  1. Hello, Does anyone have a list of MK2 GS300 fault codes? It's not OBD2 so I'm using the flashing check engine light method. The car failed its mot today on emissions as it's running rich. The codes I have are 19, 25, 28, 29 and 99(which I presume just means end) Google tells me 28 and 29 are probably bank 1 o2 sensor 1 and 2 but I'm not 100%. Although I did replace sensor 1 a few months ago so this is odd... Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks
  2. Hello, My '98 GS300 randomly goes into limp mode, a couple of times a month, I checked the codes by bridging pins E1 and Tc under the bonnet and got 28 and 29. I believe those are the main and sub o2 sensors. It seems strange that they'd both go, could it be someone else causing the codes? Of course, I don't know for sure that its this causing the limp mode... Thanks :)
  3. What ECU hack is this? Everything I'd read pointed towards an aftermarket ecu being required for any major tuning as the oem ecu is completely locked down
  4. I will check but I've not noticed it being wet when I've looked at it before. No water anywhere in the cabin that shouldn't be. Do you mean dry after the ac has been on or in general?
  5. Hello, I've got a '98 GS300 and after I use the AC, in any conditions, it makes a nasty damp smell and starts to fog the windows. It eventually dries out but it's very annoying. The AC itself is cold and works well while it's on, it's just when I turn it off the problem happens. Any ideas? Google isnt very helpful. Thanks :)
  6. Thanks for the replies. Yeah, I guessed it was air. I took it to lexus cheltenham but they wouldn't touch it as they thought it was leaking out of the master cylinder. Upon further inspection I found it was the fluid reservoir that was leaking, from the oring/grommet things it feeds though. I took it off, cleaned it all and reseated it. Doesn't leak anymore and the brakes feel better, but still definitely due a bleed. Lexus wanted £90 to do it originally but I've bought all the fluid so I'll have a go myself. Can anyone link me to a guide? I've read in various places about there being a correct order to bleed in and that you need to turn the ignition on for the rear brakes in order to let the pump push the fluid through...
  7. Hello, I've got a leak on the brake master cylinder in my '98 GS300 and I'm wondering if it's repairable. This image show the area that's corroded and is letting fluid past. I'm not sure what this is called or whether it'd be included in the master cylinder rebuild kit (Lexus PN: 04493-30280) Is it just a stopper? If so, I may be able to machine a new one up. Exploded diagrams in the workshop manual don't seem to show it as a part. If anyone can shed any light on this it'd be appreciated :)
  8. Hello, I'm having a nightmare getting a new key for my '98 GS300. I took it to Lexus Cheltenham last weekend for a new key with programming and a brake fluid change. They couldn't do either due to my master cylinder leaking and their internet being down... So! They sold me they key for £270 and said they'd pick it up in the week to take it away and have it programmed. The guy came this morning and said he won't drive it due to the brake fluid leak (fair enough), but he couldn't program the key fully with his portable computer either. It worked for remote locking but not for the immobiliser. He also noted that there were two fault codes for broken O2 sensors, however, the check engine light wasn't on, although it is working. He said it may be an ECU fault causing the problems with the key, the sensors and/or the light but they'd need to get the car back to the dealership to check. Is it likely my ECU is at fault? I've been reading here that the capacitors can dry out in some models: http://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls-1st-and-2nd-gen-1990-2000/656360-all-my-crazy-lexus-issues-solved-ecu-leaking-capacitor.html But it doesn't mention the 2GS as far as I can see... If not, is there anything else I can check to get to the bottom of this? Thanks :)
  9. I'm having the same problem, went to lexus today to have my brake fluid changed and they wouldn't do it because they said it was leaking, and I'd noticed the level go down a lot recently too. Does anyone know where to get the master cylinder seal kit? http://www.lexuspartsnow.com/oem-lexus-gs300-master-cylinder-repair-kit.html Part numbers are there, no one in the UK has them! And I'm scared to ask a Lexus dealer after they told me they could fix my leak for £3000 plus labour today... FYI, my car is also a '98 GS300 with 90k miles on the clock
  10. Well my brother had a listen and he said its fine and nothing to worry about, just me being pedantic :)
  11. Luckily my brother works at an engine refurbushers so I will check the clearances when I get some spare time. He has all the tools and shims I could need. Thanks for your help :)
  12. Thanks for the reply, so in all likelihood it's because the oil is thinner than the stuff it had in previously and nothing to worry about? Googling brings up a few instances where people have recommended valve reshimming to account for wear. Do you know how necessary this is likely to be?
  13. Hello, I've been doing some long over due maintenance on my recently purchased 1998 GS300 with 90k miles. I've drained and refilled the atf twice (still needs a couple more) changed the oil and filter, cleaned the vvti filter, I will be doing the differential oil on the weekend and taking it to lexus for a brake system flush soon :) However! I noticed after the oil change the engine sounded much noisier at the top of the engine so I guess tappets? I used Mobil 5w30 fully synthetic and a bosch filter. Do I need to be using a thicker oil as the car is quite old? Or do I need to get a genuine filter from Lexus? Thanks :)
  14. Hello, I've got a '98 GS300 and I've noticed that if I press the brake pedal while driving I'll brake gently and the pedal will feel soft-ish, if I let off then press the brake again straight away, it'll be much firmer and brake harder. Do I need to bleed my brakes? If so, does anyone have a link to a guide or a workshop manual? Thanks :)
