  1. I bought my first IS200 because it was a quality car that wasn't a BMW/Audi and loved it. I didn't like the replacement 2nd generation IS220/250 because it looked too much like a 3 series BMW so I went to a SAAB 93 mainly because I wanted the diesel economy. Replaced this with a Merc CLK 270d which I enjoyed but missed the exclusivity so bought the Toyota GT86 within a week of seeing one in the flesh - total exclusivity down here in the West Country there were only about 6 registered West of Bristol!! Returned to the IS with the 300h now that I need a proper 4 seat car and again enjoy the fact that out of the 200 plus cars in my work car park there are only 2 us who have got the lure of the Lexus brand and in particular the IS In short my answer comes down to quality and exclusivity but I agree that Lexus may well be left out in the cold if they don't have a re-think of their full electric vehicle policy
  2. Thanks for the inputs, as I said in my original post the fault was the hybrid system not being able to go through its start sequence to give the Green Ready indication which is powered by the 12V battery. I didn't realise that the 12V battery was in the boot so thanks for that info, I will check out the boot when I get the car back. In the meantime I have bought a small jump starter pack which was recommended to me by a friend in the MG Owners Club. At £30 it will be handy to have for the Lexus and my MGs as apparently if fully charged it will start a 3.5 lite petrol or 2.5 litre diesel engine 20 times which is incredible for something not much bigger that my mobile phone!! http://www.amazon.co.uk/8000mAh-Starter-Current-Emergency-Ultra-bright/dp/B012SXUK24/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1460134374&sr=8-1&keywords=annke+jump+starter
  3. Symptoms seen were: Door mirrors unfold sluggishly. On plugging in seat belt Memory Seat and/or Steering Wheel sluggish or fails to reset to Drivers Memory position On pressing Power button, hybrid system ready light doesn’t come on and warning alarm sounds followed by message on dashboard saying “Hybrid system failed to start, Select P” Car is already in Park (P) The above symptoms appear randomly but are consistent if car is not used over a weekend or after about 15 mins listening to the radio with the power mode selected to Accessory. On it failing more regularly I measured the 12V battery voltage at the starting connection in the fuse box which read 10.2V DC. Once I managed to get the hybrid system to start then the 12V system voltage was steady at 14.4V irrespective of whether the engine was running or stopped. Believe that once the hybrid system starts the 12V system is maintained from the main traction battery. On taking the car in for service (2years, 15000 miles) the fault has been diagnosed as a sick cell in the 12V battery. The quotes from Lexus Plymouth are “it is not possible to break the hybrid system”, “we have never seen a Lexus battery failure”. A replacement unit is not immediately available and is on “back order” (whatever that means) as apparently they don’t fail so am now driving a hire car (Toyota RAV4) until the replacement arrives sometime in the next couple of weeks. As can be seen by the attached pictures this is no ordinary battery that you will get from Halfords and I have no indication of the cost of replacement as it is being dealt with under warranty. I believe the engine is started using power from the main traction battery, this unit is used to start and maintain the electronics of the hybrid system so it is not “stressed” with major starting current drains so how it can develop a sick cell remains a mystery.
  4. Hi Edward, do you still have the details of the ones that you fitted please
  5. Going back to the late 1970's when I passed my test: Ford Anglia 105E, Mk1 Ford Escort 1300E, Ford Escort XR3, Audi Coupe, Vauxhall Astra GTE, Volvo 360 GLT, Various Ford Mondeos, Renault Laguna, Rover 216 GTI Twin cam, Lexus IS 200, SAAB 9-3 TiD, Mercedes CLK, Toyota GT86, Lexus IS300h As well as the above I have had a 1975 Triumph TR6 and I now have a 1980 MGB V8 Roadster
  6. Compared to my previous Toyota GT86 which was 200 BHP with the same OEM tyres as fitted to the Prius, the handling of the IS 300h is quite benign but not half as much fun!!!!
  7. If you are looking for a weekend car that will give a real drivers experience then the Toyota GT86 is great. With TC off and on standard tyres it gives 'tail out' action at low speed (30 mph) and is a hoot!!
  8. Having paid £26K for my 9 month old 14 plate F Sport with < 7000 miles I would say keep looking for a better deal
  9. Had the same system on my Toyota GT86 !!
  10. Luckily I also have a Rover V8 engined MGB roadster for those times when i need a real engine noise fix!! Sunny day top down V8 blast across Dartmoor is very hard to beat
  11. This is very confusing?? Is there a definitive list of version numbers against release dates for the system? At my last dealer visit I enquired about firmware updates to be told that my car had the latest version (Quote version7 - looks like my dealer is using a different reference to identify updates) at the service before I took delivery. My car was registered in July 14 and the current firmware version listed on the head unit is VC03101C
  12. Both of my F Sport front wheels have now been refurbished by an independent detailer employed by Lexus Plymouth. The Sales Manager at the dealership assured me that the colour match would be ok even if all 4 wheels had to be re-painted. The result after 1 day with the dealership is both front wheels looking like new and a perfect match with the back wheels. I enquired if all 4 wheels needed to be re-painted and was told that the rears had been cleaned only. Unfortunately the pictures that I have are too big to upload???
  13. Can anyone please tell me what the latest firmware version for the Premium Navigation system is? The number I have on my 2014 F Sport is VC03101C Thank You
  14. Thank You Gang, a very informative post which answers my questions well. We are very happy with the EV experience offered by the IS and are slowly getting to grips with the slight change in driving style required to get the best from the system. Although my wife is getting better figures than me because I still like a little 'blast' every now and then as I used to do in my GT86. Thanks again PS The son of a friend of mine has just been head hunted by Tesla from Aston Martin to be their head of interior design in San Francisco, so hopefully you will be driving one of his designs in the near future
