  1. Thanks for quick replies, much appreciated! Shahpor; yes it was the same temperature coming out regardless of what temperature I was setting. Also it was the same power regardless of what power I was setting; so if I had it at 16C and on full power, I had the same as if it I had on 30C and 1 bar (lowest fan output).
  2. Hi all, I'm having problems with my heater (07 is220d). Any ideas on what it could be? Some info on what I'm seeing: - it started yesterday; I have full power but when it was on LO I had cold air, when it was on anything else (16C or 25C or HI) I just had the same very hot air. It was like the thermostat wasn't working. Same on AC or with AC off. Same when I did DUAL - then this morning I had no power, when I turn the vent power onto full instead of being like a wind tunnel there was just a little bit of air coming through. It didn't matter if I had it as window / or to face or to feet, or what I did with AC or DUAL. Still just a little bit of warm air coming out. Also I had the classic Head Gasket issue on this car about 6 weeks ago and had this fixed (no HG, new head and new injectors), so hopefully it's not the same thing again. I checked and the Coolant level is fine too. I don't know much about cars technically, but it sort of seems like a problem between the actual console and the unit, like in the electrics / sensors etc. What you think? G
  3. Thanks for the replies. I've only been driving this car for a few weeks and about 80%+ of my driving is motorway so going to play a little and see if I can inch up the MPG. I've started a bit of a test to see what happens at the moment - as info EGR been recently cleaned, car serviced too, no A/C on, and using regular diesel nothing too fancy. My starting measurements from this morning, I spent 20 mins on the motorway doing a steady 75MPH: - first 10 mins in 5th gear; averaged 6.9L/100KM (41MPG); the car felt fine but was revving at about 2000-2300 revs - last 10 mins in 6th gear; averaged 6.4L/100KM (44MPG). During this time I was sitting at about 1600-1800 revs. It was OK, no obvious vibration but I felt I was really at the bottom end of the limit speed wise for this gear. But from this first run it looks like at this speed 6th gear is a little more efficient. What I plan to do is repeat this test and then start to play a little more to vary the speed, gears. Also I've ordered some fuel additive which people recommended (AR6400-D) so I'll start to add this and see what happens. Also need to check my tyre pressure, I think it's OK as was recently serviced but will double check. So in case anyone is interested in my NERD experiment, stay tuned :)
  4. Hi all, Just had my EGR cleaned out and wondering when do I use BG244? Do I put it in soon or do I wait a few thousand miles? I thought I added it now, but just wondering if the EGR is actually clean now will this help? Sorry if stupid question, couldn't find instructions on how to time this with the EGR clean. Thanks G
  5. Hi all, About half of my driving is on motorways where I'll be averaging 125kph / 77 mph. I assumed that 6th was better for this type of driving both in terms of MPG and also not loading the engine, but from what I'm reading I'm wondering is this the case? I'm reading some conflicting stuff about both MPG and also Carbon build up in the engines. I can do a test with it; clear out my average MPG and drive 1 day in 5th and 1 day in 6th to check the MPG, but am wondering more about the engine / carbon side of it. Do people feel you'd be better off in 5th or 6th for a run like this? What measurements / tests / experience have you? Curious G :)
  6. Thanks for all the input and ideas, I have some updates: 1. Garage nearly finished the job; they replaced the head gasket & cylinder head as this was damaged and couldn't be skimmed. It wasn't very badly damaged, but felt better to replace. There was no other damage to the injectors / turbo / valves etc. So the top 2/3rd have been replaced which is good. They are going to do a Compression test on it so I'll have a way to monitor / check on it as I go 2. I'm going to take the car and drive it for a few weeks and see how I go, is still under engine warranty then. Will take all of the tips onboard about minimizing the carbon in the engine (EGR clean, proper quality diesel and additives now and then, and also giving the italian run / motorway trips now and then to keep it from dusting up It sounds like they did a good job, hopefully they did and I get some luck with it.
  7. Hi - thanks for the replies. When I read up on it the law says that the dealer must be given a fair chance to rectify the problem. Only if they cannot rectify it, then you have the right to a full refund. I think all I can do for now is see what they plan to repair, and when done, take it from there. Either not fixed and I push refund, and fixed and I decide to sell it on, or fixed and I decide to drive it until it stops, hopefully in 2-3 years at least in which case I'm OK money wise. Not great at all, but lets see how the repair goes for now I guess!!!
  8. Thanks for the reply. If they can't skim it, what can they do to try to fix it, assuming they won't replace with a new engine which I guess isn't on the cards right now.
  9. Oh right, didn't understand that; what I read was in the early days people used to skim the heads but that left trouble down the line so ended up doing a full replace of the engine. Didn't know they couldn't be skimmed?
  10. Hi all, New to the club, 1st time poster! I have an 06 is220d which has been diagnosed with needing the Head Gasket replaced. Just wondering is this common in this car? Thanks
