  1. Hi just wondering if anyone can help. I have an altezza with the auto box. It won't kick down and the steering wheel gear selector doesn't work. I have been trying to sort the stereo and found two random wires that are not connected to anything. One is a light purple with a white stripe that seems to disappear towards the engine bay. The other is pink with a label attached, car speed signal input. I'm wondering where these should be going. The car will kick down if you are going less than 60mph but will only rev to 5500 then change from third then quickly 4th then into 5th. Any ideas. Fluids in the box is a very clean red colour. Cheers
  2. Cheers, I'll check the obvious bits. Fluid is a nice red colour and doesnt smell burnt. I'll look at the fuses and cables. Failing that I'll take the sump off and check the solenoids. The spare box I have came from a car that had no gearbox issues. So solenoids should be good If I need parts. If I had a ramp I'd look at just swapping them over.
  3. I had meister zeta s on my Mx5 and absolutely loved them. Great suspension, more on the side of fast road and track use. I'm not so sure how the Europa style will stand up. Can they be stiffened right up for aggressive track work, though only occasional. Don't worry I'm not one of these dickheads that buy cheap nasty coilovers just for "lows" and to be accepted into a "scene". Unfortunatley the mx5 world has gone that way, full of clowns that want to be drift kings but are destroying a great handling car. Mx5 has always had a poor reputation due to its " hairdresser" image. Once you've driven one though its a plucky little fun car. I want to sort out the bushes first before I go buying coilovers though. Anti roll bars might be higher up the list though. Is there anywhere in particular that everyone uses for standard bushes?
  4. Hi, Ive got an Altezza with a problem with the autobox. It doesn't kick down from 4th to 3rd and the steering wheel controls are dead also the snow/power mode has no effect. The odometer wont work either so I'm Thinking it might all be connected. I found a video on youtube that talks about electrics in the box. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=24gkmDDV0C8 Bassically if somebody can tell me location of these solenoids I can begin to eleminate possible problems. Or possibly the gearbox brain (whatever its called) What I got from the video is, that any faulty solenoid or connection will mess up the electrics for the whole box. Any suggestions and or help will be great. Thanks.
  5. Also while I'm on the case is there any worth while parts I should look into. Adjustable arms etc.
  6. Looks like my lower control arm bushes are shot at the front. I'm looking to replace most of the bushes on the car so I'm wondering where is best to get the parts from. I want to improve the handling without affecting the comfort. If I decide to stiffen the car up I will go down the coilover/ uprated anti roll bar route. Cheers, Nathan
  7. Hi all, Just thought I'd sign up to the forum. I recently picked up 1998 Toyota Altezza for next to nothing. Its a little scruffy and has a fault with the auto box. ( wont kick down properly and steering wheel padals dont work also wont hold the revs, changes early. I have a spare auto box that I will try and fit to see if that helps ) I have come from the mx5 world, having owned a nice spec mk1. The wife forced me to sell it for something more family orrientated. I had 2 BMW e30s but after a 5 nothing really handles as well. I was looking for an old KE70 corolla but stumbled across the Altezza which brings me here. I have already replaced the front brake pads for Ebc yellowstuff and have many plans for future mods. Manual conversion, lots of track use and possibly a turbo. Unfortunatley I dont earn a lot of money in my current job so its going to be a slow process. First jobs will be sort the auto box and fit the LSD I have picked up for a song. Bushes will be the next thing I'll be looking at. I noticed while doing the brakes that the lower control arm bushes are shot. might explain the shaking at speed. Anyways I'll try not to ask too many stupid questions and do some reading on the forum to find what I need to know. Cheers, Nathan
