  1. You're more than welcome, glad we all could be of help. Come back soon.
  2. I like it, but it seems a bit overkill. Can't you have just one "thing" attached to your trolley jack? But thinking about it, its a good thing if you take you're car to a garage. But thinking about it again, if you can make and fit these "things" you maybe do-it-yourself and don't bother with garages. I'll shut up now. :shutit:
  3. dont forget to clean the MAP, the easiest of all the jobs.
  4. Had it happen a couple ot times, once at an airport and once in a pub car park. Put it down to some interference nearby.
  5. I do exactly this^^^^^^. Simples. Isn't that what the sill jacking point is for? Or is it a design accident?
  6. List of things to check...... Vacuum leak, map clogged, egr clogged, maf requires cleaning.
  7. "evidence of oil around the sump and that they thought it possibly had an oil leak" I would need a little more assurance from the garage before I let them start dismantling my car. Could quite easily be spilt oil as someone mention. Clean the area, drive the car, check again.
  8. Are you a happy bunny with the service? job jobbed then. That's all that matters. The seeds of goodwill planted by the Lexus dealer.
  9. @ C McLean. You wouldn't be a bother to the tax man on that salary.
  10. No guys not Lexus Edinburgh, if anything they've been quite helpful in telling me these are covered under warranty. I bought the parts from Lexus Edinburgh as they had the best internet prices. I then had it installed by Local reputable garage. Reputable?
  11. A prime example as already said of the reason myself and my son spend weekends repairing and servicing the family cars. If I ever have to take a car to a garage I would laugh my head off at any advice given to me with a price tag attached. Always call their bluff and ask to see the issue with the car, and if your not comfortable take a knowledgable friend.
  12. I don't know how the mirror glass comes out on your particular mode, but on many cars that I have replaced glass on you get a plastic kitchen utensil wrapped in a cloth, spoon, egg flipper, fish knife, put it behind the mirror and prise it off. Some cars though have a small sliding switch that is located under the bottom edge of the mirror. Tilt the mirror up and look inside and you will see it, slide it to one side. I would have thought someone, with your model would have been able to comment on it.
  13. Rather a knee jerk action to a faulty fuel pump. As pointed out by othe experienced members you can get a pump cheaper and fitting it is fairly straightforward. Hardly needs mega hours to fit one. Better the devil you know. Please reconsider
  14. It's never been the complicated, mysterious, magical issue that people on this and other forums make it out to be. The car makers give you the details of the oil they recommend in the handbook, there are websites that will tell you what oil suits your car, they don't tell lies. All you have to do is compare the numbers and letters from your handbook to those on the container and job jobbed. It does infuriate me.
  15. Boot struts are easy, pull a small clip remove and replace. You'll find the boot (usually) to be a heavy old thing that will need holding up with a stout piece of timber. I don't know about the mirrors but I would pop them off and look at the motor working without the mirror in place, it may just need resetting or lubricating. I've never heard of the paint causing issues with a sensor, have a look behind at the wiring. Swap with a known good sensor to see if it's at fault or the wiring is the issue. Good luck and enjoy.
  16. It is. They always say while stocks last, but I buy a box every year and do all the family's cars.
  17. I buy this four pack. http://www.autovaux.co.uk/product/93165557-synthetic-oil-engine-5w30-dexos2-opel.aspx
  18. I also use fully synthetic dexos2 5w 30 from Vauxhall for my car. Cheapest I could find anywhere. Use it for my IS250 and the wife's SEAT Mii.
  19. Good luck, not the weather for crawling under cars. I did a full day with my son replacing all four coil springs and front anti-roll bushes on his Vectra the other week. I was knackered, we finished after dark. Beer and a hot bath were required.
  20. You surely take advice from where you can. And then pick which pearl of wisdom you agree with and act on that.
  21. I don't like diagnosing cars on the Internet, as I keep banging on, "someone has to get low and dirty" But.......knocking on acceleration and braking . My first point of call would be checking the drop links.
  22. I mention examining the car because a bloke posted on here recently, about something making a noise at the rear of his car. He asked for advice and everyone starts mentioning components that could be the culprit. In the end it was his spare wheel that was loose.
