  1. OK, panic over - I think! Couldn't sleep last night and as I looked at the clock for the umpteenth time, at 3.30am I had a lightbulb moment - literally. I don't know why it should happen or the mechanism by which it is happening but it suddenly struck me that it's about a week ago since I swapped out my incandescent reversing lights for LEDs. I'm going to put the incandescent bulbs back in and see if the problem goes away, but hopefully it's nothing more sinister than the LEDs, although why they should have that effect on the DAB I have no idea.
  2. There's a sticky post with a pdf file listing the 3RX trim levels here:
  3. Hello and welcome to the club Alex. I'm sure you'll be very happy with your new beast but we like to see photos so get some up on here when you can I don't have air suspension so I can't answer that one but as for tweaking various settings, you may want to invest about twenty quid in a miniVCI cable from eBay if you have a laptop to use it with. We can't condone the use of pirated software but almost every cable on eBay will also come with a copy of Techstream, which is the diagnostic software that Toyota/Lexus use in their workshops. I suppose it's up to your own conscience whether you use that or go down the proper route of legitimately downloading Techstream free of charge from Toyota/Lexus and then buying time to use it, but either way, you'll need that miniVCI cable to enable the car to talk to the laptop and vice versa. Happy motoring - and don't forget the photos.
  4. This has been happening for a few days but I've never really paid much attention as to exactly when, just thinking that I must be in a bad signal area. However, just now I became aware of the correlation between loss of signal and selection of reverse gear. I'm assuming that it should be covered under warranty but as it's a two-hour drive from here to Lexus Teeside, if it's anything trivial I'll sort it myself, so can anyone shed any light on it? dabradio.mp4
  5. So, we've had our late 2013 (November, so a 63-plate) RX450h Advance for about four and a half months now and whilst I absolutely love the car, I'm getting rather deflated by reading of other's fuel figures and how their cars seem to operate compared to mine. This is the first hybrid I've ever owned or even driven so I'm acutely aware that I could be doing something wrong, but examples include: Even if the battery icon is showing 7/8 bars, by the time the car has moved its own length on my driveway, the ICE fires up. I thought the ICE only fires up when needed to keep the battery charge level from getting too low? At 7 out of 8 bars I would have thought that the car would have set off and driven on battery alone, at least to the top of our cul-de-sac and not just about 15 or 16 feet - the rear wheels are still on the driveway and not even on the road before the ICE bursts into life. Same at traffic lights or junctions - I only have to breathe on the accelerator pedal and the ICE fires up. If I manually select EV mode I hardly have to get the wheels rolling before I get a message saying that EV mode has been deactivated due to excessive acceleration! Excessive acceleration?? I've hardly even touched the accelerator pedal! On the very rare occasions that I've actually managed to get it to run in EV mode, it just will not go any faster than about 23mph (it certainly does not reach 25mph) before I get the message that EV mode has been deactivated due to excessive speed - and yet, just this very night, I've seen a posting from @Mr Vlad who has a 62-plate RX450h, that said "I've read somewhere on here somebody struggling to get more than 23 mph in EV mode. I regularly get over 40 and how it pulls in EV mode compared to my previous IS300H is gobsmacking" Another quote from @Mr Vlad in the same posting was "Come up to Leeds but this time all the way in sport mode. Yes I broke all speed limits lol and still returned over 32mpg" No matter how I try, I can't even reach 32mpg and that's driving it like it's got Faberge eggs on the back seat! So is there something wrong with my car or have I just not got the hang of driving it?
  6. If you mean a miniVCI cable then you must be trying to use it with Techstream. If it doesn't want to talk to the car then it's most likely a driver issue between VCI cable and laptop rather than anything else because Techstream should work for most, if not all models of car.
  7. Yep. I've driven nothing but automatics for the last 30 years so I always carry a set of jump leads, which is great unless there's no other cars around to get the jump from, which is why I bought this little gadget. And as a bonus, you can use it for other things besides just the car.
  8. I've never had dealings personally with Paul but he's very well regarded by all his customers who use the sister forum to this one on Facebook. Apparently very knowledgeable, very genuine and fair and reasonable pricing. If no one else comes forward to help you, I'm sure you'll be happy with Paul.
