  1. Thank you oldjoe - the unit remains in the garage for now
  2. A few years ago I was looking for an expansion tank for a GS430 as the one on my vehicle at the time was leaking. I seemed to remember reading that whilst the US version fitted, with only a push fit cap rather than a full twist on cap as found on the UK version it was not a suitable swop out. I now have the same issue with my SC430 and can source a US one cheaper than from Lexus 14 miles down the road. Does anyone know whether I can or should? Thanks for any help
  3. Hi Boersma there’s no picture just wondered whether anyone has any hints and tips thanks
  4. Noticed that the lens on the 3rd brake light located on the boot is a little dirty. Can anyone recommend how I can remove this to give it a clean? Thank you
  5. Just reading about the introduction of a new ‘greener’ petrol from September this year. The Daily Telegraph, other papers are available, states that 95% of cars on the road will be compatible to the new E10 however, 700,000 vehicles manufactured before year 2000 will need to use the soon to be more expensive, E5. I’m sitting here thinking isn’t it all about the engine and when that was developed rather than the year the car was manufactured?? I wonder also whether my 2001 SC430 will continue to enjoy running with the pack, ‘fuel wise’ , after September or whether we’ll all be moved into our own 5% club running on the old ‘dirty’ E5 petrol. Reminds me of the Unleaded/Leaded switch which feels oh so many years ago now. Seriously, were there any significant engine modifications during the life of the UZZ engine which may impact on E5 or E10 question I wonder. How soon do you think those using E5 fuel will be taxed more for harming the environment.
  6. Thank you didn’t appreciate that the centre caps can refurbished, I’ll pop back and enquire
  7. Please allow myself the benefit of using this old thread but it’s perfect to help illustrate my questions to the community. Having just had the wheels on my 2001 refurbished, the centre caps are now letting the side down. In places the top coat is coming off revealing a very shiny surface below. Referring to the first picture the same issue can be seen at approximately 11 o’clock. Does anyone know whether the centre caps can be stripped to reveal this shinier surface in full? Secondly seeking to remove the centre cap from the wheel, initially I tried a screwdriver followed by electric drill on various settings up to full torque to try remove the first of the 10 bolts but with no success. Am I correct in thinking these need to be unscrewed to remove the cap? I appreciate I could ask the firm that refurbished the wheels but thought I’d check here first. Thank you
  8. Just been quoted £2,100 for complete new exhaust by Lexus Leicester. Noooooooo Oh and £185 to replace faulty wrong washer on oil sump plug. Presumably this includes oil as well
  9. It's now on my drive. Forgot how intoxicating the rumble if the V8 is. Drove it 100 odd miles on Friday morning back to Leicestershire. Was it an essential journey, hell yes😁 . Issues well the same as the past two Lexus, the radiator expansion tank is leaking where top and bottom halves are joined together. Spent ages trying to find one previously, as refuse to pay £300 + for new one. However despite this, cars never ran hot. Power aerial and drivers side folding wing mirror not working and sat nav disc needs updating as it's showing me living in a field.
  10. Off to check on a 2001 tomorrow. Previously owned 2nd gen GS430 Sport as well as an RX300 but moved to the dark side of the MB and VW world. Well hopefully very soon I’ll be back in the land of Lexus. On a related topic I genuinely think that this owners club is the best of the lot, and believe you me I’ve known a few.
  11. Welcome - fine looking example of the LS
  12. After 16 months of ownership I finally got to switch the 'old girl' into snow mode last week. Tee hee, all it seemed to do was severely narrow the power band on the throttle so any more pressure on the accelerator than 'crawling speed' meant that the there was no response at all. Mind you it was that pathetic on snow and ice that arguably crawling speed was unnervingly fast! Can anyone advise whether beyond power band reduction, snow mode has any other benefit when driving on the slippy stuff?
  13. I've been searching the forum for a while for advice on a diagnostics reader for a 2003 GS430 Sport, as the engine management light came on a couple of weeks ago and my local service garage was unable to diagnose the fault. I wasn't able to find anything concrete in terms of what would definitely do the job so I turned to my old mate Amazon for advice. Having read a number of reviews I ordered the following INTEY OBDII Car Vehicle Fault Code Reader Auto Diagnostic Scan Tool, Read and Clear Error Codes for 2000 or later US, European and Asian OBD2 Protocol arrived yesterday and dodging the rain today, i'm delighted to say it works perfectly, just need to check out the 02 sensor circuit back 2 sensor 1. So if you're after a diagnostic sensor for an early ish GS 430 would definitely recommend this scanner.
