  1. We all know that manuals are rubbish. NOTHING in my manual about this. My previous Lexus had a slot into which you inserted the removed key and twisted. This doesn't. No video on line of this, either. I worked it out by messing. It's dead easy.
  2. My best was 61mpg on a long trek where I kept max to 100kph. On Irish motorways max is 120kph = 75mph.
  3. ES. I had the IS for 3y. ES is more economical.
  4. By full to full measurement and according to car, it's done 57mpg measured over 835km. In Ireland cars show km but the conversion is easy. Car is 4y old. Low mileage
  5. That's what was reported. I think you could (from previous proper test, empty to empty vs reported consumption in previous IS300h) take 3mpg off this. It's still amazing. Car is ES300h 2019 model. I heard an Irish chap living in England and working for Honda, talk about how to save fuel and he said to reduce speed on the motorway, and generally, and that modest enough reductions can have a big effect, as well as usual coasting, easy on pedals etc. I normally do the latter but tend to drive at speed limit on motorways. I had to drive this distance in the last three days. About a third was motorway. Here in Ireland Limit is 120kph (75mph) so I drove this at 65mph, and on good secondary roads, the limit is 100kph (62) so I tended to keep that at about 55 ish. Some of the roads were poorish country roads, a bit up and down and drove them at appropriate speeds. The temp was up to 12c. Car contained myself and my wife and some suitcases. I'm over 13st and she's about a slim woman of about 5'5". I never accelerate hard unless it's appropriate. My usual consumption is usually over 50mpg in town or country.
  6. The GPS programme is lousy compared to Google maps which I can run by plugging my phone in through Android. However, I like a challenge and people were complaining about their inability to enter co-ordinates in the Lexus system. You actually can, BUT there's a problem. To enter the co-ordinates enter search on sidebar. (You can't do this with vocal recognition). Then address. Then down from that you see coordinates. Chose decimal and get plus... Here's the glitch... my first one is 52/.0804... Then negative and it's -8.something. Have to enter -008something. THe point gets put in after 3 digits.. The problem is the system puts in 52.804 and an initial 0 here is deleted. I tried 1 and it was retained but no matter how many times I enter 52.0804 it finishes up as 52.804 Which takes me to the wrong place. The second co-ordinate is preserved as entered. Turned car off and back in. Remains. Has anyone else dicovered this?
  7. You don't get a spacesaver tyre in the ES300h in Ireland, though the space is there for it. Does anyone know the specs of this wheel? My car has 17 inch wheels. Thanks in anticipation.
  8. So it is! You're a star. When I rang the garage (A Lexus garage) they didn't know about this! Thank you. Great info.
  9. I know how to take the key out of the fob and have done it several times, but I didn't know about this keyway. There is a button on the right inside rim of the glove compartment. I'll check out this keyway..
  10. Thanks Herbie. I'm no car expert at all. Bicycles and Photography are my thing. I suspected I didn't have to have the engine running. Manuals of all types are just badly written! Trying to find things in manuals is even worse! There's a chap called Brucie on a cycling forum I'm on and he's like you! A mine of information! I'll store your wisdom on this.
  11. Fob wouldn't open door. Removed key thing, opened door. No lights on anything. Googled and read manual. When the 12V battery is flat or dead, nothing works. You can't push start a hybrid. You need to have second car and jump leads. There's a big grey fusebox on right side of engine as you look from the front of the car. The plus terminal is in there covered by a red hinged plastic cover. There are two sprung grips which you undo at back and towards front. Then there are three plastic clip things which you need to wedge open with small flat screwdriver to lift cover up. Wear rubber gloves just in case. Pull red cover up and clip the red positive jump lead on the terminal. Clip the other red positive on the Plus on second car. Then plug the black on the negative of the second car and finally the black on at bare metal part on the engine etc on the lexus. IF you've chosen the second black properly your lexus dash will light up. Then start second car and rev up a little for 5 mins. Then leaving that running, press the Push on the lexus.. when the Ready light lights your're in business. Now, unclip black lexus black second car, red second car and lastly red lexus. In that order. Leave lexus on and when everything restored go for a drive for a few miles. With a little luck you'll be fine. Bring jump leads with you just in case! If the problem doesn't recur the battery is okay. I'm sure mine is as the car was hardly used for weeks. Second problem. Next day, couldn't open boot. From inside car or with fob. Solution. When you open the glove compartment there's a boot release button on its right rim used to keep boot closed for extra security. I'd somehow pressed that during my various manoeuvres. Press that, end of problem. This may be useful to someone. The instructions on attaching and detaching jump leads are fairly obtuse in the manual. Reverse previous procedure... How can you keep that stuff in your head?
  12. Had to drive 175 miles to Dublin and 175 back on Monday. Just me in the car plus a full size spare wheel which I always bring on long journeys. Apart from about 20 miles of urban traffic, this is all motorway. Official speed limit in Ireland is 120kph = 75mph. Going to Dublin put cruise control at 100kph (62 mph). Coming back at 120kph (75). There was a stretch of about 8 miles on motorway in both directions with limit of 60kph due to roadworks. Weather was nice at about 12C, sunny, little wind. Going at 100kph 57.3 mpg Returning at 120kph 52.3 mpg. I think this dial consumption can have about 3mph subtracted as I found this on a full-to-full test before. So, 13 mph produces a 5mpg difference. Car is three years old with only about 18000 miles done.
  13. I've a Lexus IS300h, 3y old. I was concerned by not have a spacesaver wheel or a proper spare as I sometimes do long drives where a long wait for a puncture would be a no-no, so I bought a spare full-sized alloy wheel with tyre and bung it in the boot when I'm going on a long journey. Going to the shops two days ago, the pressure warning light came on so I went to a garage and started testing the pressures. The valve in one wheel cracked (with no significant pressure on it) and the valve fell out. There I was. Completely flat tyre. Fortunately I'd left the spare in the car so I took this out and with considerable difficulty, changed it. The jack in the Lexus scores about 2 out of ten for mechanical efficiency. I'd different nuts with the new wheel but was supplied with them and its own spanner with it. I'd have had to get a lorry as these valves are Lexus specific and cost a bit as well. Had it been a puncture, it wouldn't have cost much. I can't understand why you can't even buy a spacesaver for a Lexus from Lexus Ireland, but I'd enquired.
  14. I'm well aware of that, but if they gave you a spacesaver tyre at least that you could put in the boot or not, as you desired, it wouldn't cost them much.
  15. I checked. No button. I also read the manual. My particular model doesn't have them but there are instrucitions including the button for those which do.
  16. I'll have a look and I'll let you know! Thanks.
  17. I've my car, an IS300h for two years and four months from new. It has 17in wheels. I've not had a puncture yet but I've always had a bit of anxiety about long journeys with time constraints. Toyota Ireland don't do a spacesaver for this. I'd enquired here and there but yesterday got onto a local tyre/wheel supplier and they sold me a new alloy wheel (not Lexus) with a new tyre for €170. I don't care if it's not Lexus, I just want the assurance it'll bring. I'll take it on long journeys. Spacesavers would make you lose the will to live if you've to drive a long distance on them. I've two faults with the car. It doesn't have automatic wipers and the spare issue. They should offer a spare tyre as an accessory. Everything else about the car is excellent. As for this weight saving with no spare. This is a full-size spare and wheel plus tyre weigh 43lb. It's not exactly the weight of an adult, is it?

  19. The exact same for me! I've stopped looking at the MPG which is pretty good and just love driving the car. The CVT which is much abused, is in my experience brilliant. It gives you ferocious acceleration where you need it. The car is so effortless to drive.
