the difference as it had alot of response in 1st and 2nd gear. I've got in the habit now on every fill up i put 5ml of Archoil AR6200, Once every 3 months Wynns Professional DPF cleaner and a can of BG244 after a yearly service aswell as clean the Egr valve. The Is220d is a great car but you need to look after it alot compared to other cars plus I don't do enough milage to warrant to have a diesel, not sure why i bought it in the first place . I will be changing to a Is250 se-l in the near future. Had enough of Egr, dpf and 5th injectors lol ;)
  11. DTC -P1386 Injector for Exhaust Fuel Addition Possible area's to Investigate for DTC error P1386 Injector for Exhaust Fuel Addition - stuck open Fuel leaks - Fuel leaks in fuel addition injector Supply pump - Correct fuel pressure cannot be fed to the exhaust fuel addition injector Try disconnecting the Negative (-) terminal on the battery for 1 minute to see if you can reset the error.code The exhaust fuel addition injector is mounted on the exhaust port of the cylinder head, and low pressure is provided to the injector by the feed pump in the supply pump. This injector adds fuel by a control signal from the ECM. This injector is used for two different controls: DPNR catalyst regeneration and nitrogen oxides (NOx) reduction. Under the DPNR catalyst regeneration control, the injector adds fuel to raise a catalyst temperature. In the other control, the injector helps the air-fuel ratio become RICH. As a result, NOx in the exhaust gas will be reduced in response to the RICH air-fuel ratio.
  12. Personally always thought 2009 models were a safe bet, i guess not!!. I hope all the replacement engines they're fitting don't pop after a while . Glad you got it sorted.
  13. If you don't want to remove dpf then your only other option is to contact Car Surgeon Ltd, specialist in cleaning dpf,Egr valve. We've had success storys on this forum by people who were in the same situation as yourself. Car Surgeon Ltd Birmingham Tel: 07853 355 415 collection and drop off service also available.
  14. £600 for dpf deleting is way too high, average cost is £350-£500 max. In my other post i mentioned two places that are highly recommended by various lexus, bmw, vw and mazda users. If dpf delete is done properly then you should have no problems of passing MOT. Dpf cannister must be physically attached to the vehicle, the internal honey comb filter is only removed { this is the part that gets blocked} so MOT tester is none the wiser and too be honest he only does visual checks to conform to new VOSA dpf rules and the emulator fitted allows you to pass emission test. It is important you don't go to some cowboy outfit that will charge you arm and leg and dpf delete is not done accordingly. I use the professional version of wynns dpf cleaner not the standard purple bottle
  15. To be honest m8 for that kind of money i would just get the dpf deleted once and for all. There are two places that have been recommended : P and P Auto Services, Taunton Tel: 01823 325 039 (Peter) and OMG Performance, Slough Tel:0207 1014097 (David)
