  1. I still think the immobilizer is the root cause of this and that the code from the key and the car has somehow got out of synch. Googling this comes up with various means of re synching and if I were you I would keep trying them, even if the suggested methods were for different cars. As an example. So, what do you do if your three-year-old child DOES desynchronize your transmitter by pushing the button on it 300 times, so that the receiver no longer recognizes it? Most cars give you a way to resynchronize. Here is a typical procedure: Turn the ignition key on and off eight times in less than 10 seconds. This tells the security system in the car to switch over to programming mode. Press a button on all of the transmitters you want the car to recognize. Most cars allow at least four transmitters. Switch the ignition off.
  2. It always annoys me when someone filming a video cannot keep the camera still instead of moving around continuously. It makes the video unwatchable. I do wonder if the person doing the filming ever looks at and reviews their own video handywork.
  3. This reminds me of an old episode of Wheeler Dealers and the Porsche Boxster S with the dodgy auto gearbox that could have cost £5000 for a new one 8 years ago. New oil and filter sorted it. Watch from 13 minutes in.
  4. Sometimes had an annoying rattle from the passenger door area that obviously, only happened when driving. After a while, came to realise that after my wife had been a passenger, she didn't make sure that the seat belt buckle had returned to its proper resting position i.e. laying flat and not twisted which if it was twisted would rattle against the door pillar. A simple bit of wife education restored the usual comparative silence!
  5. Question, come insurance time, "has the car been modified?" I dread to think what the revised insurance premium mighty be.
  6. Mine has a black cover on it, which against the black trim panel means it's not so obvious.
  7. "level of competency" I would argue that competency at a Lexus dealer is not as guaranteed as some people would think. Not long after I bought my IS250 as an approved used car from Newcastle Lexus, my wife and I took it on a road trip down to Austria and down there the car started to rumble with the classic signs of a failing front wheel bearing. Turn into a left bend, putting weight on the right wheel etc etc. Got back to the UK and took it to Leeds Lexus and the "technician" came out for a road test and confirmed that he could hear the rumble but in his opinion it was tyre wear. On return to the premises, he said he would put it on the ramp in the workshop and have a look. Not long after, the car was proclaimed OK and indeed, the noise was due to tyre wear. Now I have been repairing vehicles for many years but thought that these guys are professionals so they must be right. Fast forward and two new front tyres fitted and guess what, still the same rumble. Took it back and a different technician had a look and proclaimed, yes, it was a failing wheel bearing. Got it fitted under warranty and afterwards thought I should have asked for some sort of recompense for the two less than half worn tyres I had junked because an "expert" gave the wrong diagnosis. Lesson learnt but I do understand that some people, maybe most, do not have the skills to do work on their cars themselves, but I do wince at the eye watering bills that Lexus dealers hand out for simple services and repairs and that people accept while handing their money over so easily.
  8. Linas, have a look at this video. Different model but similar problem. A good "real world" video.
  9. No, I haven't bought one but the key would come with the electronics and you would have to program it to your car.
  10. I was looking for a third key just out of curiosity and came across this which will be suitable for my IS250 as the numbers match but don't know about yours. Apparently, quite east to program a new key with techstream although I haven't tried. I must say, I have had a VW key from Aliexpress in the past and it worked a treat. Just goes to show what outrageous prices , Lexus charge. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005003165123730.html?spm=a2g0o.cart.0.0.468b3c002i9D84&mp=1
  11. Most people are lazy, so park as far away from wherever the doors are to your chosen emporium and look upon the longish walk as exercise. This often works, but then there is the old weird thing that regardless of the lots of empty spaces available, someone still parks next to you.
  12. Recently, the blower motor on my IS250 started to make a horrible rumbling sound which was more prominent at higher settings but gradually got worse. A new motor from Lexus is pushing £500 and one from a breaker about £70 to £100. Of course a used one might end up the same depending on mileage. A quick look on Youtube found the following video on removing and dismantling the fan. I took his advice and bought a couple of small ball bearings and fitted them but they didn't work and were very noisey. I removed the 2 bronze bushes and measured them and the shaft from the fan. The shaft was approx 8mm and the bushes had an inside diameter slightly bigger but had worn badly causing the fan to rock. The outside diameter of the bushed was 14mm and about 14.5mm long. A search resulted in finding a supplier of new oilite self lubricating bushes but imperial. 5/16 x 9/16 x 3/4 which are very close. So having bought two of these and some new Starlock washers, I basically started an 8mm drill through the center to slightly enlarge the hole and kept trying them for a fit over the shaft until it was a smooth fit. Next I had to reduce the outside diameter a fraction so I could press them into the plastic carrier in the coil windings. Assembled everything with a new Starlock washer and the fan is now whisper quiet. All done for just over £10. One other thing is that the guy in the video describes the circular disc under the locking washer as a thrust washer. It is actually magnetic and I think has a part to play in the electronics so don't break it. I also took out the top washer of three at the bottom of the shaft and put a copper washer so the flanged bush would bear and run on that. Taking the fan out and pulling apart can be done in minutes. Links to video and suppliers below. The whole process is much easier than reading the above would have you believe. https://www.hendersonbearings.co.uk/catalog/product/view/id/74546 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/163259494535
  13. Had another thought. Have you tried to unlock one of the doors using the key blade to see if the key you have actually belongs to your car?
  14. I'm not sure that there is a master key. I have 2 keys and there is nothing to distinguish between the two. They are identical.
  15. Ahmed, i,ve just been looking through you blog and there is an entry where you write about putting a bluetooth module into the 3.5mm aux jack in the armrest to play music from your phone. Now I have one that does this but I noticed that at the end you also seemed to be able to play video from your phone and get it onto the lexus screen. Is this so and if yes, how did you do it? Does it need a certain type of bluetooth receiver?
  16. A quick Google and this video popped up. Not sure if or how it is supposed to work but a lot of comments say it worked for them.
  17. Well, some one has to pay for the big showroom and free coffee and biscuits, but it certainly wouldn't be me! In my opinion, to put it kindly, you have been done. I'd bet you strong money, the rest of the brake pipes apart from that exposed section, were probably perfect.
  18. The car at initial cold start has high rpm, not sure what but would guess about 1500 then quickly dropping back. I come to a stop and leave it in drive with foot on brake pedal or if on a slope, no brake just let the car hold itself. About 74000 miles, not cleaned the MAF sensor and I change the oil at usually about 7 to 8 thousand miles. No drive line snatch and no lurch when selecting drive.
  19. Noticed a few days ago that if I'm in drive and stopped at traffic lights for example, I notice a slight vibration through the car which goes away if I snick it into neutral. Experimented parked on my driveway and noticed that idling in neutral, engine warm, that the revs are quite steady at about 700 but as soon as I put it into drive then the revs drop a couple of hundred or so and the slight vibration starts. Is this a sign of impending doom in the transmission and something to worry about? I should add that the car drives quite normally with respect to gear changes etc.
