  1. Each to their own. I've been considering it for a while. Trouble is the one I really want is available at a mere £16,000. Everything else is just second best.
  2. In my job until last year all the managers had top of the range Ford Mondeo's as fleet cars. Now it seems a Mondeo is no longer good enough and only an exec German brand will do. Hence 3 Managers have BMW's, 1 has a Merc and 1 an Audi. I spoke to one of them recently and was told Lexus was not given as a choice when choosing their next company car. German brands are seen to be aspirational, but even VW is not good enough. Couple this with a lack of imagination among the British public. They don't seem to care that they drive the same car as 2 million others as long as it's overpriced and German and I guess you have part of your answer. However I do agree that the range of Lexus engines is poor, particularly diesels and this doesn't help with sales. For my part, I love the fact I drive something so rare and different. (IS250C) I spent £20k plus on my car and would not have felt happy if I had bought the same as everyone else. I often get stopped and asked questions about it, I don't suppose too many 3 series drivers could say the same.
  3. Battery change alone did the trick thankfully. After this I decided to renew the battery in my main key as well. Thanks
  4. Interesting. Yesterday I tried the spare key on my 250c for first time in over a year. It was dead and therefore suspect a new battery. Are you saying I cannot change the battery without going to a dealer to have the Fob registered to the car?
  5. Hi all. 18 months ago I purchased a 2 year old IS 250C in black, being a Newbie I Just thought I'd share my experience with the car so far. I bought the car from a Jaguar franchise in London. I never visited the dealership but they did bring the car to my home for me to see it. In retrospect I would not purchase this way again as I always felt under pressure to buy no matter what the condition. It was just under 2 years old with 12K on the clock. I got it at a good price compared to the local Lexus dealer. (I suppose Jag dealer wanted it off their hands) Once purchased I began finding a lot more blemishes on it than I would expect from a 2 year old car. To this end I purchased a Rotary polisher and have spent a great deal of time bringing the paintwork up to a good standard. The alloy wheels had been refurbished, but not very well, as the new paint has started to flake in parts. These will need refurbing again in the future. Two of the tyres had sidewall damage. I got these replaced by the supplying dealer after giving a less than favorable review on their feedback proforma. Non of the above could be attributable to the car, or Lexus, just carelessness by the previous owner and less than satisfactory presentation by the supplying garage. The main mechanical issue was with the folding roof. Soon after driving for the first time it became apparent there was a rattle behind my head that was more than just a traceable loose part. To this end I returned the car to Lexus Hedge End who removed the whole roof mechanism and fixed the issue under warranty. That's about the extent of the bad news. The car now has nearly 30K on the clock and has been utterly reliable. The roof, when opened, adds a different dimension to driving and the engine is very smooth. The boot is big with the roof up and even has usable capacity when folded. The interior is standard to that in the 250 saloon and I find it very easy to get along with. I receive plenty of favorable comments about the car as there are very few around. All in all I'm a very satisfied owner. Regards. Martin
  6. A couple of pics of the showroom model doing the tour at Lexus Hedge End, near Southampton, back in May this year. I always find the sign above the bonnet in the 1st pic rather amusing.
  7. Oh well, I'm 64, so if I get one I'll wear a balaclava............wouldn't want to add to your misery. Certainly not misery on my part. I'm very proud to own the car and think it's a far more interesting alternative to the fleets of BMW 3 series and Audi equivalents. It's those same BMW and Audi owners that seemingly try to enforce the aforementioned Lexus stereotype in order to justify their unimaginative and overpriced choice of vehicle. Just my experience to date.
  8. Never seen Last Tango in Halifax but that is definitely an IS 250C in the pic. Unfortunately it kind of reinforces the Lexus for old people stereotype.
  9. Hi Steve. One of the things that appealed to me about the 250C was its rarity. (i.e it isn't a 3 series BMW) It does receive quite a few comments. Many people think it's a little like the Volvo S40 cabrio at first glance. Fortunately I'm a little OCD when it comes to cleaning cars. I've attached a pic
  10. Evening all. My name is Martin from Hampshire. I've owned a 2010 IS 250C, in black, for the past 18 months. I'm Enjoying the car very much and finding it very practical, even with the roof down. I experienced a few issues with a rattly roof mechanism which I got sorted under warranty but so far no other issues. Never owned a black car before this one, anyone else find it a nightmare to keep looking good? Looking forward to sharing views with other IS owners. Martin.