  9. I don't know for sure but I'd say probably not very long. I bought one of these for such occasions and although I've never had to use it yet, all the reviews and recommendations say that it'll be there for me when I need it.
  10. Good that you're drinking beer, sad about the car. Drink more beer!
  11. Is the guarantee not transferable to you? And as we know, telling you what treatment had been applied does not constitute a breach of GDPR, only if they told you the name and address of the person who had it done.
  12. It's well known and documented that dashcams can affect DAB reception, but if it was happening before the camera installation then as you say, it can't all be down to that. Ours has been perfect since we bought the car in February but has started with flaky reception and cutting out about a week ago now. FM is far superior to DAB (given DAB's low bitrates in use) so I'd be happy to stay with FM but my favourite stations (Planet Rock, Absolute Classic Rock) are DAB only, so I'm well annoyed and would loke to know where to start looking to fix the problem, so I'll be watching this topic with interest.
  13. No idea then my friend, very strange. I assume it's a halogen bulb whatever it's for, so if you do change to LED DRLs then they would still have to go off when the 'normal' lights come on as outlined here
  14. So is it not just a sidelight then? First click of the switch puts on side, tail and number plate lights, second click puts on low beam headlamps in addition to side and tail and number plates?
  15. Sorry, I don't know the answer but even if it's possible, you can't have the DRLs "constantly on". They must either dim or go off completely when you turn on your lights, so as to avoid dazzling other drivers at night, so you'll need to use a couple of relays to achieve this. If you can't use the area you've highlighted, maybe it would be possible to use switchback LEDs in place of the turn signal indicators? I can't say for sure because I don't know the layout of the lights in the cluster but it may be an option. I did it on my old RX300 and they worked well in that configuration, details below (but please don't be put off by the state of the wiring. It's an easy job that doesn't take long and looks much better in its finished state ):
  16. So, as a 2015 car is that a series 3 or 4 because if it's a series 4 there are some backward steps there, which is surprising. Mine is a late 2013 (first registered in November '13) and compares thus: 1. Auto locking is available 2. Not got ML but do agree about disappointing DAB not showing artist and track info. 4. Auto wiper is simple - just one push down on stalk and I usually leave it there in that position. 8 & 9. My EV light only comes on when I press the EV button, not when the car is actually running on battery or in EV mode 'of it's own accord' so to speak, but only when I manually select EV mode myself. And yes, very difficult to sustain EV mode. If I have the audacity to breathe on the accelerator pedal while it's running on battery then the ICE fires up and I get told off for using 'excessive acceleration'. Also never got it to hold in EV above 23mph. Your point 11 would suggest that cruise control in your previous car might not have been working properly if it didn't do that. Every car with cruise I've had since my Rover 800 Sterling has held the set speed on the flat, going uphill or going downhill, which is what it's supposed to do.
  17. Yep, front seat. If I'm driving I'm fine but if I'm a passenger, I absolutely must have a clear view out of the front window or I puke for England, so front seat is a must.
  18. Just to give others a choice or an alternative if the ones Richard linked to are out of stock, he went for the Ring festoon bulbs from ABD but these are the ones I got from Auto Lighting. I'm not saying these are better/worse/longer-lived or anything, just giving an alternative.
  19. No, no, my fault mate. I clicked on the link to see which bulbs you'd got, saw the word "halogen" and dived in with both feet By the way, sometime recently you asked if the RX450h had the shrouds on the reversing lights like the 300/400h and I said that I didn't think so. I also thought that they were already LEDs, but on inspection I found out that they are wedge-type halogens with no shrouds, so yesterday I swapped them for the trusty LEDs and again, they've made a big difference. Even as halogens, the reversing lights on the 450h were a gazillion times better than the 300/400h, but as LEDs they are a whole lot better again.
  20. One thing I've just noticed Richard - you've gone for halogen bulbs with "xenon effect". Were your bulbs not xenon originally anyway? My 2005 RX300 had OEM xenons so I'd be very surprised if yours didn't. You've also got the headlight washers which is usually a sign of xenons (and an MOT fail if they don't work). Did your original lights do a little 'dance' when switched on and have a bluish tinge for a second or two as they warmed up? If so, they were indeed xenons.
  21. If it's done 9 years it may be worth going with the same brand again. Alternatively, Yuasa, Bosch, Varta etc.
