  1. I'm about to replace a front wheel bearing on my ls400 1999 can you tell me the torque setting for the retain nut?
  2. Hi Colin, I've tried the number you gave me several times without success, but I have located a part, it's in the post & on it's way to me. The car it's been in is being broken up, so the breaker has not been able to test it, however that's not the end of the saga. The car breaker also had a wooden steering wheel & wooden gear lever which I bought from him & as the original part I wanted was untested he threw it in free of charge. I expect to receive the parts on Wednesday if Parcelforce deliver on time. If all goes to plan I'm going to have a very happy bank holiday weekend.
  3. Thanks Colin, I'll give him a call in the morning. Do you know in which area he is based?
  4. I've just spent 2 hours with the locksmith, who in turn had a long conversation with the last Lexus garage I went to. They came to the conclusion that the door control wireless receiver was faulty & needed replacing, as the keys were checked and are transmitting on the correct frequency, but they could not programme them. Lexus have discontinued this part (No.89741-50331/0) so I'm hoping to locate a second-hand one. Anyone know of one for sale, it's for a 1999 LS400 with a 3 button key ? Problem No.2, Does anyone know where the door control wireless receiver is located in the car and how it can be removed?
  5. Thanks, but that is one of the procedures I've already tried. I've just spoken to a car locksmith who thinks that the new keys may be transmitting on a different frequency to the original working key. I've made an appointment to have him check this out next week. Hopefully he'll be able to solve the problem, whatever it may be.
  6. Will do. But as you say it's a problem that you can live with, I may not rush in to doing it. Many thanks
  7. Many thanks for your reply, but I have tried just about all the sequences posted on the Web, the door lock unlock dance, the brake & accelerator routine, that's why I then took it to a Lexus dealer or 2 Lexus dealers to be exact. Both dealers are able to get the new keys to start the engine but are unable to get the remote locking to work, which they can't understand as the original master key works fine.
  8. Many thanks for your reply, all is a little clearer now. In order to remember where & how everything fits back together I'll probably take photos as I progress.
  9. Many thanks, I've checked out ambermarine's post but what I would really like to do is to remove the ignition switch, together with the attached wiring & either repair or replace it.
  10. I have a 1999 LS400 with 1 master key which starts the car & also has 3 button with all 3 buttons working. Needing a spare key I have had two keys cut by 2 separate Lexus dealers, both dealers have been able to programme the key to start the car, but have been unable to programme the remote locking. Any ideas what the problem may be & has any other member experienced this with a new key. As I'm new to the club and posting topics, any help would be appreciated. Many thanks Mike
  11. I have exactly the same problem with my1999 LS400 can anyone tell me how to remove the ignition switch so that I may replace it. I'm new to the forum & any help would be appreciated. Thanks Mike
