  1. yeah im not to sure what to do any ideas on how to check/adjust them? appreciate your help/advice.
  2. yeah i lighned the dots up then had to rotate the cam gears to tdc
  3. im assuming so i sent it off to motorcast who done the rebuild so im assuming they would have done the valve clearances?
  4. it sound more rear of the engine uno like the vid link i put on its driving me nuts lol
  5. I know exactly what your talking about the inlet side cam gear is springy and springs out of alignment if the retaining bolt isnt put in but i did the retaining bolt and only took it out when the cam was inplace with the exhaust cam uno.
  6. i locked the cam gears with a bolt before i removed the cams and removed the bolt when i reinstalled them the cam gears seem to line up fine but could it be the valve clearances or??
  7. Will it harm it driving it as it is for now?
  8. do you have a how to on that lol? sounds like you could be right in other words valve clearance needs sorting yeah?
  9. maybe but it is getting slightly louder maybe will before it gets better lol?
  10. It sounds exactly same as the is200 in the link below.
  11. If you check this thread out theres a youtube video on it with the exact same problem as mine but noone seems to have a definitive answer. http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic/66741-tappet-type-noise-any-ideas/
  12. new valves and seals skim and pressure test full rebuild basically. it coming from the exhaust side where the manifolds are. You cant hear it driving along. the tappety sound goes with the revs if you know wha i mean if you rev it to say 4000rpm you cant really hear it but below that you can uno?
  13. Sorry to bring back an old thread but did anyone find the root cause of this tappety sound? I like some others have just had a head rebuild and new gasket and its quite tappety coming from the exhaust manifold side top of the engine??
  14. Hi guys me again. So Iv managed to get hold of some new coils and happy days it starts and drives lovely temps ok and no smoke. But its quite tappety Iv read on here of the same issues with others but no definitive answers. I did an oil and filter change. I have driven only a mile or so and still same. Is it a case of giving it a good run then maybe dropping the oil again and do another change??
  15. Apparently you dont need to take the dash out so my bad if that thread and instructions work for you. good luck mate let us know how it goes.
  16. Take a look at this thread. http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic/64252-how-to-change-your-heater-matrix/
  17. The air filter is a 2 min job see pic just undo the 2 clips circled and pull out and the rest is self explanatory lol. They do k&n's on ebay for around 30 to.
  18. Clear pic of where I was wrong you can see both marks which leads me to think the T belt was done wrong before??
  19. Ok so after tons of (limited) research I found theres 2 marks on the cam pulley afte catching it in a Youtube video. and 2 at the crank. I lined up 2 wrong. Theres like a circular indent on the cam pulley but theres also a smaller indent to the left around 10 teeth away. USE this mark when finding TDC lol and use the second mark on the bottom crank. Ok so now im clear on timing any problems im now your man lol. I got it started but has misfire so figured now iv started it will the ecu find any codes again that id previously deleted. Thankfully it did: PO300 PO303 PO305 PO306 So im rounding it down to 3 bad coils if im correct?? Im glad I persisted as last night I was on the brink of breaking it after all my hard work!
  20. The pulley on the cam only goes on 1 way as it has a pin on the cam to line it up on. Am i right in saying if i remove the cams all the valves will spring back thus ableing me to rotate the bottom crank freely which is what iv done? I put a rod in num 1 spark whole and the bottom piston is at its top when the bottom crank is lined up which is right, right??
  21. I put a rod in num 1 cylinder and lined the second mark on the crank pulley and the num 1 cylinder was at its highest point?
  22. Exactlly what I need t do its frying me now lol.
