  1. Pays your money and takes your chance with the water pump, but not replacing the tensioner when replacing the belt is negligent.
  2. One of our local well respected wheel refurbishers just want the wheels delivered. I have done that on my old Alfa, delivered one morning using wife's car, picked up next day, Alfa on drive overnight on jacks, looked like someone had stolen the wheels. Got some work done on the brakes and other bits while all the wheels were off.
  3. Welcome Graham, sounds tidy.
  4. Adrian Flux have been closed since Thursday, open again on Monday. This is the recommended list to follow, in this order: 1. Google* 2. GoCompare* 2. Confused.com* 3. MoneySuperMarket.com* Then check insurers they miss: Direct Line* Aviva* Admiral MultiCar*
  5. The correct jacking points are at the pinch welds on the sills, front and rear.
  6. I watched, after asking if the fitter minded, the AA replace my neighbours Golf windscreen, what a complicated job, the tools are out of this world, the sealant is space age, the precision is absolute. To say I was impressed is an understatement. If some one did mine I would be all over them like a rash.
  7. You're more than welcome, glad we all could be of help. Come back soon.
  8. Have you cleaned the MAP. You're are unlikely, in all honesty, going to get a definitive answer to a car problem on this, or any site. The recirculating system on diesels is quite easy to understand, read up on the web and you will understand what each part does and what issues, of many, the system produces. There are several components that cause this "limp mode " effect you describe. You have to work through each one in turn starting with the easiest and most accessible. A code reader would point you in the right direction but they are not essential. As I've said before, you have to get dirty at some point or pay some one to get dirty. I prefer the former.
  9. I'm here all week, twice on Saturdays. I try and offer advice where I can, but reserve the right to take the pizz when I feel it's required.
  10. You don't get many rattles on cars when then don't run. Loose dip stick, loose engine cover, missing engine cover rubber mount, oil filler cap not on correctly, small rodent or pet stuck under the bonnet.
  11. I think this is the link that Neil was talking about, with ropey pictures, woohoo. http://www.clublexus.com/forums/sc430-2nd-gen-2001-2010/710155-sc430-rear-view-mirror-motor-removal.html
  12. I got rid of our two diesels when I retired, we weren't doing the mileage. Best move I made, no more cleaning gunk out of the frigging EGR system every six months. For the OP.....your car will be programmed to "regenerate" the DPF every so often by an algorithm in your ECU. Depending on your driving. If you do local driving the cycle will probably not have had time to complete, but will still reset the counter. So you are never getting a regeneration of the system which just gets more clogged. You may need to get the system cleaned the best you can and then take it for a good blast on the motorway once a week, you never know you may witness the regeneration process as you drive.
  13. I think they all do that, its how they're designed LOL.
  14. I've taken quite a few apart over the years, on different cars, never broke one. You either grab them and pull, slide a lever at the bottom of the shell and then pull or prise it off with something like a wooden spoon. You just need the confidence.
  15. Grow some balls Neil and grab the bastid, pull it frigging off. You can only break it or have to visit A&E with severe lacerations to your fingers,,,,,,,,,,, post pics if you do:lol:
  16. "If that's the case why don't the manufacturers tell us this this when buying a car? You know, kind of an important point, the notion that sooner or later, your car won't move if you're just an intercity driver." Everything gets clogged if you don't give a diesel a good run to blow the crap out of the Gas Recirculation system, its common knowledge. Its a dirty fuel to start with even before the exhaust is recirculated into the combustion process. You need to know how to clean EGR's, MAF's, MAP's, DPF's, or pay someone to do it if you run a diesel about town. As for the manufacturers telling you these things, hahaha I like that one.
  17. Wouldn't have a scooby, But I will have to give you top marks for the question.
  18. I just googled what other IS owners reccommend..I have said this before, but it's worth repeating.Getting the right oils for your car is not a black art, RTFM and buy the equivalent oils that Lexus recommend from a reputable motor factor. I can never understand the amount of discussions we have on this forum and other car forums about such a simple subject. It's all about the numbers on the tin. Rant over.......
  19. What research led you to believe Castrol Oil and Redline synthetic is best for your car?
  20. Wash, rinse and wipe with a Reaper drying towel, they are remarkable, not a mark left on the car after drying.
