Thanks for that John , I knew a lot of european cars have the cluster coded to the ecu , I was just wondering if anybody knew if Jap cars followed the same route.

The back lighting on the instrument cluster has gone very dim on my 2001 gs430. I have done loads of searches and from what i have found it looks like the c212 capacitor on the circuit board is at fault, I have ordered a replacement capacitor , In the mean time because I use the car on a daily basis I thought a stopgap would be to put in a second hand cluster . my question is would a gen 2 gs 300 cluster be compatable ? I ask because of the rev counter ( presuming it works by impulses and one being a straight six and the other being a v8

This is the plastic bracket that attatches with 2 10mm bolts to the fixed bracket that is part of the grille as my one fell to pieces .

No niall . ,no need for it to warm up , it drives perfectly from cold , and yes have had an auto for a few years now , I have had this gs300 for 15 months now and has been faultless which is more than can be said for the 330i bmw it replaced , the lexus is bulletproof . things to look out for in my opinion are just service items the rest of the car is so well built and I am sure you will not regret it.

Hi Niall , I would say that even at 100k that book price is over the top ,you have not said the mileage of the car you are looking at , but assuming 125k I myself would be looking to pay around £4000. Have a gander on pistonheads , e bay etc to get an idea of real world price for it.

On my second generation, I had to turn the ignition on for 6 minutes for the immobiliser to relearn its memory, googled it and thats how I found the answer, because I was completely stumped.

I had a stainless system fitted to my Audi at Topgear Bridport and was very pleased with it , the guy who fits fabricates them in Taunton worked at Topgear so should be good.

Longlife are making me a complete system, booked in for the 20th of july, £550. Already have a stainless decat manifold fitted.
